My great project will prolly be to make a grand tower :D.

Hopefully a good looking one. I've seen some horrible and impractical constructions out there! Use it to store something.

Not that the game will be in my hands by then... So you can do whatever you like, heh.

I might make a nice arch and arrow mosaic for the entrance.

Probably freezing/terrifying. Be afraid... Be very afraid...

But seriously folks... Anyone can make a dozen stone-fall traps over the only entrance to the fortress. Does that really make for a satisfying game experience? I don't think so...

That is why we're going to focus on military, traps that aren't pre-built (also known as the weapon, cage, stone-fall and other traps) such as magma and water related chamber traps, moats and bridges, good old fashioned fortress design, siege weapons, chained animals and the like.

I was only talking about the pre-built traps particularly any trap which can be massed at an entrance to unskillfully repel invaders in an unspectacular fashion. I do not consider cages which release animals as traps, nor are retractable bridges, nor are levers which lock doors and so on and so forth.

Fair enough, by all means, fortress design is a lot more satisfying means of destruction than basic traps/locked doors, although personally I don't favour a large military (I find my triggered magma waterfalls and self-regulating flood chambers far more enjoyable).

Good stuff on the terrifying/freezing part, gotta love it.

Oh and for the record, I am in the GMT timezone, and my msn is wirewraith@hotmail.com if anyone wants to chat.

I hope someone gets the military started before I get there.
As I said before, I'm really an architect, not a general.
My most successful battle left me with just over half my fortress lying in the graveyard.

Never been in a bloodline game.  If it survives eight player's I'll happily join in.  I love the idea of a fortress played straight, with no exploitation of boneheaded AI and overpowered effortless traps.  Just think, a fortress with a genuine use for it's military and an elderly nobility.

Where is it going to be anyway?

Oh, I'm in GMT-6:00, American Central Time.

still no writing about the actual fortress.

please include the pre-embark location screen, the ENTIRE MAP OF THE FORTRESS in the beginning, and significant threats.

Will do. Updated first post with new members and a new MILITARY rule (on crossbow-dwarves). I will certainly provide lots of screen-shots of all the embark stages as well as a small overview of the entire map with circled and annotated features of interest.

I probably won't be able to do my update until the weekend (when I will do it all at once). I didn't expect to find so much interest, so fast to be honest. Although with a bit of luck I might have it done before then. I will message the next person in the bloodline as soon as the whole update is done. I want the first one to be a good one so I'm taking my time. Sorry for the delay, work is also keeping me on my toes and I'm always going to put seeing my friends or girlfriend over playing Dwarf Fortress. But I will get the update done ASAP, I won't let this bloodline fade off and die. Patience my friends, patience.
