Dwarf Fortress 0.21.93.19b Released
« on: August 10, 2006, 07:55:00 pm »

Next Version is up.

Change list

Let me know if I did something dumb, like forget the exe file or something.  The way key bindings are stored and used is different, so you might find a whole new list of problems there.

You can use your old "data/save" folders, but try not to just copy over the new folder on the old one.  There are often small changes and so on that make that bad news.  So extract this into a new folder, then move over "data/save" and whatever else you like.

*sigh*

I don't suppose there's a way to fix a file in which one dwarf has seemingly already gotten himself marked as an enemy to the rest of the fortress due to a tantrum before this patch? He seems to be either killing everyone he meets (he's a wrestler) or else someone else is and the bug is still there.

It really is a cascading nightmare of an error.  There's probably some kind of check I could figure out and test, but the bad fortresses will be gone by then, unless people want to leave them on their disks for a bit.

got it rared up and stowed away for if you want to take a look.

Too bad, was a really nice fortress. Up to 35 dwarves and not yet any annoying nobles. Only found tin to dig out though.

Actually, if you are a patient person and want to send the .sav file and corresponding region folder from your "data/save" folder, I can take a look at it (toadyone@bay12games.com), assuming it doesn't bounce off my gmail (where my address forwards).  It's good to have some old version saves for compat purposes, and in addition, I get to judge the inner workings of your mind from your fortress layout.

Ah, it's probably handling them a little different now.  Press ESC and select Key Bindings (should be able to move up and down here using 2/8).

Go to "Move secondary selector up" and change that binding to the key you want.  Same with "Move secondary selector down".  Export to txt after that to save them.

It's probably the case that the -_ =+ keys don't work any more with the new settings, and that only the ten-key accountant type +- will work.

I'm not sure how to sort this out -- multiple keys bound to one action?  Something like that.

Save received, and it loads.  I'll tinker with it in a bit.

Yeah "Minus" is the virtual key code for the other button.  I think the one on the number pad is called "subtract".  If you want, you can go into data/init/interface.txt and mess with the display strings to get it to print "-" for your "Minus".  I think you can add the line:

[DISPLAY_STRING:MINUS:-]

before your next run to get it to look right.

Also: In the new release, it seems the build command takes you directly to "bed".  You can press space once after that to go to the main build menu.  I'll have this handled soon.

Is it me, or did it used to contextualy change from "mine" to "chop down trees" in the 'd' screen depending on which area was centered while pressing it?  No longer the case (unless, of course, it wasn't the case to begin with).

it used to be the case, but now it's stuck on defaulting to mine all the time. Another insect to squash, me thinks.

I just posted another version.  Should fix some of these new interface probs (like this mine/chop or build menu always showing a bed), as well as having a patch for civil war saves.  If the save is a dwarf game for 19a, it'll get rid of thoughts, tantrums and reset the dwarves to civilian status.

Anyway, let me know if that works, and if there are any more of these little interface bugs lying around.

I guess this answers that earlier question about how many releases there will be...

As usually, extract in a new folder, then copy over the data/save as well as your init folders if you changed the bindings around.

Ok, so now that you have fixed the civilwar bug what does happen when a dwarf does throw a tantrum and go insane? does eveyone kill just him? knock him unconsious? what?

If you have a dwarf that was unhappy enough to throw several tantrums and eventually go berserk, it will be like a civil war with an Army of One, like that Dolph Lundgren movie.  The berserk dwarf will attempt to kill the fort, the fort will respond, with hopefully only minor ramifications.

If the dwarf is just starting fist fights, that's all that happens.  They fight, and the fist fight actually makes the tantrum dwarf a little happier, and the attacked dwarf gets a little angry.  It's like balancing the level of misery out.
