No, it's not a mining question.

My current fortress has a plague of fire snakes, and only one cat. Not a problem, my jeweler can turn his fine, ladylike hands to the art of trapping. And since I've got captive fire snakes, I ought to be extracting liquid fire from them, right?

Only problem is, apparently you can't use metal flasks for this task, only glass. This is very annoying, since this map has no sand.

So, two questions. One: How can I modify the extracting tasks to accept metal flasks? Two: Can I add a patch of sand using Tweak, and if so, how?

There's a tag you could add to various soil layers, if you have any. Makes it alot easier.

I do this by default to at least one soil type on my map just because I find the limitation on sand availability pretty artificial. But then, I usually play without magma so glass is rarely in infinite supply in my fortresses.

Okay, I went in and added the soil-sand tag...I'm still kind of ticked off that I can't use metal flasks though. I mean, it makes a little bit of sense, but it would still be nice if I could. Ah well, time to make use of the melt command, I guess.

Well, think about it this way...   Does Tabasco come in a hip flask or a glass bottle?  Should liquid fire go into a metal flask or a glass vial?

It's a pity that you can't actually use it in cooking...   Mmm, minced liquid fire stew...
