Grukol's Journal, 11th Sandstone, 1052
I've taken Vag off of her toy, and sent her to cut some more wood. We're low on Barrels, and I need them badly. She's been launching boulders day in and day out. She's becoming quite good at it. Hopefully, she'll be able to put that skill to work someday. The Eastern and Western Defensive walls are almost complete. Then the Southern Barricade can be placed. Dastotsarek will have two entrances. Each heavily fortified with Traps. I've mentioned that to Lem, he growled with anticipation. Beyond the traps will be Draw Bridges. The hope is to keep them outside the walls, and fire at them from above and with Siege Weapons. However, if they somehow make it to the bridges before they are raised. They must first go through the traps, then if they pass them. Our last resort is Skadi and Jorhind with their spears. Hopefully it doesnt come to it, but if it does I would trust those two with my life.

It seems Valcon has become legendary with his mining. He can swing his pick and tear away sections of cave wall within seconds. He truely deserves his title of Legendary Miner. For the record, this is the first Legendary Dwarf in our Outpost. I expect Vag to be next, she does nothing but practice with her "Starfall" all day.

Just a quick question; What have I been up to lately? I'd like to flesh out the character a bit more but I don't want to make inaccurate references. I.E., claiming wild heroics while in fact being cooped up inside, or vice versa.

Rather good read so far; and yeah, Terrifying Biomes tend to be less than Terrifying; I had a weaver with no military skill snap a werewolfs neck, despite having fallen asleep mere moments before. He had good stats for being a high skill weaver but wow, killing a named werewolf from your sleep? Impressive.

Skadi's been patrolling the "jungle". Hasn't really been challenged by anything. She had a few skirmishes with a wolf or two. It really wasnt worth the mention because they took less then a few seconds each. You walked up, stabbed it a few times, it died. So far everyone hasnt been in danger of dieing, and with the completion of the Defensive Wall, plus the Moat. I don't think any of the workers will be put in harms way any time soon (Hoping for immigration waves soon, which might bring in some Goblins)

Skadi's Diary, 14th of Moonstone, 1052

Wow, life here can get pretty boring. It's much better than it was back in the mountainhomes with those stodgy old beards getting me down all the time, but not allot really happens. I mean, we had that werewolf, and it was a good time, but Gruko, well, he's almost as much a killjoy as grandpops was. Vaggy says he's just being cautious, but he's way too careful. Like with that werewolf! Stupid little puppy barely had time to twitch. But he didn't want me to go kill it, kept worrying about something happening to me.
I guess it's kind of sweet, but I don't need to be coddled like that.
Hmm, I hear someone coming, time to be the tough girl. Maybe I'll get to spear something this time! I'll have to work on my grip, it makes the men uncomfortable and that's OK, but I think if I work on it I can make them *really* squirm.
xoxoxo, Skadi

(Sorry for not writing something interesting and fun the last, umm, 3? times I've had a nice opportunity, but it was date-night, and I spent all my morning doing something else)

Vagúsholon's Notebook, 14th Moonstone, 1052.
I'm getting quite good at this. I made a bet with myself that I could outline the traders with stone, unfortunately I was called off before I could do more then fire a single rock. Vîrumid's been good to me, but recently I've been thinking about a new kind of weapon. Inashvagúsh, it has a nice ring to it... Unfortunately I don't have the skill to make it. My ability to work wood to the detail needed to get it built is limited at best. My only solution is to practice working new parts until the point which I can get the specifics down to the sliver. Once that is reached, I will have to find the perfect pieces of Mahogany wood and get Inashvagúsh made. The problem is to convince Grukol to allow me the resources to do such an action. I suspect that if I convince him that siege weapon parts might fetch a decent price in the mountainhomes, he might allow me to begin my practice. I even have some plans on how to best deploy it.

code:

|XXX============|==T|
|+++++++o++++   |<<<|
|+++++++o++++   :<<<|
|+++++++o++++   |<<<|
|=========XXX===|===|

A long hall, with a perfect firing lane as the only access to the fortress. A small port with Inashvagúsh's arrowhead pointing out over a large pit so the goblins don't get so close to me that I get nervous. Pressure plates that drop huge floodgates right into the entrance and exit, preventing the goblins that come in from getting out, deep enough that they will get tripped after they all come inside to my killing zone!

I must be careful and remember the magic number though. Thirty Degrees of transversal equals two miner lengths out for two extra miner lengths of width. If I don't keep this in mind in my advice to Grukol, my killzone might not be as big as it needs to be.

Perhaps I can suggest some fortifications to be built above the sight where Inashvagúsh will be built as well, allowing archers to shoot down into the hall. In fact, why not build it to be three levels high? A grand entrance gallery! Not only will this provide an impressive entrance for traders, but it will provide a nasty suprise for invaders too. I must bring this plan to Grukol, so that I might get started on the work so I might build Inashvagúsh, the most masterful ballista I can dream of!

@Akroma - I'm not sure, I think if they kill enough they get a custom name. Someone else might have to answer the question of whether or not they get stat upgrades.

Grukol's Journal, 25th Opal, 1052
We've started back on the Crafting level. I felt where we had started was getting too jumbled. So I'm making it more proficient. I'll keep farming in that area, as I can grow things anywhere I need to. Skadi approached me, wanting to kill more things. From what I'm told, there's a werewolf hanging around the outskirts of our region again. If she wants to go fight it, by all means she may. Vag gave me plans  for a new entrance hall as well. The way the Defensive Wall is built, I'd have to rebuild the wall to incorporate it into the defense. But I'll see what I can do. I must also look into rebuilding Jorhind's Cabin. It's in the vicinity of Vag's catapult, which she always seems to be using when Jorhind is sleeping. So now that you see my predicament I must figure out where to place her new Cabin. Rice and Lem finished our walls, Lem is itching to place traps. Unfortunately, I have no good weapons to place in the trap. So for now we'll have Stonefall traps. Rice also installed our drawbridges. I'm also having a strong urge to build up...But that thought may be due to the fact I havent drink some good ol' ale today.

Sadly, dogs do not gain skills or attributes.

11th Obsidian, 1052
Skadi stomped into the Outpost, and threw the corpse of the Werewolf down.
"Grukol, you're much too overprotective of lil ol me" she laughed heartily
"You can see I'm very much capable of taking care of myself." She smiled as she flexed her muscles.
"Grukol?" she stares at him
"Hello?" still no response.
"HEY!" he flinches visibly
"Oh, Skadi? What can I do for you?" he asks
"You know what Gruk...You're such a...Grah!" She stalks off back to her post, grumbling all the way.
"I wonder what that was about?" he asks, looking down he sees the perforated corpse of the Werewolf.
"Oh"

End of Year Report '52

It's been one year, the outpost is working well for now. Skadi is slaying Werewolves. Vag is launching boulders like there's no tomorrow. Rice is building the ramparts to the defense walls. Lem is building mechanisms. Jorhind and Valcon are Mining up a storm. And Grukol, is farming and brewing to the best of his abilities. If anyone wants their Characters Profile/Relations, Stats, etc. By all means just ask.

Now that you mention it, I would like to see my Profile page and the info on my deity page, and if I've got anything besides passing relationships or friends I'd like to know about it (Grudges, Romantic Interests, Family, those kinds of things), but if there is nothing special, I don't care about relationships at this point.

I was about to ask for my dwarf's info, when I remembered that this is one of the few community forts that I'm actually not in.

I feel kinda bad about joining the Exiles fort...  Everyone there seems so diligent with their character updates, whereas I've remained completely silent since that first anthropological examination of dwarven culture.  I just have too many things that I'm trying to update.

Not that that seems to be stopping me from joining more forts and starting more modding projects, however...  Hell, how many people run two full-scale stories at the same time???  Both The Woodsman and DnG! call for my attention, and I have to spend a fair amount of time giving each update enough flavor to be even remotely interesting.

Ehh...  That's a bit off topic...  If there is a topic.  Nevermind me, just passing through.

@Kogan- I'll get to that after I get home from work
@Kagus- Whether you make little snippets like the rest of the crowd. Or you just sit there and let the author sculpt your dwarf. Its fun to see what happens regardless. If ya want I can put you down for the first immigration wave. I expect a whopping 2-3 immigrants :P

Lem's Journal, New year.

    I am so glad I signed up for this expedition! I just spend my whole day writing up plans for traps and mechanisms! I think the best time of my life will be seeing the stones crush a living creature. The elves would be ecstatic. Heh... elves... There was this one time I snapped an elf's left 4th finger off...

I haven't had any fights in a YEAR... My muscles are just withering away.

(Random sketches of Goblins being crushed to death by over sized boulders and being pierced my marksdwarves.)
