The city is being destroyed! But not by me!
« on: June 21, 2008, 11:45:33 am »

So, I decided to make another adventurer, this time, I decided to be a dwarf.

The minute I start at the dwarven capitol, I'm spammed by messages of rat men and batmen and caveswallowmen attacking people!
When I find my way inside, I see a trail of destruction, corpses of dead chasm creatures. Then I see three peasants and a gaurd fighting a GCS. The peasants bit the dust first, but all that time, the gaurd had been smacking it with his steel battleaxe. The Gaurd then went down, and seconds later, the GCS died.
"Sweet!" I said grabbing th guard`s armor and weapons.
Then I examined the attack spam messages. The KING was under attack! Then the outpost liaison!
I the proceded to walk into a web and get torn to pieces by a spider.
Anyone experiance this before?

Quite often.  Sites exist in stasis unless the player is actually present.  And sometimes sites spawn in areas with terrain features, like chasms.  And sites that dig into the ground, like Dwarf Halls or Goblin Towers, can pierce these chasms.  And chasm creatures can spawn in the site.

Then as soon as the player enters, the AI's start finding each other and duking it out.  I've never seen a GCS spawn inside a Hall before though.  Awesome.

 Awesome.

I personally find the goblin tower invasions the best way to attack a site. Imagine swarms of chasm creatures putting a royal beatdown on the goblin population, with only guards, weapon masters and demons surviving the waves of creatures.

Then you come, go through the creatures like a knife through butter, and strike at the goblin leaders.

Although I never tried to save a site before. Nice find!

Yea i've had it happen in my human capitol city. Every time I came in to accept a new quest, at least 5 rhesus macaques and 3 horses would be attacking. The result was a high priest who dodged a monkey's strike, fell through the middle of the temple and drowned, a merchant baroness whose face was kicked in by a horse, and the civ leader spearmaster seemed to run away!? (legends lists him as alive, but he is nowhere to be found and the townsfolk didnt acknowledge him) The rest of the peasants were killed by horses, and fed up guards I guess just left. The town now consists of maybe 1 or 2 peasants, and my retired adventurer waiting at the top of a bloody fortress filled with clothes, blood, and bones, waiting for me to send more adventurers in. Famous horses take up about a page in my legends mode...

Just imagine that scene.

Urist Adventurer walks into the town.
Urist Adventurer sees the temple, with minor blood from a fight, a laughing rhesus macaque, and the body of a priest floating in the temple pond below.
Urist Adventurer sees various drunks fighting rhesus macaques, and losing.
Urist Adventurer sees the Merchant Baroness being eaten by a horse with her face smashed in.
Urist Adventurer sees the civ leader throwing his spear to the ground and running away from the town, screaming.
Urist Adventurer sees the Mayor hiding in the inn which is under siege by named horses.
Urist Adventurer sees the guards running away screaming with various limbs missing or mangled.
Urist Adventurer loots the bodies, sells it all for money at the last alive shopkeeper (who is busy dueling a macaque), and retires in the next town where he becomes legendary for his tales of the siege of the capital by various wildlife.

And my last Adventurer (a female master lasher  ;)) just went to retire in a dreamy little coast town after massacrating an entire gobbo civ (including weaponmasters, high priests and the demon) when suddenly an elephant peeked into the weapon shop, crushed the shopkeeper and went off for some tasty human children...

now say the game doesn´t give you new tasks XD

And of course I forgot the last, most important line:

Urist Adventurer has become a legendary Storyteller!

I never see things like this...

Although I do see chasm conga-lines a lot.

The idea of dwarves being attacked by chasm creatures made me think.  There should be a low chance of a named Balrog megabe--DEEP CROW.

I went to a goblin tower once.  I think I actually crashed due to the sheer amount of guys running around.  I think it breached a cave and a chasm at the same time, or something like that.  I got mauled by a group of about 20 ratmen running around on the surface or something.  No exaggeration.
