Nobles with remarkably reasonable demands.
« on: August 10, 2007, 08:13:00 pm »

Like everyone, nobles and their mandates can be rather trying.

I'm on my seventh year of "Baldcrystals" and I have to say, my nobles are great. I have a notoriously finicky Broker who is constantly demanding that I take time out of my busy fortress managing schedule to make BARRELS. Mr. Trade Minister would really enjoy life if I made more BINS. The Guildmaster and Mayor really like Obsidian (which has always been a really great mandate, queue up a few short swords and BAM) and Catapult Parts (works great, I'm currently training up some Seige Engineers anyway).

So far I've been really lucky, no crazy rare gem demands. No debilitating export restrictions. Has anyone else had Nobles with really reasonable demands?

Yeh, Cannot export any gauntlets...which was fine by me since I never exported them anyway.

ALL my (surviving) nobles have reasonable demands. I kill 'em till I get one with simple tastes. ^^

"You may not export backpacks!"

"...Okay.  Do we even have any backpacks in our fortress?"

My nobles make perfect demands.  None that I have to pay attention to.

I have the Sheriff, Manager, Mason's Guild, Order of the Spear, Order of the Sword, House Fer, and House Ber.  The occasional demands they make are perfectly ignorable without any punishment.  Only mandates cause punishments and none of them make a mandate in this configuration.

I had one noble that mandated earrings about 5 times in a year.

Given that I was churning out bone crafts nonstop in order to get rid of fish bones and every third item it seemed was an earring, this was not a problem.

I hate it when they want Scepters or Earrings or some other non-immediately gratifiable craft.

Other than super rare gem types the only thing that really bugs me is large gem mandates. Having a jeweler on Cut green glass gems/R usually covers it but not always, especially if they mandate for 2 or 3.

My countess or someone loves Coins. Any coins, so it coincides well with my bookkeeper's constant demands for them.

Also got an amulet lover, which is simple, an obsidian lover which is also simple, a helm lover which is fine since im making steel helms. Just lots of simple easy things.

One of them likes rock crystal, which is only used for crystal glass for me, so he gets ignored. I have a few crappy jewelers which he randomly hauls off sometimes, but its fine. I don't like to process my nobles, I like to have some difficulty and nuances in my forts.

I have a governor that loves... thongs. And he demands that i make 5 of them each year. And then the broker banned the export of them. I have an entire barrel with them and i can't use them for anything.

Before I even got my metal production up, I was banned from exporting any silver. Not a problem. Then, about an hour of real time before getting my smith, the ban gets lifted.

My bookkeeper is extremely reasonable. I got him after making 20+ each of various coins from copper to platinum. All he ever mandates is one stack of copper coins, and that only happens three or four times a year.

Then there's one of my representatives. It's either Ber or Fer, as those are the only two I have. He happens to love dark crowns. His room is covered with them.

Then there's the Broker who loves green gems. I was making a window for his room to increase its value, so I queue up three green gems for cutting. I can't recall what kind. I go to make the window and find that I have only two now. Turns out the noble stuck it in his room...
