Recommended Hex Editor?
« on: June 22, 2008, 09:45:47 am »

Anyone have a good, preferably free, hex editor that they would recommend?

I'd like to take a stab at some fairly basic memory hacking/fooling around with, but I don't know a good editor.

Speaking of which, it would probably be good if this editor allowed me to say "only show me RAM used by DwarFort.exe" so that I don't blow up my computer.

I'd actually recommend Hex Workshop, but if you really want a free editor, I think xvi32 would be a good choice.

Ah, ok.

I'd seen the freeware site before, but hex workshop looks nice as well.

Thanks for the suggestion(s).

What you want is a debugger, as hex editors are file editors. OllyDbg is free and well known. IDA PRO 4.9 is also downloadable and will help you tremendously once you have learn asm.

Not because of the memory requirements, though they would be huge, but because technology wouldn't advance.
10000 years of the same swords and shields sort of tech is goofy.
