Crash in Adventurer, quests screen.
« on: August 10, 2006, 07:23:00 pm »

I get a crash when adventuring, when trying to choose 'locations' in the quest screen. Got it three times in a row.

Hrm...  had you had any aborted fortress games?  Anything else unusual.  I'll note it down in any case.

Yes, i had abandoned fortresses during my gaming. I also uses ctrl-alt-del to close DF on a few occasions.

I put in a little check in the next one that should hopefully prevent some of the crashes on this screen that come from minor corruptions to the world file.  It's always better when it writes a little note in the errorlog rather than exploding.

In general, when you're forced to break out of the game with ctrl-alt-del by something or other I did, the world files become exposed to corruption.  The game is often writing to the unit files, but until it gets a chance to export the world at the end, there are some inconsistencies.  I'm gonna try to figure out how to make it more resilient, but it's hard, since there's a lot to handle, and there can't be huge lags all the time due to file I/O.

How about having the game keep backup of the files? It would make backup everytime it's started and it would delete that backup everytime it's properly closed down.
ADOM had such a thing, i think.

This sounds like a reasonable idea.
