Steelbanner (Community Fortress)
« on: May 11, 2008, 12:45:00 am »

Another community fortress! The story will start after we have the right number of people. There are six spots open, including the leader. The one telling the story will be the record keeper, Kate. So choose your gender, there are three available of each. And choose your profession. The number of points you can spend is 36 in professions/items. Not much, but we are taking an anvil.

The group has a goal: produce metalcrafts! The group will be doing their best to mine out the resources of this dangerous mountain.

The Finger of Chunks? What a lovely name for an area.

I'll take a dwarven woman called Cërå, please, mason and engraver in equal proportions. Engraving's always fun! It doesn't work towards the metalcrafting goal that much, but you could always put her behind a forge if you needed to.

I'll take a male dwarf called Maggarg, if I may.
Some kind of miner or metalcrafter.

Ok. One female dwarf remaining!
I'm sorry I couldn't fit in the boots for you Omath, but I wouldn't worry. We should have a full suit for you shortly. =)

Seeds, turtle meat, picks, and the axe were in the eq already.

Background:
Din Dun Danderdin, the leader of our group found the Finger of Chunks to be completely untapped as a resource. Six of the seven of us were chosen by Din Dun himself. Kira only came at the request of Cërå. Omath and Kira's animosity toward each other has become obvious during trip. Omath is the only one with military experience. As such he will be indispensable in the defense of our mines.

Record of Steelbanner;
1st of Granite,

We have arrived at the site. Our leader Din Dun started giving orders the second we stopped. We were told to dig down to hit the loam we saw on the way in. By we I mean, of course, Maggarg and Kira. They are our only two trained miners. Maggarg is also our metalsmith. These two will be invaluable in the coming years.

Moria is happy to see fertile underground soil. We will be self sufficient in no time thanks to her expertise. Cërå, our mason, will have no end to her work once we hit rock.

As soon as a place is dug the rest of us will begin moving the food inside. That is all to report for now. With any luck we will have a functional base of operations by the end of the month.

Record of Steelbanner,
12th of Felsite,

Summer is nearly upon us as we have finished digging out the basics. The workshops are up and operational. The food is stored and Omath is preparing beds for the last of us still without. The rooms have been dug out, and the farm has been planted. We have hit a vein of magnetite as well. Looks like Din Dun knew what he was doing when he picked this place.

We should have some steel produced soon. The first shipment out will be be expected this autumn so we must work fast. This area, supposedly hostile area has yet to require Omath to use his axe for anything but cutting down trees.

Now I must get back to my work, there is a lot of counting to be done.

Record of Steelbanner;
13th of Malachite,

Our mine must have reached the ears of those at the Spry Anvil, our old home. Just as the first steel bars were produced we received a group of migrant workers arrived. I have not as of yet learned their names, hopefully I will have time to meet them as time goes on.

--------------------------------------------------

Ok, so we have migrant workers! Feel free to claim a person:

1 female woodburner
1 female jeweler
1 female animal caretaker
1 male butcher
1 male stonecrafter
1 male soap maker
1 female peasant
1 male peasant

Record of Steelbanner;
13th of Limestone,

Disaster! We have lost the chance trade this year. The caravan passed us up as we  had failed to finish the trade depot on time. We can only hope that we survive the winter. We have more mouths to feed than we had originally expected. We must try to stretch the food as much as possible. We have even started gathering food from the surface. Hopefully this will not become my memoirs.

Record of Steelbanner;
1st of Timber,

As winter sets in looking at our stock of food lowering rapidly I worry that the fish that we gather now will run out before we see the end of winter. I have not told anyone the totals of the food to prevent panic. The drinks have run out completely. The brewers have instructions to make more, but it runs out as fast as it is made. Even now, I hear there are more migrants on the way to our mine. I would not complain the extra workers on a normal occasion, however, we may starve due to our popularity.

-----------------------------------------

More migrants, but we may die soon...>>
So no report on their skills. But feel free to request.

Also profiles to come if we pull it out of the pit of starvation.

In memory of Steelbanner;
15th of Moonstone,

There is nothing left. The water has frozen over, the food is gone, the booze is gone. Life has fallen apart. Some are resorting to hunting vermin to eat. We have been given the order to abandon the fortress. In the end it was overpopulation and some bad luck that doomed us.

I hope that I make it back to the Spry Anvil, lest I die here pointlessly.

-----------------------------------------

And thus ends my community fortress. Doomed by an overflow of dwarves and a lack of booze. And a dumb move failing to get the trade depot up quickly enough.

Hopefully the next fortress survives longer.
