I had a dwarf that went berserk in a jeweler's shop(he failed his mood, because he wanted raw gems when I had none), and at first I locked the door.  Then I got a squad of military dwarves(wrestlers) outside, and unlocked it, and they killed him in the workshop.  I only just noticed now, about 6 months later, that nobody ever cleaned up his mess.  A coffin was assigned to him, but he was never put in it.  There's now a nice pile of dwarf bones, dwarf skull, and clothing in the workshop.  How can I get my dwarves to clean up this morbid mess?  Nothing is forbidden, and the door was actually deconstructed at one point, so there's nothing blocking it.
He DID die on one of the unwalkable tiles in the workshop(I assume he was thrown), might that have done it?

Is it possible that a dwarf needs to stand on an item to pick it up? I've never noticed. Try deconstructing the workshop, with the understanding that if the corpse items are bugged you might not be able to move them and you might be left unable to reconstruct that workshop.

But it's worth a try, right?

Then again you could always just appreciate the extra decoration. For bonus win, throw some kittens around so they land on the high shelves.

The dwarf needs to stay on the same tile as the item he tries to pick up. So just deconstruct the workshop and the issue is gone. I hope you already did it. Because I can't imagine a man who tried to get the reply before doing something while the action takes only a minute to complete =).

I hadn't thought of deconstructing the workshop until after I posted.  Sometimes the obvious doesn't occur to me.
