My latest adventurer, a male hammerdwarf, was attacking a dark goblin fortress. Goblins and limbs were sailing through the air, and out of nowhere, an arrow strikes me in the arm and I enter a martial trance. Next thing I know, a flurry of arrows comes at me, and I get spammed with 'you bat the arrow out of the air' messages like I'm some kind of Matrix-dwarf. Is this something related to martial trances? I had heard of fortress mode dwarves dodging bolts during trances, but I never knew this could happen in adventure mode.

If you're supersomethingly agile and very skilled with what you're armed with, you can always do that. Demons and master elves do such stuff on a regular basis. Continuously swatting arrows away would really take a martial trance though.

Cricket balls are made of wood?  I didn't know that.    All I knew was that you can't make weapons or ammunition out of leather.  You could make a tree that calls itself leather, but that would just be silly now wouldn't it?

Or you could make 'em metals...  You could have one "bat" weapon, which could be made out of "cricket" or "baseball".   Same goes for the balls, but I think you'd have to add in just "base" so that you get a "base ball" instead of a "baseball ball".

That would of course require the baseball bat to be called a "ballbat" :) Unless it's made out of baseball, and the balls are just made out of base.

Fun fact, masters of the art of the samurai sword do, in fact, do this.

Just yesterday I saw video of a Japanese sword-master cutting an arrow in half with a katana as it was flying right at his heart, diffusing its energy enough that it didn't wound him.

Mind you this was on an educational program produced by a public television station, so there's no motivation for them to have BS'd it either.

I think one of those fancy new light tanks with aluminium armor wouldn't stand against a good katana. Like, an adamantine katana. :)
