---Diary of Astesh Morulmegid
--26th Slate, 1054
-More migrants! To be specific, we have gained:
5 Peasants
1 Dyer
2 Fisherdwarves
1 Fish Dissector
1 Planter
1 Weaver
2 Jewelers
1 Metalsmith
1 Siege Engineer
1 Soaper
1 Ranger
1 Trapper
1 Potash Maker
1 Fishery Worker
2 Children
And also 2 kittens, 1 donkey, 1 mule and 2 horses.
We're now 62 dwarves in a place called Swordgrave. Lovely. There are some good news though. By law, we can now support a mayor and a fortress guard! I was
obviously chosen as the mayor, and Rith, our Sheriff, is now the of the
fortress guard.
Rith now wants two more restraints. I suppose I'll humour her and do so. She
also wants six fortress guards, but I don't think we can spare that many. I
suppose it's excusable, since her concern is the safety of the village first
and foremost and not it's prosperity.
A lot of the peasants will have to learn new professions, I'm afraid. Sadly,
we don't really need two potash makers in this village. We're a village now.
But we'll be building a few workshops soon, by the look of it.
--9th Felsite, 1054
-Things have been busy. Far too many things to dig than there are diggers, far too many items to make than there are masons, etc. I, personally, have been
practicing some wrestling lately. I have little skill, but all of that pushing
paper around was quite useful; I am possibly the strongest dwarf in this
village.
Anyway, I think we should start making some iron soon. It's not steel, but it
will be a show of our wealth. Besides, we need iron to make steel.
OOC: First mandate ever: iron. I think we can manage that.
--12th Felsite, 1054
-We have some iron now, as well as what seems to be an increasing amount of
foodstuffs.
--17th Felsite, 1054
-Work on our defensive walls continue nicely. Although, until we have
ballistae, catapults and marksdwarves, they won't serve any other purpose than
be imposing and impressive. But they're already somewhat imposing and
impressive, so that's good.
--18th Felsite, 1054
-I've decided that, in light of our need for marksdwarves, we will not export
any crossbows what-so-EVER.
OOC: Second mandate; ban on exporting crossbows.
--24th Felsite, 1054
-I should probably note that our weaver has been running outside to gather
cave spider silk webs. I've decided to make the area where they live a bit
more defensible and accessible with a moat and tunnel. Lather on, I'll expand
it and build a wall, I suppose.
--1st Hematite, 1054
-Nothing of note has been happening, except we pulled the statue garden down
temporarily in order to smooth the floor the statues were on.
We're expecting the human caravan to arrive in a few days. If we did this
correctly, then the road will enable their wagons to get to here with minimal
problems. I've never actually seen how much a human merchant wagon contains,
but it's probably a lot... THIS. WILL. BE. GOOD.
--6th Hematite, 1054
-The web tunnel is pretty much complete. The wall is progressing. And I've
been doing some stonecrafting when I am not needed for administrative tasks.
--11th Hematite, 1054
-The miners have finally got around to dig out the additional jail cells, adn
we've got some electrum chains being forged.
In other, semi-related news, Alath Steelhatchet may not be able to beat me in
arm-wrestling, but he can sure outrun me. He could probably outrun an Elf.
OOC: Seriously, he speeds around the fortress. Perfectly Agile.
--12th Hematite, 1054
-I must admit, Alath is also somewhat creepy. Most of his masterworks are of
death and decay; he just made one recently depicting a dead dwarf down to the
last detail. It's impressive, but nevertheless creepy.
In other, merrier news, the human caravan has arrived. The road seems to be
working. With them comes a merchant baron, but for some reason he's coming
from a completely different direction. Stupid humans.
But now I will be able to see just how much those fabled wagons can carry!
--14th Hematite, 1054
-The merchants have arrived. The human will arrive later today, or early
tomorrow, probably.
Our main dining hall has been expanded and is being furnished with three
additional tables and thrones.
--15th Hematite, 1054
-The merchant baron and the non-wagon merchants trailing the wagons have
arrived as well.
Also, I should have mentioned this earlier. We've got a Fishery, Butcher's
Shop and a Siege Workshop up and running, one Tanner's Shop designated and are
preparing to put up two ballistae in their emplacement. They're not of high
quality, but they'll do in a pinch.
--16th Hematite, 1054
-It seems the human guards took care of some goblin or the other. I wasn't
even notified.
--17th Hematite, 1054
-Another goblin thief. He's probably trying to leg it, but he's rather short
of them at the moment. You see, most people have one foot shorter than the
other. He just has a very pronounced case of that; it's so pronounced that he
doesn't even have a left foot!
Also, there's another goblin corpse in one of the corridors. Why was I only
notified about the one that survived a trap when the was out of the moat?
--18th Hematite, 1054
-I've started negotiations with the humans' merchant baron.
--19th Hematite, 1054
-Negotiations progress.
Also, our wrestlers wrestled(as implied by their name) the goblin to death. He
did take a surprisingly large amount of injuries before dying, but he died
anyway.
--21st Hematite, 1054
-Negotiations FINISHED. Apparently, they really need new threads. They're
willing to pay double for that. The also want idols and earrings. Oh, and
fish.
--1st Malachite, 1054
-Again! A second wave of migrants, again! I'd have deja vu if I knew what it
meant, I'm certain!
Anyway, the list is as follows:
1 Peasant(Only one?!)
1 Wood Burner(Good, the one we have is a lazy bastard.)
1 Milker(We do need more fortress guards according to Rith...)
1 Mechanic(Some relief for Alath, I suppose.)
1 Potash Maker(Siege operation, anyone?)
1 Weaponsmith(Welcome!)
1 Fisherdwarf(You are, literally, a third wheel. We don't need a tricycle.)
2 Children
Also, 1 mule, 1 donkey and 1 kitten.
This was a smaller wave, but still, we are now 71 dwarves strong.
--3rd Malachite, 1054
-Stukos Libasholin, a peasant training up to become a tanner, has started
acting... Well, quite normally, but not his kind of normal. It's like he's
become a different person. This different person, however, quickly started
acting like a dwarf in one of those strange moods, like the late Reg
Earthenportal or Erith Sandalpick.
I dread to think what he's going to do... And what'll happen if he fails...
--4th Malachite, 1054
-Oh dear. Rith reports him just hanging around doing nothing, like he's
waiting for something, just like Reg Earthenportal did. Let's just hope he's
waiting for our Leather Works to be built...
On the plus side, I finally managed to finalize our rather large deal with the
humans. It involves many bins of goods from both parties, and in the case of
the humans they give us bags and barrels as well. We also have some
miscellaneous other things.
--9th Malachite, 1054
-I've received reports that Stukos has moved from the zoo and down to the
workshop level, where he promptly took over the newly constructed Leather
Works. He is now gathering materials like the others did...
--10th Malachite, 1054
-Unsurprisingly, he's been collecting leather. So far, he's got two muskoxen's
and one horse's worth of leather. He also has our only pig iron bars and some
obsidian. He's muttering about leather, metal bars, stone, cloth and a shell
... I must do something, I suppose. I'll have some more pig iron made, some
cloth woven and some stone mined, but that's all. I'll also see if some
hauling around will help...
--13th Malachite, 1054
-I've noticed that he constantly mutters about what Lelgasgathilodur Aban
needs, not what he needs. No progress has been made in that, I'm afraid.
--16th Malachite, 1054
-The human merchants are finally off. Stukos Axetong has acquired some cave
spider silk cloth.
--22nd Malachite, 1054
-Stukos continues muttering about metal, yet he doesn't want pig iron. He
mutters about cloth, but doesn't want pig tail, rope reed or cave spider silk cloth. He wants rock, but not microcline, alunite, cobaltite nor obsidian. He
already has some muskox leather, more muskox leather, horse leather, pig iron
bars, obsidian, cave spider silk cloth and pig tail cloth.
--23rd Malachite, 1054
-Our second death here happened today. Iden Domasikud, Cheese Maker, was
crushed by a drawbridge. Odd, hmm? But not a sword. There isn't even a corpse.
--26th Malachite, 1054
-Still no progress made. I am starting to fear he Stukos will not complete his
work...
