George Carlin 1937-2008

Surprisingly, I don't have an archival knowledge of his quips on death.

Except of course, "They won't say I died.  No one ever dies anymore.  They'll say I passed away.  Or that I expired, like old cheese."

And now to move his name to the parade of dead people in the Recycle Bin.

I never thought he was funny.

As you journey to the center of the world, feel free to read the death announcements of those dwarves that suffer your neglect.

One billion b-balls dribbling simultaneously throughout the galaxy. One trillion b-balls being slam dunked through a hoop throughout the cosmos. I can feel every single b-ball that has ever existed at my fingertips, I can feel their collective knowledge channeling through my veins. Every jumpshot, every rebound and three-pointer, every layup, dunk and free throw.

I like that one. He was a great comedian.

Good grief.  Didn't you people learn to speak well of the dead or not at all?

Oh, that Hitler. What a nice guy he was.

Did you just compare George Carlin to Hitler?

Whatever. Great guy, great comedian, even if you didn't like him your favorite comic did.

If you really think I was comparing George Carlin to Hitler, and not using an obviously exaggerated comparison to illustrate a point about an old superstition.. um. Well, I guess in that case further explanation is lost on you.

Now now children, have a little respect for the dead.  No fighting over the coffin.

Well, I suppose he was getting on in years...  He looked like he was more fit than most people half his age, but death is inevitable.

Cheers mate, you were radically different.  This includes the fact that you were both a comedian and funny.

Godwin's law.

I have no desire to bicker in this thread, PM me if you must.

I don't think I've ever seen any of Carlin's material, but I've read about him in studying comedy.  I know how sad it is can be when a favourite comic passes- in the last few years we've lost Spike Milligan, Ronnie Barker and Humphrey Lyttleton.

In my occasional reading of BBC's "Have Your Say" comments, I've found that the only recently deceased person that received absolutely no negative (or even neutral) comments was James Doohan (Scotty).  Everybody else, no matter who they were, had at least one naysayer.  This might have changed, but at this point I consider it a well-tested Law.

For some reason the first Carlin statement that pops into my head is "I'm going to shove this hot poker up my ass and chop my dick off", which was on HBO or something when I was young.  I remember enjoying the show then, and some of his other stuff.  I haven't seen anything recent (or any of his 60s/70s work).
