Lem's Journal, 15th Obsidian

Seeing as how things have been going lately I have decided to try a new Shell based death system. It failed after I realized I had no shells to make it with. At least I know I am sane - unlike those blabbering idiots. (A picture of a dragon)

Vagúsholon's Notebook, 15th Obsidian, 1053.
Shells. Shells shells shells. Shells appear to be what goes through the minds of dwarves before they go insane. Why shells? It makes no sense. Why not something solid, like a well-built ballista? I guess that is why they go insane. Not enough siege engines on the mind! I will suggest to Grukol that we place Ballistas along the hallways, so as to ensure that people see them wherever they go. That will solve the shell insanity problem. Perhaps in those little nooks that people in other fortresses shove statues into. It is sure to perk everyone in the fortress to see Ballistas in Ballista-Nooks! And perhaps help the rest of us keep our sanity too.

The Diary of Skadi Kadolmosus
15th Obsidian

People have been going crazy lately! Like, literally chewing on the rug bonkers crazy, not just regular old panicky crazy. I'm starting to get concerned though! I'm not afraid of any old foe, but it's not like I can fight 'going crazy'. What is it anyway? Something in the food? The water? Are we being sabotaged from within! Or is it an evil spirit! How do you kill a spirit anyway? You can't just stab it.

OK, I'm just going to have to stay calm, keep at my work, and *not go crazy*. Gruko says it has something to do with shells, so if I just don't think about shells I should be fine.
xoxoxo, Skadi.

--

She closed her diary and looked back to her patrol route. "whew", she thought. "Just have to not think about shells. Not thinking about shells. Shells. oh crap! I thought about a shell! Oh no! I can't stop thinking about shells! Oh no! No no no! I'm a goner!!!!"

Grukol's Journal, 17th Obsidian, 1053
We have Seven Catapults being built. Seven of them along the walls edge. Vag told me I should build a bunch of Ballistae, or Catapults and place them around the fort to inspire dwarfs not to make things with Shells. I wont say if I took that advise.

27th Obsidian, 1053

"As you know we've started mass deforestation to the south to quench Vag's thirst for Siege Engines."
"Yeah"
"'kay" the two speardwarfette's stand in the doorway.
"There's be reports of a w~" he begins but is cut off short
"Werewolf, yeah yeah yeah. We're outta here" they promptly rush out grabbing their spears which rest against the nearest wall.
---
"Same ol Same ol" Skadi sighs, a sigh thats beginning to be a trademark of hers.
They pass the woodcutter on his way, he explains he was caught off guard. But managed to clip the werewolf with his axe. They thank him for the heads up and start to traverse south again. By the time they got to the noted attack scene they find blood scattered everywhere.
"The woodcutter wasn't harmed..." Jorhind states. That's when they see it. It was passing in and out of consciousness. A huge gaping wound spread across its face.
"Spare it"
Skadi brings her spear down swiftly through its chest.

I'll take a peasant then.
Male, name him Istrian and activate every single job for him. He's just a crazy hyperactive inventor.

Well if you listened to Vagúsholon and built Ballista in Ballista-Nooks, Shell insanity would be curbed!

But Noo, you decided 7 on the wall was enough to spark some logic in fey dwarf heads. Well the shell demands be on your head then! Since you refuse the Ballista nooks, the only way you could possibly get shells is set turtle meat a priority for a dwarven caravan and buying some up, and then placing the shells in an area and forbidding them, so that only moody dwarves can get them. Though since you don't have any dwarves who think in such a manner, if Grukol don't come up with it on his own, then we will see more deaths.
Vagúsholon still insists seeing the logic and engineering of Ballista in Ballasta-nooks would curb such ideas.

But think about the amazing might that would be if only he could make a ballista out of shells...

Thank goodness she is surrounded by the pure logic and Dwarven engineering then, so is immune to such insane thoughts.

13th Granite, 1054
"Ahoy there Elves!" yelled the woodcutter across the now decimated woodlands. The elves had come in from the south and now witnessed first hand the massive deforestation project that the dwarfs had orchestrated. Along the way they had seen a corpse of a Werewolf rotting in the sun, along with countless critters slain and left to bloat from the elements.
"Why are we here again Narena?"
"Shut your mouth you, perhaps we can mend the friendship between we two races and actually get something out of this"
Eliye wasn't quite sure that that would be the result of this excursion.

Grukol's Log, 16th Granite, 1054
The trade with the Elves has gone over rather smoothly this time. From them we got some fancy Elf brew. Along with some Strawberry seeds, for a different kind of food and drink. We traded to them some useless Stone crafts and some halfway demolished clothes from the dead liaison. On a side note, Bomrek the peasant who went Fey, finally snapped. He's wandering around the fort, crying to himself. It's kind of depressing.

OOC: O M F G... Just as the dwarf goes Melancholy. Guess what is brought into the fort? Go on take a guess... I'll give you 3 seconds....3....2.....1....A DAMN TURTLE SHELL!!!!!!111oneoneoneeleven
