I realize that Nethack is not Dwarf Fortress, but this was just too amazing not to show, and relates very strongly to DF.
I had just fought off a small platoon of Gnomes (the colored items are where their equipment dropped), when I got up from the computer to do something. My brother was the first to notice; he called be back to look at the screen and I froze in astonished awe at a scene I hadn't noticed before. It was an omen. Armok does not exist within the Nethack source code, but yet HE IS THERE...
@ is me h is a friendly hobbit % are gnome corpses ) are said gnomes' equipment
"Engraved on your perception is an image of a human knight, a hobbit, dark caverns, gnomes, and a giant elephant. The human knight is talking with the hobbit. The gnomes are dead. The dark caverns, gnomes, human knight, and hobbit are in the shape of a giant elephant.
This is an Armok rendition of your impending doom."
I discovered Nethack very recently. It has made me very anxious to see what the future of DF Adventure Mode holds. So far I've never made it deeper than 9 levels.
For those who don't know about Nethack, almost every level is randomly generated, including this one. So it's insane that such a clear picture would emerge.
Because the game is just so profound and amazing (and shares much with DF's "losing is fun" slogan), I'm considering making a topic about it in the "other games" forum. Anyone who has played the game, please pipe up here. If there are enough, I'll start the topic and provide a link.
