Sunset Mosaic
« on: June 26, 2008, 02:58:22 pm »

I've got a lot of free dwarf time on my hands, waiting for the DM to train my caged giant bat, so I'm going to make a mosaic outside the fort. What I'm aiming to do is make it a sunset over the ocean, make all the comments you want about that I'm anticipating quite a few, since I've got more than enough adamantine to do the water easy(Teal is the closest to blue that I know of, open to suggestions though.) I've got Cinnabar, Hematite, Iron, Adamantine, Felsite, Alunite(Which fits well with the felsite in coloration IMO), and a metric shitload of wood. So, I'm going to need some gypsum, none on my map AFAIK so I'll import that. But, I need something for a sort of orange color, I may end up importing some rutile too for purple, any idea on stones for orange?

Comments? Suggestions? I've got 45 dwarves, and nothing better to do with my time or their time, so I'll probably end up doing more mosaics too, so suggestions for other mosaics is appreciated.

You're using adamantine? I can't decide if that's awesome or just crazy.  Actually I can't believe you don't have any microcline.  I have never had a map without microcline.

Well, I don't really need it for anything else. Sieges are turned off, so no point for weapons. I have microline, buts its near the demon pits(I saw it with reveal and save scummed) so thats a ways off.

It would be cool if you used real water for the water. If you happen to have any on your map...

That actually does work pretty well, messed up the placement but so what? Thanks! I'll try that.

Alternatively, import some cobalt.  You're almost bound to have it, just check with the dwarven traders.  It's nice to have a little teal here and there to add a little variation, but the whole thing?  I think that's a bit much...

You can always mod some stone to be orange instead of whatever. But will you have to start a new fort?

I might, I don't want to need to make a new fort though, this one has come so far for just three years... Maybe something else instead for a mosaic? Suggestions?

On a similar note, I just realized my entranceway looks like a skull.

You can try staggering deep red with bright yellow tiles, although that might just look like staggered deep red and bright yellow.  Orange is not a currently supported color, so modding a stone to have that is out of the question.

And, you could always just make an image of three sweet pods...

No orange, sadly.

Changing stones to some other color wouldn't require a world re-gen, though.

Why not a perfectly designed image of squire? They're so much better! Bonus points for a masterful rendition of the Black Square.

What do sweet pods even look like?

Like the suggestion for the square, gave me a chuckle.

I was thinking of a more detailed rendition, rather than just the ASCII...  Three red peapods each with three "peas" inside them, all done in bright red with dark red for shadowing.
