Glorious Commander's Log, 13th of Slate
Having another miner is great, since we have tons of digging to do. I took this opportunity to finally give Din Dan Dinderdun a better bedroom, though still not as good as mine. Of course, the Sheriff gets a bedroom too, so he may not end up using it... though, I'd prefer Atollebes to win, since she didn't make the mistake of declaring a vote...

15th of Slate
We now have tons of furniture to make, thanks to this wave of immigration. Since Atollebes is the only one who can make this stuff, and she is the candidate for sheriff I want to win, I'm assigning a peasant to work on masonry. Also, the election is set for mid-summer, so there's still plenty of time.

26th of Slate
It's all zombie elk out there, so I've recruited the hunters. Dwolin is an Axedwarf again (though he's better at wrestling now) and the other hunter is a marksdwarf. Oh, and I've drafted a few animal dissectors as wrestlers.
Though, now I've just discovered that Dwolin's axe is missing! That explains things... I hope we can get an axe soon.

15th of Felsite
Digging and constuction continues as usual, though today, Dwolin became an elite wrestler, and for this, he earned a blue uniform.

18th of Felsite
The Engraver has now been sent to smooth all of the rooms of the ruling people, including Din... however, it should keep the engraver busy. In other news, I just noticed some kobold corpses in the tundra. It looks like my fears about kobolds have some ground. That'll teach Dwolin for thinking I was crazy! Also, there's a pack of zombie muskoxen out there. The wildlife always seems to be constantly changing.

22nd of Felsite
We now have a second elite wrestler, who also wears a blue uniform to show this. Our military is almost good!
Also, did I mention that we don't have any more logs? Yeah.

1st of Hematite
So, "summer" is here, and the elections are just around the corner. There's some peasant sleeping in the future sheriff's room, which is a little creepy, but I'll let him stay for now.

Glorious Commander's Log, 6th of Hematite
Now that there are chests everywhere, people keep "Checking" them, leading to people running around everywhere. It's quite strange. Hell, I've done it a few times.

13th of Hematite
In about 15 days, the sheriff election will take place. Actually, I've changed my mind about who should win, as I'll give the position to Redcoe, so I can have more influence over the justice department.

21st of Hematite
Well, there's one more week until the elections, and I'm getting myself prepared... Also, Segrin grows increasingly angry, as we use the workshops he built during his hiding.

26th of Hematite
One of my loyal slaves has been acting a bit funny... They won't talk to me. Well, the other slaves don't talk to me either, but this one is even more withdrawn from my society. She then proceeded to "claim" a Craftsdwarf's Workshop.

27th of Hematite
She's gone off the deep end. She keeps drawing pictures, some of quarries, some of bars of metal. If she's trying to demand metal bars, she needs to realize that we have none. I hope she recovers from this, or I'll have one less slave...

1st of Malachite
Well, elections are today, and everyone has been lining outside of my office to cast their votes. I'll count them tomorrow, and declare the winner.

2nd of Malachite
Well, I counted the votes, and Din Dan Dunderdun seems to have won... So, I changed the votes, so that Redcoe, formerly in 3rd place, would win. However, to compensate Atollebes for her loss, I gave her the position of anager, so she would be in charge of assigning jobs. After all, her position as a mason and carpenter puts her as the main furniture creator anyway. Din Dan Dunderdun seems to be angry, but it's his fault for declaring an election.

3rd of Malachite
With the war dogs dead, I made the remaining dogs get trained to be war dogs. Some people didn't like that decision, but I did it anyway.

12th of Malachite
The loyal slave keeps standing in that Craftsdwarf workshop, not eating or drinking, and drawing pictures frantically. To stop this, I ordered the Craftsdwarf workshop deconstructed and then reconstructed. The dwarves assigned to the job tried to deconstruct it, but the crazy slave wouldn't move, so I let her be... She has to snap out of the mood some time...

22nd of Malachite
She's still not come out of her mood... I think we may have a problem.

5th of Galena
She's still crazy... keeps demanding those metal bars, which will never come. In other news, Atollebes is now officially recognized as a Mason now, instead of her former position as architect.

12th of Galena
That slave is no longer drawing pictures, but she's gone melancholy... I really do hope she recovers, or I'll only have 3 loyal slaves left... and that won't be good. It's pretty upsetting, since she is moping around where everyone meets, and disturbing people.

24th of Galena
We now have a legendary wrestler, who wears the yellow uniform of champions. Her title is now Champion. Later that day, Dwolin became a champion too, so we now have two champions in the army.

**Image taken midday, so Dwolin isn't a champion yet.

1st of Limestone
Autumn has come, and the melancholy slave is still melancholy. However, I now have the power to raise and lower a bridge in front of the fortress. While it doesn't matter yet, walls are currently being built so that the bridge is the only entrance... and then, I will have the power!

Atollebes's Journal, 2nd of Malachite
I've been given the position of manager... After I lost the election for Sheriff. It seems rather strange to me. I think something funny is going on.

Atollebes's Journal, 22nd of Malachite
I was reviewing the books recently and noticed a strange oddity. Why would lord Splime require more ballots then we had dwarves to be created. Very odd.

Atollebes's Journal, 5th of Galena
I think I know what is going on. The election was rigged. For now, I am keeping this to myself, But just the same I will start calling myself a mason rather then architect, so that Lord Splime doesn't realize what I am capable of. For now, I must show business as usual, must not give any hints away that I am on to him. Just play it calm and cool, convince everyone I am just an ordinary mason with some carpentry skills... No doubt I will be found out eventually, perhaps with my Managerial job, I can hide Segrin's comings and goings enough that he can build a secret retreat for us. Lord Splime won't suspect a thing, since it will be validly issued orders, and the completion verified, even if he is working elsewhere then where the orders really state... If he gathers up some bones, we can setup to convince them all that we are both dead, slain by zombie muskox. My architectural skills, recently hidden, could probably design something that would hide our new home completly... I think I need to talk to Segrin right away, and get ready for the inevitable trouble. He gave me the tools to let Segrin create a truly hidden refuge, I will take advantage of it! Business as usual, I must remember that, Business as usual...

Unfortunately, I haven't had much time today to update, and probably won't have much tomorrow either. I should definitely have an update by the end of Wednesday though.

Dwolin's log, 24th of Galena:

Every time I come to the surface to look outside, I am greeted only by an empty wasteland. It has been a long time since I have seen even the undead outside.. I actually miss them.

I have taken some time to reflect on the teachings of Reg, the Dwarven god of Mercy, and it is these reflections that caused me to place my axe into the community weapon storage room, letting some other dwarf pick it up. When the undead come, surely it is more beneficial to show them the quick mercy of my axe, but when sparring with my fellow dwarves I would not wish any harm come upon them. I have become a champion through my studies, one of two in this fortress.

I know it has been a while, but I ought to mention that Lord Splime, wise as he is behind all of that arrogance and greed, was correct about kobolds sniffing out our hide-away. He was incorrect as to them actually posing a threat. The reptillian scum barely made it within eyesight of our icy tomb before freezing to death. HAR! Grow some fur or wear heavier clothing says I.

I do worry about the approach of goblins. They're much smarter these days. Splime has set up a retractable bridge, and I like that, but I want to talk to him about a merciful way to deter invasions; perhaps cage traps or the like. I'll bring it up to him soon in a... non-confrontational way.

Glorious Commander's Log, 2nd of Limestone
Dwolin came up to me today, to suggest a more humane trap system with cages to capture enemies. In my mind, I took this one step further, and thought of capturing enemies, and possibly pitting them against each other in a massive arena. While Dwolin wasn't as keen on this idea, I set to work, designing my plan for an arena and dungeon complex...

5th of Limestone
I got married to Redcoe today. Of course, this raised some suspicions about her winning the sheriff election, so we skipped any formal celebrations... Also, we saw a zombie polar bear on the horizon, something we've never seen here before. This means that she no longer has to use her lower quality bedroom and dining room, saving space for... special projects.

10th of Limestone
That loyal slave is still acting up... she's tired and thirsty, yet won't drink or sleep. It's a little odd.

17th of Limestone
A caravan was spotted on the horizon, and I don't think we have enough trade goods to get an anvil still... which is fairly depressing. Their guards had to "deal with" some zombie elk on the way in, but the elk didn't do much damage. However, I think we'll manage. I've also been busy working on my dungeon plans. Meanwhile, I assigned Logem to go huntng, and I told Dwolin to go, but he refused! Something about a hero such as him not needing to work... So, it's just one of our markswarves doing the hunting. We fulfilled Dwolin's request for a cage trap too, using the only cage we have.

24th of Limestone
The actual trade occured today, and while we couldn't get an anvil, we managed to get some booze, one or two bars of metal, and tons of logs. It was awesome. However, thanks to clerical error (accidental spacebar press) we didn't order anything for next year, so we may end up without an anvil again!

26th of Limestone
Another person seems to have a fey insanity with making an artifact, this time, a weaver. I hope she doesn't go insane like the other one. She keeps demanding silk cloth, which means I have to go back to that damn caravan again...

1st of Sandstone
That crazy loyal slave has finally died of thirst. It's a shame she's died, so I fired all of my loyal slaves. It's unrealted, I know, but I felt like doing it.

4th of Sandstone
I was about to trade, but then I felt like eating. Apparently, someone else went to trade for the silk cloth. They also got an anvil, which is a bit embarassing for me, since I couldn't get one. It turns out that it was Mesaur who did this work, and I thought of making him the broker, but decided not to, since it would mean I would have barely any leadership position.

7th of Sandstone
Finally, after much gathering of silk cloth, the weaver went to work on a mysterious construction.

10th of Sandstone
The weaver finally finished her work, a silk headscarf. While it was somewhat ridiculous, it is worth 10,000 coin, and made her a legendary weaver.

27th of Sandstone
The caravan left a while back, and now, progress on the arena and dungeons is going well. The arena is carved out, and the chambes below are being worked on. I will not disclose much info, but will show the regular view of the arena:

3rd of Timber
One of our cooks has given birth to a girl, making the baby the first baby born in Coldpalace. The baby is the daughter of Sandono, as well. It's just a shame that our first death came before the first birth.

1st of Moonstone
Unfortunately, unlike last year, no immigrants have come, so we are still at 36 people. However, it could be worse.

BTW, the latest DFMA map is here.

----

Glorious Commander's Log, 1st of Moonstone
Winter has hit, and it's as cold as ever. However, there is a fresh supply of meat outside, so I have sent the only hunter that will actually work to go out there and get us some fresh meat.

7th of Moonstone
The dungeon passages are being constructed to create a huge labyrinth, which will confuse anyone who tries to enter the place.

12th of Moonstone
We have a new legendary wrestler today, and Din Dan and Segrin are now legendary miners.

22nd of Moonstone
I decided to have a look at the silk scarf the weaver made last month, and found it to be a bit... odd. It's called Kedag Ingul Kathil, or "Feddaubs the Seasons of Wetting". It's made of cave spider silk, has hanging rings of cave spider silk, and menaces with spikes of cave spider silk. On it is an image of a cave spider silk headscarf, in cave spider silk. Wow.

10th of Opal
Mesaur seems to have withdrawn from society, in the same way my old loyal slave did... I truly hope that he will be alright, as I won't have as much digging power for my dungeon. He's claimed the mason's workshop in Segrin's old hideout.
Also, we have a new baby girl in this fortress. Msaur is the father, so I really really hope he comes through now.

11th of Opal
Another baby! This time, a boy. He is the son of an engraver and a cheese maker.
Also today, Mesaur began a construction... Using the gold nuggets he found in the gold vein near Segrin's old hideout. At least it wasn't my precious platinum nuggets. Speaking of those, I've ordered those platinum nuggets to be smelted into platinum bars.

12th of Opal
I may just be in a bad mood today, but I'm ordering the construction of an execution chamber. This is not for the regular justice system, just for my own pleasure. It will execute via drowning.

14th of Opal
Mesaur has finished his work, a stone hatch cover. I might just use it for the entrance to my dungeon... It also has a picture of a dwarf on it, which I only assume is me. The hatch cover is 38400 coin's worth, which puts our created wealth at 87204.

6th of Obsidian
Yet another wrestling champion. Also, there's some zombie wolves out on the horizon, not something you see everyday.

1st of Granite, 1053
With another year, I have ordered a new map to be made. (See link at the top of the post) I've assigned Din Dan Dunderdun to the task, to ensure he does not think about the fact that Redcoe became sheriff over him. I have also ordered him to get a picture of the fortress made:

**The outside texture is sand, though don't worry, it's still the tundra.

Hey, I'll take the Engraver that just had the kid
Name: Iresh (I think he was male) If the engraver is female however Xantara.
Profession: Engraver/(Farmer if add-on-able)

Background:
The engraver came to Coldpalace in search of a better way of life, not knowing that the head honcho was a bastard.  At some point the engraver realizing that they had entered a Tundra fortress wanted to make a major Ice sculpture of their family.

(On a side note:  What Graphics set is that?)

Atollebes's Thoughts, 12th of Opal
It's getting worse, with the new order. Something only done in the worst of the mountainhomes, an execution chamber! I must go speak to Segrin soon, and see if he is up for my plan. If he is, we won't have to worry about insane leaders killing us at a whim! I have burned all my previous journals, and replaced them with "loyalist" journals, stating the greatness of Lord Splime. Perhaps someday when it is safer I will attempt to reconstruct them, but for now, I must stay safe.

If Kagus agrees, I'd like to sneak him out to the southeast corner of the map and dig a small entryway there. Here it is, level by level through the breaching of the aquifer, plus the plan as it should go.

L9
The entire secondary fortress, perhaps with a couple dozen logs that were "lost" in the construction of the supports for the platform above (see below)

When it is constructed, a new construction should be begun. The "Seal". On top of the construction in level 13, a stairway should be built going up. This stairway should go up to level 17. On the edges of the pit on level 15, Supports should be constructed. The Supports should be linked to a lever on level 9 somewhere. A platform should be built on level 17 covering the entire pit, with a hatch built over the stairs that only , turning it into inside and melting the ice into water. A hatch should be built on the stairs of level 10, with a backup door in level 9 in case everything goes wrong. The supports on level 10 should also be linked with a lever on level 9.
Once the platform is built, the stairs leading up to it from the center of the pit should be removed, after Atollebes, Segrin, and anyone recruited in part 2 get down there with a renewable system setup.
At that point, the level 10 supports are released, collapsing the wall holding the water out of that area. Once the area is filled with water, the top platform is dropped. The top platform should have some bones brought out by Atollebes in the final phase on top of it, so it looks like the entire unstable thing collapsed, killing all the dwarves "Working" on it. This will create a fortress trapped with a nasty water level, making it difficult to get to the "Second Fort" hidden below. One of the members for every 10 down there there should become the "Guard" of the hidden fortress (with one considered the hidden sheriff). which means a small jail somewhere down there as well. Segrin should then be allowed an entire section of that hidden fortress to become his "secret lair", with the rest of the dwarves centered around a rather small area. Expansion should be very limited, and replaced with rock wall constructs of generally the same type if abandoned to "stay hidden".

Part 2
The whole story of it's creation should be Thus-
Atollebes attempts to recruit Segrin for her exodus of the future insanity of the noble. If he accepts, she brings a crazy idea of a zombie muskox fightin platform built on rickety supports to "Deal" with dissenter dwarves, and asks for a "list" of dwarves that the Glorious commander wishes to "disappear". She will constantly act like the "tool" of the Glorious Commander, but will stop short of killing anyone, instead attempting to convince Lord Splime that if they die in a horrible "Accident", then if some secret infiltrator will not bring down further trouble from mountainhomes instead, and the muskox platform is the perfect setting for the accident, as soon as she has it built and convincing enough, all the dissent will be quelled. Maybe if she's lucky, she will save some.

She will keep the underportion completly secret from everyone except Segrin. The other dissenters get stationed there in rotating shifts until it's done. When it is done, She orders all the dissenters to the platform and leaves a note saying it will be done. A logbook will be put into the bones stating that "They attacked me, but before I die, I will take them all out, Hail Glorious Leader Lord Splime! -Atollebes". The rubble on top of the ice should convince anyone that all the dissenters were lost, along with the "loyal" manager (as such, her position of manager should be changed to someone else at this point)

(Edit: Fixed the Word Wrap Thread Warp from my code)
