This will be my last report before handing off the save.

Recovery of the pits goes well. Although some areas still remain inacessable, we have recovered much of the gold and adamantine around the areas that have been determined safe. The pools have been drained, including the magma pool. (which destroyed many of the dwarf bones that had fallen near the pit proper when the demonhammer fell. Sadly, those dwarves will only recive a memorial stone and not have their remains interred.

Our food production is stable, and our effeciancy in moving around the fortress has improved greatly. We have destroyed about 2,000 stones this year and our military are all elite and many are past adept with their weapon of choice. Our marksmen will soon be elite themselves, at which point they will be force to be reckoned with.

Sadly though, one of the dwarves will not survive past spring. The bone bolt maker has went secretive and has failed to claim a workshop, instead hiding in his bedroom. I'm currently building normal smithies and glass furnaces, but I'm not holding out any strong hope for him.

Winter is halfway done. Spring will be here soon at which point I will send the file to the next ruler in line. May you have as much sucess as Kagus and I.

Edit: As soon as I finished posting Edzul the Siege operator had her second child. A girl.
Edit2: The craftsdwarf wanted a glass furnace... shame we don't have any glass.
Right now he's grabbing a number of metal bars and uncut gems. Hopefully he won't be interested in any sort of glass at all...
Edit3: Whoo, another artifact. Total value of 127,200 dwarfbucks.

We also now have a legendary glassmaker... woo. . . . (>.> ). At least the name is appropriate.

Year five is done and the save is Here

DFMA file is up Here

Peace, good luck to the next person in line!

Pitchblack is next. I've sent him/her/it/them a private message informing him/her/it/them of his/her/it's/their turn.

Good luck folks! Also, pop me in for turn 15. If we survive that long I'd be willing to give Roariron another go. ^^ But not a day before that. *walks away to wash hands*

Well I'm ready to step in, and after looking at the Dfma file I am concerned about the possibility of my processor dying. Most forts i have never are placed on this big of a map. Perhaps i will be fine, I do not know. Nevertheless i am going to proceed Saturday, as with the time of this post it is near 12 and about time for me to sleep. At any rate i would like some info on Roariron, what rules are there, what needs done, what should continue, and other things. Id also like to know what levers do what and defense plans, etc etc. As soon as i get a chance this weekend i will get on to this, but it its to difficult or hard on my processor I will not waste a week on you guys to wait for me to finish.

Unfortunatly, *I* don't really know where every single lever goes. At least, not exactly.

Some of them connect to the raised bridges, pulling them will bring down the nearby bridge wall. One of them connects the paved channel that leads to the cistern to the brook, filling the cistern. Two seperate levers Are connected to the floodgates at the north end of the cistern, while another floodgate connects to the well room. The lever on the level above the magma forges and smelters connects to the adamantine floodgate that connects to the magma forges.

Aside from that good luck. The fortress itself is a massive lagfest (part of the reason I took so long) and untill a LOT of the loose stone get's cleared up it will probably remain that way.

Good luck!

I have downloaded the save and my turn is in motion. I may not get anywhere fast since I do not know the logistics of this place. I have only a few gaols for my year:
----
STORYGOAL: HUGE MONUMENT!!!! more details later, stone blocks expected needed: anywhere upwards of 400

GOAL: Fixing the logistics to my liking. (could consider this minor but it is my least favorite job.

GOAL: kill some stone.

Goal: Make 20 bedrooms

Goal: Fix food production

Minor goals:
increase defenses
make one main lever system (i don't know if this can be accomplished or not)

I'm also taking requests for things to get done that i may have missed.
----
I will be doing my fort as a story, if this becomes to hard i will abandon it and do updates. I also would like to know when my resignation date is (spring?) and any other details that could be considered helpful.

I have the intro ready, it took me a while to finish so ill actually start my rule later today, as i need to sleep. Anyway here it is in all its story ladeng goodness.

Those who hate blocks of text or huge paragraphs should avert their eyes.

From the journal of Zasit Tolunid, Kings liaison to the fortress RoarIron

1st Granite 1056 From the Gates of RoarIron

I have decided to write a journal before I get into anything serious, besides the last ruler asked for a few days to finish some things concerning demons of all things. When he mentioned demons I asked him what he was talking about and all he could say was “don't  worry its fixed.” I also asked other dwarfs about the demons and they either acted really busy and ran away or made an excuse about having to go fire a catapult. Since I do not have anything to do around here for a while I have decided to recap on what has happened to me over the past two weeks.

It started exactly 13 days ago, I was sleeping happily in my bed in the poor district of the capital. I was not poor, in fact far from it its just that the god trodden  taxdwarfs came a day early and I did not have a single coin on me. (lesson to be learned never invite people over for a drink or they could rob you blind) Even though I was evicted I slept well that night, only to awaken to a fat dwarf with plump helmets growing in his beard (how??) . The dwarf stared at me lying there, and said with a faint lisp “the king wants to see you, it is important.” I asked him if he was standing beside me all night and if he had the kings seal when he responded “no only for the past two hours and yes I have his seal.” The fat dwarf grudgingly pulled out a seal and handed it to me, before I could question him further the crazed dwarf ran of and screamed “I am free!!”  This concerned me but I had stranger matters to attend to, specifically why does the king want to see me?

After a short drink and a biscuit I headed to the throne room only to find the king already there with a strange smile on his face. The king was old, very old he had a thinning beard but was covered in adamantite, in fact the entire room was adamantite.
With the kings obsession with adamantite aside I asked why I was summoned. The king responded swiftly: “go to a fortress called Roarirons there you will take over from the fortresses leader. After taking command build me a monument to defend the fortress and to the god of admantite.” he handed me 2 scrolls and said “do not open the 1st until you reach the fortress, and under no circumstances read the 2nd. The first one is a blueprint and the 2nd one is a note to the next ruler. You are to give your rule to the next dwarf after one year and hand him the second scroll. ” He then forced me out of the throne room and closed the doors just as I turned to ask a question. I then thought I could ask the kings aide, so I set off in search of him.

It took a hour to find him but he was eager to answer my questions. I asked a little about Roariron and he said “its some fort out in the wilderness I have no idea whats out there.” I also asked of the king and why he liked adamantite, he responeded with “the king hates admamantite, claims all the time it brings demons and suffering!” I exclaimed
“Then why did he have a entire room made from it, why did he have his clothes made from it!” The Dwarf replied, “this is strange I have heard of this only once before, it seems you have had a godly encounter, the dwarf you spoke to was the first dwarven king. It is said that he was deemed an equal to the gods as he singlehandedly saved us from extinction, he loved adamantite and the gods rewarded him with a position among their ranks.... well at least thats what the old texts say. Whatever he said to you dont tell anyone what he said, it could be important. My advice to you my friend is to do what he says there are stories of the gods rewarding loyal dwarfs.”He then said “ Roariron needs a new leader anyway and you look fit enough. Go there and lead the fortress, its stable enough and you would serve as a placeholder until the next dwarf can arrive.”He then handed me a letter to the current leader of the fortress and told me it was all I needed to claim the fortress and take it for my rule. I thanked him and headed off to gather my things, I too have heard stories of rewards... and of even worse penalties for not doing the gods wishes. I headed out to Roariron that day and thought I needed a change of scenery anyway, besides Roariron has to be better than the capital and my new rathole of a home.

The trip was uneventful and took around 12 days. I followed the main roads and visited some other fortresses on my way and I eventually found what my map had me looking for, a large Pillarstone with spikes on a island in deep brook. The map said to follow the brook for several miles and I would reach roarirons road. I followed the brook to the road and was immediately greeted by a strange dwarf. The dwarf looked at me and said “im guessing your the only immigrant this year, oh well. Say you don't worship Godum do you?” I replied: “no, and no I am not. I am Zasit Tolunid and I have been sent here by the God Of Adamantite to lead this fort to prosperity. I am instructed to lead this fortress and mine the adamantite in his name.” The dwarf looked at me strangely and his expression changed to anger. “we don't like New gods in our fortress. Leave NOW!” I replied that I had been appointed by the kings aid anyway and that he didn't have to like it. He asked for proof so I handed him the letter I was given by the Kings aide. When he Read it he said he would take it to the current ruler and that he would tolerate my rule. I thanked him and asked where the fortresses dining room was and he said nothing as he ran back into the fort, still holding my letter.  So here I am, ready for whatever challenges this fort will surely throw my way.

Notes: i didnt get a chance to proofread, it was simply to late and iw anted to get it posted so there may be some run-on or typos. Laso the next updates should be shorter, it just took alot to convey my story idea without making it seem to short.

Please comment as this is my 1st attempt at a story dirven succesion year.

3rd Granite 1056 From the chambers of Zasit Tolunid

Well it seems that the previous ruler has finished doing... whatever he had wanted to do concerning demons. I still don't know what it was he was doing or why.I can not worry about it now, he was probably just superstitious. I have claimed a large room east of the main wing as my Dining hall and bedroom, this room is large and will be perfect as a area to co-ordinate our masons for the task ahead. On my initial tour through this fortress I noticed many MAJOR PROBLEMS. First off the hallways and stockpiles are littered with stone, this slows down dwarf movement and makes it impossible to store our products. Speaking of the stockpiles they have the worst logistics I have ever seen in my travels, for example the stockpile for drinks is at least 30 tiles from the still! Whats worse is even though we have plenty of drink for the time being we have virtualy no plants to speak of for food! If I catch the Godtrodden dwarf who designed this area I will have him sent to the jail!! Still the fort has more problems as it seems the farms were all but destroyed to grow towercaps. This is normally fine as long as you leave room for farming, but for whatever reason it seems the previous ruler ignored that part. I'm also faced with hallways sizes as they are simply to small, sadly I cant do anything about this problem. I will have to do my best to keep traffic flowing and loitering down. I have many problems ahead of me, first I need to learn where things are, remove the stones in the stockpiles, and finally re organize them to be efficient. This is going to be a long year for me especially when tasked to build this monument.
As a Final note i opened the blueprints, I wont divulge the details since I have
a bad feeling that someone could steal and read this journal while I sleep.

Pitchblack, I feel your pain in several areas. 90% of my year was spent cleaning stone with catapults (particularily the workshop hallways and stockpiles >< ) and many workshops had over one HUNDRED tiles between them before I rearranged things somewhat.

For food: the 20+ tiles of farms we have left should be easily able to supply our small population once the planters get a little more experience. The majority of the plants I had gained over the winter (and the surface seeds, now that we don't really need them anymore) have been made into prepared meals and alcohol. As it is I had to turn on "All Dwarves Harvest" in order to get all the food in before it spoiled on the vine. six 10x10 farm plots were totally unnecessary for the size of the fortress, and the area was better utilized to grow underground shrubs and tower-caps :/

I have no idea what you're complaint is about the hallway sizes, I found them perfect even if I didn't design them :/. Also, the underground still is situated nearly in a direct path between the drink stockpile and the farms, with a plant-only stockpile directly above it. :/

I made the mistake of thinking that the barracks was where we stored booze. I have a question though, where are we storing the seeds as I have looked and cant find it. the problems with the hallways are simple, When the fort grows it will have lots of congestion problems. Other then that the only thing slowing me down right now its that I CANT THINK OF A GOOD MONUMENT!!!! If anyone has any ideas please Pm them to me.

It doesn't have to be a monument. How about a mural? Use your imagination.
