Please change those pictures into links, I put pride in always reading everything whit no exceptions on this forum but there are so many good stories and the stretched screen makes it incredibly annoying. It's even better whit no screenshots at all.

Links are up!

---Diary of Astesh Morulmegid
--26th Slate, 1054
-More migrants! To be specific, we have gained:
5 Peasants
1 Dyer
2 Fisherdwarves
1 Fish Dissector
1 Planter
1 Weaver
2 Jewelers
1 Metalsmith
1 Siege Engineer
1 Soaper
1 Ranger
1 Trapper
1 Potash Maker
1 Fishery Worker

2 Children

And also 2 kittens, 1 donkey, 1 mule and 2 horses.
We're now 62 dwarves in a place called Swordgrave. Lovely. There are some good news though. By law, we can now support a mayor and a fortress guard! I was
obviously chosen as the mayor, and Rith, our Sheriff, is now the of the
fortress guard.

Rith now wants two more restraints. I suppose I'll humour her and do so. She
also wants six fortress guards, but I don't think we can spare that many. I
suppose it's excusable, since her concern is the safety of the village first
and foremost and not it's prosperity.

A lot of the peasants will have to learn new professions, I'm afraid. Sadly,
we don't really need two potash makers in this village. We're a village now.

But we'll be building a few workshops soon, by the look of it.

--9th Felsite, 1054
-Things have been busy. Far too many things to dig than there are diggers, far too many items to make than there are masons, etc. I, personally, have been
practicing some wrestling lately. I have little skill, but all of that pushing
paper around was quite useful; I am possibly the strongest dwarf in this
village.

Anyway, I think we should start making some iron soon. It's not steel, but it
will be a show of our wealth. Besides, we need iron to make steel.

OOC: First mandate ever: iron. I think we can manage that.

--12th Felsite, 1054
-We have some iron now, as well as what seems to be an increasing amount of
foodstuffs.

--17th Felsite, 1054
-Work on our defensive walls continue nicely. Although, until we have
ballistae, catapults and marksdwarves, they won't serve any other purpose than
be imposing and impressive. But they're already somewhat imposing and
impressive, so that's good.

--18th Felsite, 1054
-I've decided that, in light of our need for marksdwarves, we will not export
any crossbows what-so-EVER.

OOC: Second mandate; ban on exporting crossbows.

--24th Felsite, 1054
-I should probably note that our weaver has been running outside to gather
cave spider silk webs. I've decided to make the area where they live a bit
more defensible and accessible with a moat and tunnel. Lather on, I'll expand
it and build a wall, I suppose.

--1st Hematite, 1054
-Nothing of note has been happening, except we pulled the statue garden down
temporarily in order to smooth the floor the statues were on.

We're expecting the human caravan to arrive in a few days. If we did this
correctly, then the road will enable their wagons to get to here with minimal
problems. I've never actually seen how much a human merchant wagon contains,
but it's probably a lot... THIS. WILL. BE. GOOD.

--6th Hematite, 1054
-The web tunnel is pretty much complete. The wall is progressing. And I've
been doing some stonecrafting when I am not needed for administrative tasks.

--11th Hematite, 1054
-The miners have finally got around to dig out the additional jail cells, adn
we've got some electrum chains being forged.

In other, semi-related news, Alath Steelhatchet may not be able to beat me in
arm-wrestling, but he can sure outrun me. He could probably outrun an Elf.

OOC: Seriously, he speeds around the fortress. Perfectly Agile.

--12th Hematite, 1054
-I must admit, Alath is also somewhat creepy. Most of his masterworks are of
death and decay; he just made one recently depicting a dead dwarf down to the
last detail. It's impressive, but nevertheless creepy.
In other, merrier news, the human caravan has arrived. The road seems to be
working. With them comes a merchant baron, but for some reason he's coming
from a completely different direction. Stupid humans.

But now I will be able to see just how much those fabled wagons can carry!

--14th Hematite, 1054
-The merchants have arrived. The human will arrive later today, or early
tomorrow, probably.

Our main dining hall has been expanded and is being furnished with three
additional tables and thrones.

--15th Hematite, 1054
-The merchant baron and the non-wagon merchants trailing the wagons have
arrived as well.

Also, I should have mentioned this earlier. We've got a Fishery, Butcher's
Shop and a Siege Workshop up and running, one Tanner's Shop designated and are
preparing to put up two ballistae in their emplacement. They're not of high
quality, but they'll do in a pinch.

--16th Hematite, 1054
-It seems the human guards took care of some goblin or the other. I wasn't
even notified.

--17th Hematite, 1054
-Another goblin thief. He's probably trying to leg it, but he's rather short
of them at the moment. You see, most people have one foot shorter than the
other. He just has a very pronounced case of that; it's so pronounced that he
doesn't even have a left foot!

Also, there's another goblin corpse in one of the corridors. Why was I only
notified about the one that survived a trap when the was out of the moat?

--18th Hematite, 1054
-I've started negotiations with the humans' merchant baron.

--19th Hematite, 1054
-Negotiations progress.

Also, our wrestlers wrestled(as implied by their name) the goblin to death. He
did take a surprisingly large amount of injuries before dying, but he died
anyway.

--21st Hematite, 1054
-Negotiations FINISHED. Apparently, they really need new threads. They're
willing to pay double for that. The also want idols and earrings. Oh, and
fish.

--1st Malachite, 1054
-Again! A second wave of migrants, again! I'd have deja vu if I knew what it
meant, I'm certain!

Anyway, the list is as follows:

1 Peasant(Only one?!)
1 Wood Burner(Good, the one we have is a lazy bastard.)
1 Milker(We do need more fortress guards according to Rith...)
1 Mechanic(Some relief for Alath, I suppose.)
1 Potash Maker(Siege operation, anyone?)
1 Weaponsmith(Welcome!)
1 Fisherdwarf(You are, literally, a third wheel. We don't need a tricycle.)
2 Children

Also, 1 mule, 1 donkey and 1 kitten.

This was a smaller wave, but still, we are now 71 dwarves strong.

--3rd Malachite, 1054
-Stukos Libasholin, a peasant training up to become a tanner, has started
acting... Well, quite normally, but not his kind of normal. It's like he's
become a different person. This different person, however, quickly started
acting like a dwarf in one of those strange moods, like the late Reg
Earthenportal or Erith Sandalpick.

I dread to think what he's going to do... And what'll happen if he fails...

--4th Malachite, 1054
-Oh dear. Rith reports him just hanging around doing nothing, like he's
waiting for something, just like Reg Earthenportal did. Let's just hope he's
waiting for our Leather Works to be built...

On the plus side, I finally managed to finalize our rather large deal with the
humans. It involves many bins of goods from both parties, and in the case of
the humans they give us bags and barrels as well. We also have some
miscellaneous other things.

--9th Malachite, 1054
-I've received reports that Stukos has moved from the zoo and down to the
workshop level, where he promptly took over the newly constructed Leather
Works. He is now gathering materials like the others did...

--10th Malachite, 1054
-Unsurprisingly, he's been collecting leather. So far, he's got two muskoxen's
and one horse's worth of leather. He also has our only pig iron bars and some
obsidian. He's muttering about leather, metal bars, stone, cloth and a shell
... I must do something, I suppose. I'll have some more pig iron made, some
cloth woven and some stone mined, but that's all. I'll also see if some
hauling around will help...

--13th Malachite, 1054
-I've noticed that he constantly mutters about what Lelgasgathilodur Aban
needs, not what he needs. No progress has been made in that, I'm afraid.

--16th Malachite, 1054
-The human merchants are finally off. Stukos Axetong has acquired some cave
spider silk cloth.

--22nd Malachite, 1054
-Stukos continues muttering about metal, yet he doesn't want pig iron. He
mutters about cloth, but doesn't want pig tail, rope reed or cave spider silk cloth. He wants rock, but not microcline, alunite, cobaltite nor obsidian. He
already has some muskox leather, more muskox leather, horse leather, pig iron
bars, obsidian, cave spider silk cloth and pig tail cloth.

--23rd Malachite, 1054
-Our second death here happened today. Iden Domasikud, Cheese Maker, was
crushed by a drawbridge. Odd, hmm? But not a sword. There isn't even a corpse.

--26th Malachite, 1054
-Still no progress made. I am starting to fear he Stukos will not complete his
work...

Wait a sec... in your first entry, you referenced PORTAL! OK, but seriously, yer doing very good with the storytelling.

Yes, I do lots of references.

---Diary of Astesh Morulmegid
--2nd Galena, 1054
-He does not want any of the leather we bought from the human merchants, and I am starting to despair somewhat...

--11th Galena, 1054
-We're diggin out a tetrahedrite vein right now. Also, PANIC! WE ARE RUNNING OUT OF BOOZE! INFINTELY REPEATING MAKE BOOZE ORDER, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY!

--13th Galena, 1054
-Oh! What joy! He was muttering about items he already had! When he acquired a shell, he set about to build whatever he has in his mind. I await the resutls. At this stage, I don't think there's much chance of insanity besides the one he currently has.

--17th Galena, 1054
-We have some booze. More than a while ago, at least. But still. Heh, still. But anyway, it's not enough.

In other equally important news, Stukos Axetongs has finished his work. It is...

Lelgasgathilodur Aban, or The Lush Sensual Root of Constructing, a Muskox Leather Robe. It is encrusted with Obsidian, studded with Pig Iron, decorated with Muskox Leather and encircled with bands of Turtle Shell, as well as being adorned with Cave Spider Silk rings and menacing somehow with spikes of Muskox Leather. There are also two images on it. One, in Horse Leather, is of elves speaking with dwarves. The other is in Pig Tail and is of labouring dwarves.

All in all, it's worth 52800¤.

No, I'm not out of my mind. I know enough to know what it's worth.

I also realize the futility of trying to get it away from him. Oddly enough, he has no memories of making it, and no experience either, but he is nevertheless fiercely possessive of it. Possibly he was possessed by the spirit of a dead dwarf that longed to create this item, yet never could?

The world may never know.

--18th Galena, 1054
-We've cleared out the tetrahedrite vein. It's a pretty decent kind of ore, all in all.

IT'S THE THREAD THAT WOULDN'T DIE!

I was just experimenting a bit and couldn't play at the same time, actually.

---Diary of Astesh Pageslid
--20th Galena, 1054
-According to my newest estimates, Stukos' creation has catapulted us up to 378332¤ monies.

That makes me a Hoardmaster! And we're only 70 dwarves!

OOC:Seriously, that's rather weird. I don't even have a baron yet.

--1st Limestone, 1054
-It is autumn. The caravan should come soon.

--3rd Limestone, 1054
-I must say, my workshop has become rather cluttered. It's slowing me down.

OOC: It really is cluttered. She's rather skilled at stonecrafting, although not legendary yet, so she's mostly just slowed down if she has to travel a long way to fetch something.

--10th Limestone, 1054
-I've decided to try to make an aqueduct in order to ferry our water. I have no idea if it'll work.

OOC: It's our first crazy engineering project! Also my first use of machinery!

--16th Limesonte, 1054
-Ever noticed how slow thing stend to happen sometimes, and then suddenly everything is happening at once? Yeah, we're in a slow phase right now. Hopefully something'll happen when the caravan comes.

OOC: Seriously, that's how it is. Also, I know Limestone is misspelled there.

--17th Limestone, 1054
-Speaking of merchants, here they come now, along with the liaison, now a village liaison. It gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside to think that. Village. I wonder what we'll be next year? I also wonder what we should request with the next caravan...

--20th Limestone, 1054
-Thieves! Those annoying kobolds... Constantly disrupting all our efforts wherever they are. Grah!

However, the merchants have arrived, and I am about to start negotiations with the liaison now.

--21st Limestone, 1054
-Another kobold thief appeared. Right next to Alath Delerkador. Alath has no experience in wrestling, but within moments he had badly mangled most of the thief with sheer strength.

--26th Limestone, 1054
-We bought anything that might have the slightest use from the caravan. That's nearly the entire caravan, in case you're wondering.

We don't need it, but since we can, we did.

--4th Sandstone, 1054
-I've finally completed the agreement for this year. No more liaison looming over me everywhere! Wheee!

For some reason, they really want some ashes.

OOC: Seriously, they want ashes. They're willing to pay double the normal price, too.

--5th Sandstone, 1054
-Again! This time, it's Stodir Numadstod, a friend of mine, and she has withdrawn from society. She barely talks, even to me! I fear she is afflicted by this mixed blessing of artifact-creating frenzy, and can only hope she finds what he wants, lest she goes insane...

She has claimed the workshop she used so often now...

Took some logs...

And a shell...

--6th Sandstone, 1054
-Now she's taken some cave spider silk cloth...

And an obsidian block, for some reason...

And now she's started building... Whatever it is. I suppose I'll just wait, then. Wait until it's complete.

--10th Sandstone, 1054
-Remember when, back in 6th Granite, Stodir created a masterwork barrel?

Yeah, her big artefact is another barrel. How'd you guess?

Anyway, I feel I should note it's features down, for it is nevertheless a quite extraordinary barrel(that is, it is out of the oridnary, or not like the other barrels; a non-comformist barrel one might say, although since barrels are not sentient it really doesn't fit):

It is called Ishlumshasad, or Nutmusics. An apt name, because it's creator must be a little nuts. It's worth 10800¤. It's a maple barrel, decorated with cave spider silk and encircled with additional bands of maple. It also menaces with obsidian spikes(that is why she wanted the obsidian block, because she intended to carve it into a bunch of spikes, although why she wanted to put spikes on it I have no idea, especially with how she's hugging so closely to herself at all times and all that, I mean, she is most likely to stab herself rather than would-be thieves, although I must admit that everybody makes mistakes sometimes, and anyway the spikes do make it more valuable and it's not nearly as weird as Muskox Leather spikes, which I still don't understand how Stukos made). There are two images on the barrel, one in maple which is of labouring dwarves, and the other is engraved on a turtle shell and is of dwarves speaking with other dwarves.

All in all, it could have been worse. And at least Stodir remembers what she did.

--13th Sandstone, 1054
-Fascinating how the barracks always seem to be covered in various articles of clothing. They say it's just because of their sparring, but still... Why would their clothes fly off when they're wrestling?

OOC: It's mostly mittens actually.

--16th Sandstone, 1054
-The caravan has gone away, loaded with ju- er, trade goods, and more importantly, away with that creepy creepy liaison.

----------
========
----------

So, I obviously don't intend to stop until my fortress is over, so live with it. Maybe post a comment if you're reading this.

Seriously, most of the posts here are by me. I know this story isn't as awesome as Nist Akath, but still.

Also, perhaps you should recall that if you want to "sponsor" or "claim" a dwarf, you can do that.

Kae is doing fine. We're a bit short on drinks at the moment, but it'll be remedied soon(I hope), by a repeat brew order. Last time he stopped because he ran out of barrels.

---Diary of Astesh Pageslid
--21st Sandstone, 1054
-I've noticed that, despite our best efforts, we do not have enough bedrooms. This will hopefully be remedied soon.

--24th Sandstone, 1054
-I completely forgot to mention this, but we have some steel production underway already. To make sure nothing interrupts this, I have imposed a ban on all export of iron items.

OOC: Yup, mandated a ban on all iron export.

--1st Timber, 1054
-With winter soon upon us, I've decided that I and Rith should get some crossbow practice in. Eventually we'll go back to our regular jobs, but I think it's important that I wont' be just a burden in the case of a full-scale attack.

--18th Timber, 1054
-Things progress. We've got more beds, barrels and bins, the aqueduct is coming along, and so on.

--22nd Timber, 1054
-Things progress. About nothing important has happened, though. I'm going to stop marksdwarf practice for a while and go back to stonecrafting.

--1st Moonstone, 1054
-Winter has officially begun. Not that we notice around here, of course. I've ordered Alath to begin engraving my office a bit more. Soon, only the royal throne room back in the Mountainhome will be grander! Furthermore, we're building more archery ranges and I'll probably get Alath on engraving the grand dining hall soon.

--2nd Moonstone, 1054
-Alath has already finished completely engraving every surface of my office. It's fit for royalty by now; I suppose I'm being rather arrogant with it.

In other news, Alath is now engraving the dining hall, and one item in particular caught my attention: The Royal Fatal Menace". It's an image of prickle berries. For some reason, he believes they're a danger. Odd, but not so much as an artifact barrel.

OOC: Alath's engraving is not the only royal thing around. Astesh has a royal throne room by now.

--4th Moonstone, 1054
-Today, we welcome another dwarf to our workforce! Mosus Rutodetur has grown to an adult. He will find work here, I'm sure of it.

As for Alath, he has been making steady progress. When I came into the dinging hall recently, it looked like some other room! I still can't believe his speed and skill at doing these engravings! One of his engravings is of three three-pointed stars. By Armok's left foot, that's symbolic! I don't know what it's symbolic of, of course, but still. It's symbolic!

--6th Moonstone, 1054
-Alath has finished already! I am amazed!

Also, I forgot to request more logs to be cut down. I'm paying for it now, in the form of inadequate resources.

OOC: Yes, I forgot to continue chopping down logs...

--20th Moonstone, 1054
-I'm afraid I haven't written anything additional was that I was too busy being bored. The sheer boredom meant I had to mention that we struck microcline where we were digging out future bedrooms. Now we'll have to do even more rewalling...

--24th Moonstone, 1054
-We have our first siege operator! Stukos Findertrade is the first citizen to bear the mantle, but hopefully not the last one!

--4th Opal, 1054
-Another new job title. This time, it's Vabok Atirgutid, who is now a miner.

Also, nothing important has been happening of late, in case you didn't notice.

--6th Opal, 1054
-How odd, it would appear yet another dwarf has been taken by a strange mood. Mafol Rithodok has been taken by what I've begun calling a "secretive mood". It is characterized by unwillingness to speak and avoidance of all dwarven contact, as if the subject was afraid to divulge some great secret. He was just sleeping and then suddenly, he woke up and sped away. I met him on my way to my own bedroom, and recognized the symptoms instantly. I can only hope he manages to finish his artifact before succumbing to madness. Unsurprisingly, considering his profession, he has claimed his bowyer's workshop.

Also, we struck some more microcline. I'm beginning to hate that colour...

--8th Opal, 1054
-Mafol's been hoarding logs. No big surprise there, crossbows have often been made out of wood. She also has some bones, which is another common choice for crossbows. What is odd is the obsidian, although I can hardly object to it. It's a big part of this fortress. Once she got all this, she begun making whatever it is. I hope it's a crossbow, because boy oh boy, do I like crossbows!

OOC: Seriously. Her preferences page states that she likes crossbows.

--13th Opal, 1054
-Mafol has finished her construction! It's a crossbow, too! Crossy-bow! Crossy-bow! Jay!

But I digress. I'm writing in this diary the facts about Anilanzishomer, the glorious alchemical greenessses. The name is much nicer in traditional, don't you think? Anyway, it's an alder crossbow, only worth about 8400¤, but still, it's a crossy-bow! Er, anyway, it's encrusted with obsidian, and spiked with chestnut spikes. As always, there are two images on it. The funny thing is, this artifact seems to be dedicated to artifacts; one is about the creation of Ishlumshasad the maple barrel, the other about the creation of Thestarfubeg the oaken idol. They are made with alder and turtle bone respectively.

Furthermore, Mafol has gained extreme skill with his undertaking; I am going to have him make a bunch of crossbows and we'll see if they won't be of amazing quality too.

Furthermore, I should note that all the greatest dwarves of the village are organized in an ad-hoc squad called "The Granite Hairs". The only exemption is me and Rith, who are in our seperate squad, "The Blazes of Trading".

--16th Opal, 1054

I'm liking this thread so far. Two things though. First, can you put up a map? Second, Swordgraves is a very -good- omen. Burying a sword is symbolic of peace, just like burying a hatchet.

I'll take a dwarf. If you have a weaver, that would be nice.

I'd post a map, but I tried it once before and it was too big. Too many z levels, you see. I couldn't be bothered to host it on my own server because that would've taken a minute or two in addition to what I had already done, but eh, if you really want I can.

Also, is the dwarf supposed to be named "Grek", Grek? Or something else? And I do have a weaver.

I'll probably post more today. I hope Mlittle is right.
