And is it a small tower? That costy thing? It took about 2 months for me to farm a gold to get this baby.
It looks like this server has very high "drop rate".


Damn, I'm here again..

By the way, if the things are so cheap to get, is there that problem? I mean, castles everywhere? This is a usual thing when the things are too cheap - the values of expensive things are much lower which breaks some fun and also there was a sad thing on one server - there were castles almost on every clearing.

How am I supposed to steal locked down things? There's no command which does anything to them. Im on the Hybrid server.


You steal from players' backpacks or from containers in npc towns.


Is that supposed to mean 'Yes you can steal from locked down things, by using x skill' or 'No you cannot steal locked down things'?

Hey, you know what'd be really cool?  Is if we could get our own server, and then get hordes of specially scripted bots to populate the place.  We should be able to interact with the bots and get them to do various things for us, and we could even set up our own little wars with sufficient numbers of bot troops.


But that's just daydreaming.

Bots? I think big online is much more interesting. At least for me it's much more entertaining to spear and loot a man who will suffer for his loss than a bot which won't lose anything if he dies while I will lose a lot if I fail.

Other than that, it'd be unbalancing if ou give the bots a cast-attack order (they will do it without a fail) or too easy if you make them "lag" a bit. Also the main goal of ultima was originally to be player-versus-player with additional mobs which are made for loot and jobs only.

What's the reason to have stupid laggy bots while you may play with people (and you can "get them to do various things for you, and you could even set up your own little wars with sufficient numbers of player troops".
These words are describing is what the ultima is for, why do you want to replace players with bots? Humans are much more unpredictable, creative and funny. It's the main reason to play online games.

I used to be a sergeant in our chaos guild and I had a couple of nice skirmishers under me, and our squad was quite successful in tournaments, wars and raids. I don't think it could be possible to achieve those results with bots under me.

The server averages about 800 players online. It only has the Felucca facet, so you can find people pretty much everywhere...

You can buy gold and various extras from the donation shop. I know some people will scream bloody murder at this... but it's not THAT bad. The server needs donations or it'd go down, and UO isn't really about who has the most gold anyway (You could probably farm gold at the rate of $2.50 an hour if you tried which is about 100k, easy enough to do with a tamer),

All of the housing places on the shard have been taken, but if you look around you should be able to place some 7x7's... decaying houses make great fun too. The server also has frequent events, like four-team CTF that gives out trophies and gold. There's a complete duelling system ladder as well, and a poker system.

Hybrid is probably the best shard out there if you like playing with (lots of) other people.

I've been trying to play.
I finally got the client to download completely last night, but when I installed it it gave me a bunch of errors about anima#.mul files or something. I hit ignore on them, hoping that it would work regardless. Then it failed to update, and I once more hoped it would work anyway.
I installed razor and set everything up, then logged in and created a character.
As soon as I actually went to play, however, it crashed.
I guess I need to find a decent connection.. Hmm.

This is the exact problem I was speaking of.
The server made things too easy to invite more players.

I resemble old good times, the night rade on wyrm dungeon brought us a big cash of 40k.
At those time only strongest guilds had their own castle.
There were like 6-8 of them in the whole world. One of them was ours...

In a couple weeks?
100k/hour.
15 hours of maniacal gameplay = 1,5 kk = castle.

So you can basically supply you with EVERYTHING within a week. I mean, all main GM skills + gear + one-person-castle.

I avoid this kind of shards for all costs =).

I've played on a shard like this once. I upped hiding, fencing and parrying to GM in 4 days. Then I earned a castle and bought all-golden furniture for it in other 4 days. In other 4-5 days I became bored and quit (and after that I sleeped long enough [at last]  :)).
My munchkin nature needs much more to have a real fun =).

Yes, I know about guilds.  I know about the guild recruiters going off and desperately trying to grab more people and shove them into a guild, I know about the guild leaders that enforce mindless rules , upon their minions, I know about the guild members who only join the guild to get the free stuff and who have no intention of attending the meet-ups.


People just do not work together.  Personal glory and greed are the only factors that have any effect on what a player might do, so unless you can manage to convince them that working together is the best course of action for fulfilling both those needs (and rousing speeches will never suffice, only cold programming that gives benefits for working together), you're going to have a rather spread-out army that's going in different directions.


The most spectacular show of teamwork I ever read about was the assault on Caiger Mall in the browser-based game "Urban Dead".  That happened once, and there are suspicions that some people used multiple accounts to get the number of combatants up.

The most spectacular show of teamwork I ever witnessed personally was when that guy in Battlefield 2 actually agreed to follow me.

Poor deprived Kagus.

In Planetside I was in an Outfit (guild) called Brotherhood of Fallen Angels, they were a spec ops outfit (Which just meant that they usually went behind enemy lines to destroy their infrastructure) that had a really involved recruiting program where they would set up meetings for potential recruits then ship them out to a secure continent via Galaxy air transport with a few trainers and make them go through a course.  Assuming they did what they were told they were allowed to join.

That group totally kicked ass.  We were always dropping behind enemy lines or onto bases and destroying the enemy generators or capturing the enemy bases that weren't being attacked by the main force.  We also had great unit cohesion and and teamwork because people actually followed orders.  You just need to find people to join your guild that are willing to play that way.
