Grukol's Journal, 20th Slate, 1054
More Migrants, I cant figure out why the come here
---
1xStonecrafter
1xThresher
4xPeasant
1xRanger
1xHunter
1xWeaponsmith
1xAnimal Trainer
1xWeaver
2xWoodworker
1xAnimal Dissector
2xGrower
1xFisherdwarf
1xMetal Crafter
1xCheese Maker
---
That brings us up to a population of 54. With the coming of the Migrants, Rice has apparently been elected Mayor. He told me he doesnt know the first thing to running a village. I told him I'd help him behind the scenes, he seemed a little bit more relaxed.

Side Note: Don't believe I ever said I wasn't going to make a catapult/ballista lined hallway. I just have to figure out where would be the best place to do it...

Then your as crazy as she is!
 ;)

I didn't say it was a good idea, all I said is Vagúsholon thinks it is a good idea. Don't give in so quickly to crazy engineers, or you might find a "Mount Nevermind" situation coming about.

(Edit: Besides, her idea was fortress-wide, replacing places you would put statues with finely crafted dwarven engineering.)

On the topic of Statues, the outside of the Walls (soon to be Castle) I've placed statues. It's a toss up on the crack pot Hall of Catapults. It all comes down on room and placement.

Grukol's Journal, 2nd Felsite, 1054
Rice and I have been working diligently for hours on end. But for the most part I've been book keeping and trading with whoever enters our fort. I had Rice order the miners to carve out a section of the earth to fit his new room and office. Valcon already has half of it mined out. He ordered it this morning. His private quarters are quite nice, and he said he wanted no one else but himself to Engrave images into the walls. Whatever he wants I say. I recruited the Trapper and Hunter into the ranks of our military. They will train non-stop in bows. Lem has been outside for the better part of these last few weeks. She's been setting up traps like there's no tomorrow. There are a combination of 16 traps in each entrance way. Also, I noticed Lem and Valcon getting cuddly off in the side tunnels. Love is afoot! Vag has announced today that she has created a Masterpiece Catapult part. She said that in no time she'll be able to create the best parts on this side of The Scandalous Dump. Skadi and Jorhind however, are irking me. I have no idea if they are protesting the constant excursions of the forest, but they refuse to train in the way of the spear. They never spar, and sit around the barracks all day. Perhaps they'll like maces or clubs more. Anyways I must be off, items must be counted, Beer must be made.

12th Felsite, 1054
"GRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUKOL!" Rices voice boomed down the corridor. He stomped through the hallway and reared up in front of Grukol as he count his stocks.
"What is it?" he doesnt look up from his paperwork.
"Mark this down!" Rice bellows
"er...go for it?"
"There is to be no export of Billon items, under penalty of Hammerstrikes!"
"Billon ite~ wait, wait?" his brows draw together.
"Yes, Billon items are to not be traded under penalty of Hamme~"
"I got that already, but why Billon? We dont have any of that to begin with..."
"Uhmmmm...well...SO I SAY, SO IT SHALL BE" Rice then promptly turns on his heels and stalks out of Grukol's Office.

One of our Farmer's has gone Fey! He has claimed a Craftsdwarf's Workshop. This time we're prepared! We have shells! Let's just hope he doesnt need a particular metal!

Sweet glorious Shovelknead! We finally got the last thing the Fey dwarf wanted. A cut Onyx. He's now working feverishly in there. He has 6 Horse Bones, 4 Cat bones and the onyx. I get the feeling its going to be something extremely ugly.

2nd Malachite, 1054
The dwarf came out slowly, and produced a large Horse bone Dagger.
"Nonubborush Comnith Tath" he said upon showing it to Grukol:
"Punchraked the Butterfly of Dusk":
This is a large horse bone dagger. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is decorated with horse bone and cat bone. This object menaces with spikes of Onyx. One the item is an image of a large horse bone dagger in cat bone.
---
"Now, don't get me wrong this is a very nice dagger. But, why do you have an image of the dagger...on the dagger?"
"I dunno...seemed like a good idea at the time." the now Legendary Bone Carver admitted.

Grukol's Journal, 26th Limestone, 1054
I have left this journal barren for too long. Two caravans have gone and past. First a Human caravan, led by a Human Guildsman. I told him we'd appreciate an anvil if they could get that to us. The next was our dwarf brothers from the capitol. They had nothing to trade us. Next, the completion of the Grand Hall. Placed between the Barracks and the Dining Room. It houses Eight Catapults on Display, Eight Statues for viewing, and Twenty-Four seats to lounge and eat in. In addition there are Sixteen Engravings from Rice himself on the pillars and end caps. Unfortunately for Rice he was not re-elected as Mayor. Instead, some no name Stonecrafter got the job. I also noticed, that with this many dwarfs there needs to be some sort of Civil order. I need to find someone to take the job as Captain of the Guard.

Grukol's Journal, 6th Sandstone, 1054
Another dwarf has gone Fey. Again claiming a Craftsdwarf Workshop She got straight to work collecting what she needed. However, once more the headpounding screams for Shell are coming from beyond the door. I know we have raw turtle somewhere in this fort.
...
On a side note, I have started training myself in the way of the spear. I have a feeling it might prove useful.
---
OOC: Is there any way to make dwarfs eat these turtles any faster? or is it at random?

Vagúsholon's Notebook, 6th Sandstone, 1054
I was walking through the new Grand hall today and it occurred to me, who would make a better enforcer of Dwarven Law then a Dwarven Engineer! I have decided at my next opportunity to insist that I become the new captain of the Guard. Enforcing the safety of the fortress will fit nicely with my operation of the machines of defense of the fortress. I have also decided that oak wood will work as well as Mahogany for Inashvagúsh. Since I like oak better, I will have to try to get Grukol to import some oak when I am able to work the wood into masterful parts. If not, Mahogany will have to do.

---

OOC. If you forbid all food except the turtles, then they will have to eat them first. Just be ready to unforbid the food when you get a few shells.
