The marksdwarves may be able to pick em off from the pit opening....If the stone drop dont kill em there could be trouble.

A scene from Roariron.....

Obok jerked his lever hard in frustration.  "She is NUTS!!!" he grumbled,  "She has no respect for the gods, and no regard for my wisdom or advice" he continued.  "Bah ye just dont care for womanfolk gettin things done in short order" Kadol replied with a teasing slap to the back of Obok's head.
"She dont see visions yet she's been here almost a year, that doesnt bode well"  said Obok as he stood abruptly.  "I'm goin to talk some sense into her once and for all" he slammed his lever down and head for the door.  >>>>CRRRAAACCKKK<<<<
The world spun and Obok saw stars.  "Ill go speak with her woman to woman and handle this" Kadol said as she helped Obok over to his chair.  "You stay and mind your lever dear" she said kissing him on the fast growing bulge near the back of his head and placing the lever back in its slot.  Obok began slamming his lever...

Kadol stomped down the halls.  She had had enough.  All year long Obok and Limul had been going back and forth and back and forth.  Even though  Obok can be a bit overwhelming at times his spirit was true, Limul must know the truth and this quiff must end.  If she had to end it herself...

When Kadol came upon Limul she was training some archers in intermiadate firing patterns.  >>>>>>>WHOOOOMMMMPPP<<<<<<<<Her>>>>>>>KAAPPOOOWWWWW<<<<<<
The group of dwarves went flying in all directions, her pick embedded deep into the rock.  "Vermin!"" Kadol chuckled helping Limul to her feet.  "Come with me I've somethin to show ye" said Kadol as she patted the dust off Limul and practically dragged her down the wide halls.

"So I seen you done alot down here Limul" Kadol said openly as they walked briskly down the halls as they passed the workzone and the many spikes Limul had ordered.  "Aye, we have, and this better be good Kadol, I've got to get those guys their lesson  and a hundred other things to do today" Limul muttered respectfully.  After all this was the legendary Kadol.  This dwarf had carved virtually every nook and cranny in this place so far...and engraved it masterfully.  This was not Obok,  Kadol was always cheerfull but... not very approachable.  You were as likely to get crushed in a monstrous bearhug  or dislocate a limb by a pat on the back.
"I wouldnt waste my time or yours, Aye its important"  Kadol barked as she grabbed another dwarf walking through the halls and walked deeper into the halls of Roariron.

As they went deeper and deeper into the mines Limul began to sweat and lost all sense of direction.  After all she had been here only a bit less than a year,  Kadol carved this place inch by inch with every ounce of muscle and spirit she had,  Limul began to get nervous.  "say whats the meaning of this Kadol?" she said.  We're almost there quiet you can hear them calling down the hall.

And Limul did hear them, a low groaning sound coming fom the end of the long orthoclase hallway they just entered.  Shivers ran down her spine.  "Come now"  Kadol said loudly "we need to have a chat" she continued as she dragged Limul down the hall.

They entered the chamber,  Kadol felt the pull of her god as she laid eyes on the room she had carved several years earlier.  "Wanna take a look?" Kadol said cheerfully.  Before  Limul could say anything the fine microline slab behind her wooshed back sucking the dwarves gently towards the gaping hole.

"Dont be asceared now!"  Kadol said as she slapped Limul forcefully on the back causing her to stumble dangerously near the edge.  "See?"  Kadol said.
Limul stared at the gleaming eyes peering from deep within the dark pit,  her knees buckled at the foul odor that emanated from its depths.  Kadol grabbed her and pulled her back.  "See why he is like that?"  "Those godum worshippers are drawn here by their evil."  "I am sure as I have spoken with Sculturedfists meself personally about it."  Limul stayed quiet and Kadol continued on.  "I stared one of those beasts down eye to eye and it nearly cost me my life", she said "then Sculturefists appeared out of nothing and defeated the vile thing while I lie there slipping into death"  "Aye, it was him who sealed the cobalt wall and breathed me life again" she said sternly.
"What Obok says about the gods is true, As I seen it before me own eyes.""Do you wanna see Limul?"  she laughed.  "I have seen quite enough Kadol" Limul said quite visibly disturbed.  "It's just that Obok seems so..." "Bah, he's my husband ye dont have to tell me!" she roared and patted Limul on the back.  "Now some people need seein to be beleivin, nuthin wrong with that I was the same way!" Kadol said as she turned and began walking away.
Limul was stared silently at the pit as Kadol and departed......

I've been supervising the digging of the microcline chamber, not only to make sure the miners are kept safe but also to make sure that they know they're being kept safe.

Most of the frog demons stay away from the pit now, so my job's gotten a lot easier.  The one that wandered a bit too close became an example of why they were staying out of my sight.  One bolt in the eye, one in the gut, one that snapped off in the arm, and a final bolt straight through the lung.  Even demons need to breath.

The others have also quieted their croaking a bit, although it is still a pervasive muttering.  I have no idea what they're talking about, and I have no intentions of finding out.  I want those grumbles and croaks silenced once and for all.

I've tangled with demons before, and it's always a relief of sorts when I hear croaks instead of some of the other, more sinister sounds, but frog demons still aren't that pleasant.

I have to wonder what role these beings played in the ancient world before our time, before the gods cast them down into the bowels of the earth and sealed them away for what had been assumed to be eternity.  Heh, leave it to a dwarf to shorten eternity.

Progress has been somewhat slow, but it is still progress.  I've had to work out the convoluted job assignments in order to get just the one miner up here, and he's the damned novice of the bunch.  Thanks to a few picks brought along by the caravan, I've had the materials for drafting a couple loiterers into digging work.  Naturally, no one is thrilled about digging around a demon pit, especially one that's open, but there's always the draw of curiosity.  That, and the news that I killed one of the blighters has drawn a few hopefuls who want to see me do it again.

Given the chance, I'd be more than happy to oblige.

The resident armorer has done something completely unexpected.  As much as I thought I was being rejected in this fort, I appear to have at least a few followers.  The adamantine plate I'm wearing over the chainmail is incredibly light, and the soft blue color glints powerfully in the darkness.  I sometimes forget that I'm carrying a shield made out of the same stuff, and have to look at the entrancing metal of it from time to time to remind myself of it, since it's so light.   I cannot thank the armorer enough for using his limited supply of adamantine to suit me and a couple of the other soldiers with adamantine armor.  There's currently not enough for full suits for each of them, but there are a few shields which will be handed to the most promising warriors who will serve as my lieutenants.  We'll have plenty of the precious stuff once the demons have been dealt with.

Speaking of adamantine, we uncovered another small patch of it while carving out the 'Demonhammer', as I have taken to calling the hunk of stone surrounding the microcline chamber.  A more experienced miner has been sent for and will be arriving to use his expertise in extracting the precious metal undamaged.  It is another setback, but one that I feel can be accepted.  We could always use more of it.

Today is the twelfth of Timber, 1054, and a great day for Roariron.  The Demonhammer has been almost completely readied, and awaits only the removal of the last few pieces of adamantine.  But of greater importance is that the fortress is finally taking on a semblance of order.

The people have risen up from their previous state of ignorance and bigotry, and have organized themselves better.  The local sheriff, once merely a decoration for the fortress, has now been given the position of Captain of the Guard, although that Guard has yet to take on members.

The people demand, and they shall recieve.  Obok has been forced from his position of a mere clerk, and has been bestowed with the title and responsibilities of the fortress's mayor.

And in all this tumult of breaking free, one of our own has given birth to a lovely baby boy.   Zuglar Ishlumsibrek, already the mother of three daughters, now has a son to add to her brood.  I can only imagine what that poor boy will grow up with, in a family of three older sisters, and a father who leads the Fortress Guard.  Heh heh, poor child indeed...

I hope that I can claim at least some credit for having brought this fortress out from the dark.  But it matters not, for I must attend to the final preparations in dealing with these oversized amphibians.  The dealings of the rest of the fortress can wait.

EDIT:  I'm not sure what Kadol intends by this, but it is a very nice image nonetheless.

I would like to request joining this Succession game, Its just that i have a horrid tendency to forget things, and that life may intervene and cause me to miss my turn or end it altogether. I also have not done one of these before so my writing may suck and contain few screenies (these are painful for my comp.) If thats ok then id like to join. One question though, may i name a dwarf after myself and are there special rules (like improve something alot or make something huge/significant?)

Not any real special rules, except be sure you can do your turn eventually, in the true spirit of the greatest succession game of history.

Kadol and Obok have recently been blessed with child.  They have named the boy "Aban", a prophetic name I am sure.

I must confess, I had no knowledge that she was pregnant.  I suppose that I have been far too caught-up with the Demonhammer plans...

Speaking of the Demonhammer, work has progressed nicely over the past few days.  The adamantine still needs to be removed from the chamber so that the last upper support can be taken away, and we need to remove the walls surrounding the pit on the lower level.  This is tricky business, since dwarves will be put closer to the frog demons, and thus in greater danger.  However, with outstanding dwarven bravery, the miners have carried forth their work with the exceptional  determination which is required of such a project.  The common workers of this fortress have earned my commendation through such acts.

The demons move closer to the pit opening in hopes of an unwary dwarven foot coming within slashing range, and so guards are needed at all times during the construction.  I have taken time from my other workings to do just this, as it not only allows me to keep my crossbow in use, but also gives me the perfect position from which to supervise the proceedings.

Speaking of crossbows, I have recently been awarded with one by the dwarves of the fortress...  It is made out of bone, something I normally don't use, but the bone has been worked with such exceptional care that I cannot refuse.  Also, it intrigues me...  The bone it is made out of is very dark, and radiates a slight heat that even now keeps my hands warm.  I feel more confident when facing the frog demons with this item in my hands, for some reason.  I suppose the greater craftsdwarfship from my older crossbow just makes me feel more secure in my ability to deal with these creatures, but it still tickles my thoughts from time to time...

The final upper support has been removed, and almost all of the adamantine has been excavated.  Work is almost finished, and the demons seem to realize it...  They've been more agitated as of late, and the belching screeches from their pit have disturbed many of the workers.  Before long, I'll give the demons something ro be disturbed about.  Very disturbed.

The body of the demon I shot has started rotting, and the smell is so inredibly foul I cannot even find words to explain it.  Luckily, it seems to be passing relatively quickly.  But any time at all spent in contact with that stench is far too long a time, by anyone's measure.

I begin to worry about Obok...  His new position as mayor seems to have gone to his head.

He is wandering around the fortress in an elegant silk robe, informing everyone he passes by to do what they're doing, and to do it quickly before he informs the guards of their sloth.  He recently came up to me and informed me with a sweeping hand gesture, one which he has been practicing extensively, that he had restricted any and all items made out of zinc from leaving the fortress.  If so much as a single zinc goblet were to leave the fortress grounds, there would be hell to pay.

Firstly, the only zinc in this fortress is a single bar which was imported from the mountainhomes.  Secondly, why was he telling me?  HE'S the merchant, he can sell whatever he damn well wants to!  I can't really afford more distractions like that as the Demonhammer nears completion...

I'e recieved complaints that a certain mason by the name of Zasit has been stealing items from various stockpiles around the fortress.

I went to investigate, and found that Zasit has laid claim to one of our masonry workshops, and has amassed a pile of random odds and ends that would make any packrat swell with pride...

It seems we have had yet another burst of creativity in the fortress.  Zasit has been spotted dashing back and forth across the fortress in search of whatever items he absolutely must have for his construction.  There's nothing to be done except wait for him to finish collecting, I can only take action against this if he starts to get 'difficult'.

I don't like doing it, but I'd rather kill one dwarf than let him kill twenty others.  I'm not having another Stonehaven on my hands.

Progress on the Demonhammer has been slow...  We are already into winter now, and the supports on the bottom have not yet been mined out.  The area surrounding the pit is too dangerous, even with the few demons I've managed to take down with my new crossbow.  I swear, the bolts fired from this thing seek out the black hearts that beat away within the pale green flesh of the frog demons...   I am conflicted.  As much as I would like to know what this crossbow is made out of, I fear that I would rather not know...

We're going to try carving out the final supports from above.  It's a tricky maneuver, and it will take more time, but it looks to be the only viable option at this time.
