I have decided... to sign up! I wish to add to Roariron's (or should I say RoArIrOn?) legacy. The rule seems to be everything in the bottom two or three z-levels?

No.  The rule is everything at least five z-levels and thirty-two tiles away from anything else.

Take a look up above.  I forgot to add the magma forges as a point of interest.

Find the stairs in the middle of Roariron proper.  Go up until you reach the surface.  Then, find the wide corridor to the right, and follow the staircase at the end of that up.

Actually, I'm not sure if that's the right staircase...  I think it is, but I don't really know.  At least it's close to the magma pipe, so just follow that up all the way to the top and you'll find the forges.  From there you can try and trace the route it takes to the main(-ish) area.

ah.

Well, I still want to play. It'll be ages before my turn shows up, but I'm still interested in trying some succession games. This will be interesting   :D

You realize he's eventually going to mandate zinc items, don't you?  There's no sphalerite in the mountain, and the liason seems to have disappeared.  If he's dead, he ain't coming back.  That means you won't even be able to order the required zinc.

So, either he dies, or he tears the fortress apart.  The revolution will come some time.

I will not mine anything except the several already exposed ore viens. There is already enough junk rock in this fortress to keep the inhabitants busy for twenty years or more. I have no intention of ADDING to this problem.

Right now I'm mass producing blocks and doors (in case a tantrum spiral begins, so I can isolate tantrumers while they scream bloody murder. I've started construction on a set of screw pumps for our four untrained peasant haulers to gain some skill increases on, as well as for our military to gain toughness on.

Whoever built the crusher in the lower levels, would you kindly tell me where the lever is for it? Honestly, I'd prefer a map (or a description detailed enough to draw a map from) since I'm not certain which levers might cause catasrophic failure... and there is no way to check short of pulling them. (Except for the lever that is connected to the bridge stockade. I did find that one by using T)

I'm also building some traps outside of our walls in order to reveal ambushes before they reach our "relitivly undefended" gate. Obviously most are stonefall traps, but they will be effective in giving me time to get everyone inside.

Erm, let's see... anything else...

Oh yeah, I've begun digging into the adamantine tower. Once finished i'm going to carve some fortifications in it to shoot the last demon. Then i'll probably toss a test dwarf into the pits to check and see if there is anything alive that hasn't be revealed.

Working though a possession right now, ending spring and moving into fall. I'm planning on crushing/breaking at least 6k stone to make this fort run faster. (leaving a solid 12k left for constructions. I may use a few hundred blocks or so for a small monument.)

All right, back to playing! Busy weekend ahead of me.

I assume the stone "crusher" is a form of the Dwarven Atom Smasher?

Oh, sorry about that.  It's in the upper left-hand corner of the dining room, for easy access to idle dwarves.

And I think that's about it...  There's a lever in the orthoclase chamber (with a bunch of silver spikes lying around, damn shame for all that silver since they didn't get used) that can be removed.  In fact, since the purpose of all the levers in there has been nullified, they can all be taken out/ignored.  Don't know why you'd want to deconstruct them (plenty of mechanisms already), but I'm just listing levers.

So far as I know, there's no "doomsday device" lever, aside from the rock smasher control.

Excellent, thanks Kagus.

I'm slightly concerned that all of our skilled planters have been drafted (noticed that when I went to "train" them and found out several of them were nearly legendary). However, I'm trusting your judgement on this.

I also drained the underground farms by mining out the gem cluster that made up the gem cluster in the north-west corner. I'm planning to re-engrave and rebuild the wall, but I was getting worried there would not be enough proper (non-booze based!) food to go around.

The previous siege operator his now a legendary. He is now hauling while two of the unassigned peasents are working on clearing out the stone in the workshop/stockpile area. The wood stockpiles are nearly clear, and I've removed the upper storage area entirely in favor of smaller stockpiles directly over our workshops. By the end of summer i'm expecting to have another few hundered stones crushed VIA catapult and drawbridge.

In other news: The dungeon master has arrived. I gave him Obek's old office near the trade depot and a random bedroom. Now all I need to do is make him a tomb and our new dungeon master will be settled.

As for the adamantine, the fortifications to be dug into it have not been finished. I've been working on a small tower built mostly into the clifface by our entryway to serve as a stable firing surface, and since I've been using a combination of blocks (diroite, mainly, I'm saving the colored stuff for the monument I intend to build on the top) and carved engravings none of our engravers have had a chance to carve a fortification for Limul and her lakey (one of our wrestlers has a little brain damage. I figured he would be useful in the xbow squad... once I get some practice bolts made.) can use to shoot apart the last frog demon.

Granted, I don't know if there are more of them sneaking in there. I think I'll throw Obek to find out. ^^ Or I could just have the military on stand-by when I dig it open...

Either way, things continue apence. I've constructed a few more golden bins (mostly since we have so many bars of it) and built a full dining room.

Oh yeah, we had a migration.

One dwarf. Our dungeon master.

~This is why we don't murder our population randomly~
