Lem's Journal, No date

Catapults... who needs a catapult when you can just have some spears thrust themselves through the chest of anything you want? Rocks work just as well... Well... catapults do throw rocks... Hmm... Maybe I should go try my hand at building catapults.............

Nahhhhh....

Grukol's Journal, 18th Slate, 1053
Migrants have appeared from the North! They include:
1xTanner
1xMason
2xMason/Engraver
1xEngraver
1xMiner
5xPeasant
1xMiller
2xWeaponsmith
1xStonecrafter
1xWoodcrafter
1xCarpenter/Woodcutter/Bowyer
1xWeaver/Stonecrafter/Leatherworker
1xThresher
1xGrower/Butcher/Milker

This brings our numbers to 27. Twenty dwarfs wandered right into our outpost. I asked most of them, why? They responded, There's work out here to be done. Though most of the dwarfs allude me, we'll see just what these dwarfs are made of.

OOC: Sorry about the delayed posting. I've been sick, and also been busy with work. I should be okay for now.

The extra hands have been AMAZING. Things are actually zooming around here. The fort's clutter has been cleaned up, organized, and sifted through. Our food stores are slowly escalating. The founders and I can finally work on what we want to work on, instead of multitasking all the time.

Nightfall, 8th Felsite, 1053
The six of them prowled through the forest, looking for their next meal. The wolves had always been a solitary unit. One scouted, One planned, They all attacked. So far, nothing had gone wrong for them.
---
"I don't see why we're out here."
"Grukol said there has been some wolves roaming these parts" responds Jorhind, Skadi sighs and rolls her eyes.
"Seriously though, I could see sending us out if there was say...a Troll...or maybe a band of Goblins. But Wolves?" she mutters more under her breath.
They hear rustling in the bushes, and halt.
"Guess we found em"
---
The wolves spot the two dwarfs. They disregard their pointy sticks, and form a ring around them. They move in, growls escape their throats. The Alpha howls loudly, and pounces from the bushes.
---
Jorhind brings the butte of her spear upwards, sending the wolf sprawling. Another one rushes past and jumps at Skadi. She leaps to the side, and stabs her spear forward. It just brushes it's leg. The numbers of wolves seem to multiple. There's now 5 of them. Biting, Snarling, circling the dwarfs.
"Keep close now!" Skadi stabs at the nearest wolf again, he yelps loudly as the spearhead finds soft flesh. It jumps back, a wound on its back bleeding profusely. The largest of the wolf bounds at Skadi. She sees it, anticipates it. The wolf lunges. Skadi goes low, and brings her spear upwards. It catches the wolf in the throat and up through the head. It's eyes bulge, the body convulses violently on the end of her spear, then goes limp.
---
The wolves howl upon seeing the death of their leader. The scout, having been slightly injured is the first to flee. The rest of the pack follow, their tails tucked between their legs.
---
"That's right! Go on and run!" Skadi yells, giving chase only for a moment.
Skadi and Jorhind wander back, half way back they run into a Peasant making his way out. They stop him.
"Where are you going?" Jorhind asks.
"Why to go clean up a mess out in the woods. Grukol said there would be a few bodies out there. 'Be it Wolf or Dwarf, please return the corpses back here' he said"
"but I see that I'll be getting wolf corpses" and off he went.
They both stood there in disbelief.

We've completed our dining hall. It seats 20 dwarfs at one time. But we all take different hours to eat. We also expanded our Barracks. We're now up to 5 military dwarfs. Skadi and Jorhind are our only armed dwarfs. We have 3 other dwarfs practicing in the art of wrestling and shield use. I'll arm them eventually. Also, with the coming of the Weaver, we're producing tons of Phantom Spider Silk Threads. Besides that, we're in no immediate danger at the moment.

OOC:I can't up and abandon this fort yet  :) It's just begun!
---
14th Malachite, 1053
"It'll be grand I say, GRAND" Rice exclaimed looking over the smoothed stone. He, and his team of engravers worked hard over night and through out the day. Tile by Tile, Wall by Wall, they slowly smoothed out the entire Dining Room.
"And when we're finished I'll design images on each of the columns" he explained to the others. He clapped his hands together, dust flew out in a cloud.
On that day, Rice officially announced himself "Head Engraver"

18th Malachite, 1053
Lem and Grukol stand outside near one of the gates. Lem points in several spots to show him what trap needs to go where and how the mechanisms must be placed in order to attain maximum efficiency.
"So in order to maintain enough speed the stone must be projected downwa~" she stops and looks at Grukol, who is staring at a Woodcrafter.
"Grukol, what's wro~"
"Shh, watch" he points with his chin.
They watch the woodcutter take several faulty steps. Stumbling here and there. He suddenly stops, and spasms wildly. After the quaking of the poor dwarfs frame stops, his eyes glow a bright violet in color.
"WOOD...WOOD...BONES...HURK....WOOD...WOOD...BONES..." the dwarf chants in a Booming drone.
They follow him down into the fort. Dwarfs clear his path, as he marches down the hallway and into the Craftsdwarf Workshop. He boots the poor Stonecrafter out of the shop, and begins picking up the items he chanted of in order. He then slams the door on them, and a ruckus insues on the other side.
"What in the name of Armok was that about?" Lem asks.
---
5 days later
The woodcrafter tumbled out of the room. Hunger and Thirst stricken his face, as he wanders down the hallway. No one questions him, but he mutters "Edtuliggal Dallithdeduk" under his breath every once in a while. Grukol peaks inside the workshop and sees a:
Glumprong Mini-Forge. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is decorated with Turtle Bone and encircled with bands of Glumprong. This object menaces with spikes of Cedar.
...
"Groovedtrap the Riddled Manor..." Grukol muses the name over in his head. The estimated cost is 4800*.

26th Malachite, 1053
"Rice, could I speak to you?" Grukol asks from across the dining room, looking at the engravings on the Pillars.
"Yo" Rice wanders up, and smiles.
"I see you're enjoying my fine works!" he boasts.
"They are all pretty darn great... But for what reason, are they all of a dwarf being stricken down by a werewolf? We've never lost anyone in this fort"
Rice sits there for a second.
"Well, you see. The first dwarven caravan to come to us had a Liaison with them." he explains.
"But I spoke to no Liaison at the time" Grukol begins.
"Right... well, he was off the beaten track. I kinda saw him get torn to pieces and dragged off deeper into the woods."
He stands in disbelief. Staring at Rice.
"Well..I uhh... Pretty neat pictures eh?" Rice grins.
"I, have no words to explain to you how furious I am..." Grukol walks off, leaving Rice to finish his last Engraving on the last pillar. It's of a Dwarf surrounded by dwarves.

20 some odd dwarfs are available, anyone wanting a spot now is a good time. Refer to the list above. 3 peasants are now Wrestlers.

I'll grab a male peasant, name him Istrian, give him a sword and chain mail (when available) and enlist him in the Fortress Guard (when available too).
No shield please.

Grukol's Journal, 2nd Galena, 1053
As I was brewing up a mighty fine drink, I was approached by one of our two peasants. He introduced himself as Istrian Luredinked. He asked to join the Fortress Guard and requested a sword, rather forwardly. I told him right there on the spot, We dont have a Fortress Guard nor do we have swords. Yet. I sent him off after telling him that if any anvil comes soon, I'd have a weaponsmith craft him a silver sword for practice use.

I went over our stocks, and found we have much in the way of food and drink. Which means we didnt need barrels at the moment. I grabbed Vag from woodcutting and brought her to the Wood Warehouse. She asked me why I had brought her there. I told her this: "All of this wood is at your expense. Work every single piece here into a piece of siege machinery.". She looked astounded and more then eager to perfect her skill in the art of Siege Engines.

A Goblin Snatcher was found today. We found it strange, seeing how this fort has no children in it. It was quickly dispatched regardless. Also, a Dwarf Caravan was spotted to the North West. We're anticipating an Anvil. Hopefully it'll be there.

17th Limestone, 1053
"Ya ever wonder why Grukol always sends us out into the woods all the time?"
"No, nor do I care. I love the cool autumn breeze out here." Jorhind responds. Skadi sighs. She turns around and looks at Jorhind, who has her face lifted to the sky and is letting the sun beat down on her. Suddenly, she runs into something behind her. She turns around and looks. A kobold is sprawled out before her. They look at each other, the Kobold scrambles to get up and tries to run. Skadi gets two stabs off. One pierces the poor saps leg, the other it's head. Yet it still walks and grabs a hold of the spear in a feeble attempt to dislodge it. Jorhind runs in from behind Skadi and thrusts her spear into its chest. It stops moving finally.
"Thieving Kobolds..." mutters Jorhind. Movement is caught out of the corner of their eye. They turn to see a Goblin Snatcher leap from the bushes. Skadi is caught offguard, she stumbles back. Jorhind however is on her game and advances on the Goblin. He raises his dagger to fend off her attack. As her spear comes down on it's head, he's suddenly pulled backwards. A werewolf has sneaked in behind the Goblin, now it buries it's muzzle into it's neck. There's a gutwrenching ripping sound as the Werewolf tears the neck off. It's head falls backward. The two dwarfs are caught offguard, and make a hasty retreat.
"We're lucky" huffs Skadi.
"We could have been the Goblin!"
