The Legend of "Roariron" (a succession game) O
« on: March 12, 2008, 01:41:00 am »

5th hematite, 1052, early summer...

Much has transpired since the founding of Roariron, indeed we have felt the pull of the gods since our arrival.  Lurit the Diamond Crest has surely smiled on us and blessed this place.  It is my hope too remain in her good graces as the years pass...

Upon our arrival Kadol Sosadineth, the one we all know least of went off the deep end and dug into the mountain with a furvor.  She would respond to none of us, it was as if the mountain called her off...

She returned some months later with news of a magma vent he had discovered, Kadol slept the night in our humble fortifications and the next day she was gone again.  I prayed for her safety as she was non responsive to our pleas to help build the bridges we had planned to protect our little community, we built on...

Kadol had been gone the whole summer when finally she returned.  You couldn't miss the sound of her bellowing songs paying homage to Sculpturefists, our most high god of war.  Kadol sang the whole night as we celebrated her return, indeed we thought we were never to see hier again.  She sang long into the night, stories of valor and victory over a demom.  Indeed we thought her mad but we needed to let loose a little, we had been building for many months and had just completed our workshop and fortifications to protect us. Late in the night Kadol produced a surprise to joy the gods themselves... a piece of raw adamantium!!!!!

Oh our amazement!!! She was not lost in the mind after all!  She told us the tale of how he had stubled across a demon pit while digging and how she bested the monster barely surviving thanks to Sculpturefists will.  And in her weakened state she had managed to wall in the pit to save his own life.

In the last six months news traveled to mountain homes of our discovery and our leader arrived...a drunk.  I sense this is only the begining of our tale.  We have began building around the demon pits, Kadol has built a special room to drop any enemies directly into the pits of hell, I thought her crazy but the design of the airlock has me convinced we can put any captured enemy into this room, lock the airlock, release the cages and retract the bridge to drop them into hell.  Of course we have not yet tried...I am convinced we need to get the farms going Kadol has mined so much adamantium and almost finished the palace deep underground. She now works furiously with her apprentice to engrave the walls of our splendid keep before we move in.  I am currently studying her art to see if i can obtain anything usefull about these demons.

I am sure our ranks will swell with each passing season, I have locked the gates in an attempt to keep this quiet.  We will have every drunken dwarf alive stumbling down the road here...Obok Fikukkol

My first succession game, all are welcome to join. Forgive me if I suck.

I wanted to do kind of a blind fortress, meaning the activities of your year are totally up to you (for the good of Roariron).  You will not be held to the demands or requests of the previous caretaker.

Lets see how it goes.

We have iron, magma, brook that freezes in winter, some trees and addy!

The demons have not been released or defeated so keep that in mind...tho the loction is well known our legendary Kadol has sealed them... 4 now.

That's a pretty big file...  And a rather odd name.  Which files did you package?

Also, could we get some pictures?  I'd like to see what the embark area is like, and maybe a couple shots of the actual location whil you're at it.

Well, we can't see anything.  You hosted the picture on a file hosting site instead of a picture hosting site, so it's not showing up.

If I can see what it looks like, I'll take the fourth spot in line.  I can't do much right now however, since I've got a few other things that I'm supposed to be paying attention to.

succession forts are so very hard, running just a community fort is very time consuming for me with work and everything, i hate to pass it up because it seems like you've written a great intro and have a nice looking spot, but it's not for lack of wanting, and i'll gladly read up on the updates berent =)

Also, for help with linking an image, first, you need to right click on the image in the link you have, and go to "view image" so you get JUST the image on the page.

then, to link the image, just put

code:

this one would be:

[IMG]http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/82/map4yousqq0.jpg[*/IMG] without the *

you dont' need to do the [img= stuff.  hope that helps

you'll want to upload the save of the region, so, if it's region1 for example, take the folder in your dwarf fortress/data/saves/ directory named region1, zip it or archive it, then put that file up on a file hosting  and link away =)

It's better to use DF file depo to upload any files that have to do with Dwarf fortress.

I might give it a try. The problem is finding the time to do it properly.

I don't see the line, or where my place would be in it, but I'll join up.
