Probably, yeah. If I remember correctly, the default fullscreen resolution in the init.txt is a resolution that the game will accept. Up it to 1280x960 and it should work.

Some tilesets don't support fullscreen...

Ok, so i did as you said. (i'm using Dystopian rhetoric's btw) but when i load it up, the only proper picture is the miner model. the other dwarves look like msn models, and the animals are still acsii characters. has anyone encountered this?

Now this, this is odd. You seem to somehow be using the default tileset that Toady included. Are you sure the new graphics_example.txt and dwarves.bmp files have overwritten the old ones?

Umm... you did extract the files from the .rar right?

that might not be enough, depending on how you extracted the files.  this is problaby the instruction page you read, but you can get a deeper uderstanding of whats going on by looking at the parts regarding "other tilesets may need..." rather than just the one-liner instructions that go with the DR set.
http://www.dwarffortresswiki.net/index.php/Object_Tileset_Installation

you also need to edit or replace the \raw\graphics\example_text.txt file to tell the game to use the images.

admitedly, extracting the .rar into the \raw directory should overwrite all those files... but if you dont extract all the subdirectories and overwrite, it might not work perfectly.

Also, what self-righteous zealot wrote that wiki article with all the unix style slashes, for a game that is only published under 'doze?  seriously.

I got them! thanks for your help!
while youre here, i also tried to add the winterwing font, with the dark blue river and gray mountain, but that didnt work. i put it in the art folder, then changed the names for all font and fullfont to its file name. its a bmp. is there anything i missed?
(and thanks again for the patience. i must seem practically illiterate)

Heh, I wrote it, but quickly and not very helpfully. I didn't notice I'd put the slashes backwards.

I've heard a lot of people say Winterwing's font simply doesn't work. Try one of the others. Alternatively: are you certain that it's a 24 bit .bmp? You can save it as one in paint.

i hope people realize that my silly comments are intended to be just that, and not actually snarky pissing on other peoples hard work.  not only is it an incredibly instructive article, but even the WORST wiki articles are infinitly better than mine.  since i never contributed anything.  at all.

also, please dont take this clarification as any sort of retraction of my mockery  :D
