Me?  Blight.  Alright, one map coming up.

EDIT:  Alright, got a map up, "The Enchanted World".  Even took a picture of it.

So, what are we looking for here?  Sand and trees are a must, because we need clear glass, but what about magma to make the glassmaking use less wood?  Also, how large of an embark area are we using?

Gimme a list of what we're looking for and I'll try to find it.  Or, give me thename of a quick and easy upload site that doesn't require registration (I hate creating profiles everywhere...), and I'll upload the base map for someone else to fiddle with.  If you want to look at the map image, I can do that too.

Well, magma is quite welcome, since we would need to outfit our military (you don't expect museum with items of any worth to last long w/o guards, eh?), and smelting iron/pig iron/steel/forging takes whole forests.

It would be nice to have a chasm so we could build museum in a tower above it (and throw unwelcome visitors to spiders)

Okay, found a few spots.  Lemme know what you think, and if I should keep looking.

Magma, chasm, spot o' cave river, sand, somewhat wooded biome on one side.  Not sure how everyone feels about having dwarves as such close neighbours.

Magma, chasm, cave river, either woodlands or heavily forested, sand, with possiblity of adamntine.  Also contains flux.  Also includes an aquifer in the highlighted area (only one of the biomes to have an aquifer).

Sand and magma on one side, heavily forested on the other.  Chasm and river as bonuses.  Layer of obsidian, but no flux.

Second would be laggy as hell, though adamantine + flux combination sure looks nice.
The only real downside of first location I can think of is lack of flux, but you can always bring some with you. About 100 pieces of limestone or marble should be enough, but we can do with 50 and buy remaining steel bars and crafts for melting.
Lack of an aboveground river is a pain for sure. Wounded that would die and only alcohol in the fort being strawberry wine... Should be fun.

Well, I can keep looking to see if there's another site somewhere that has a brook or a river or something, or a tiny piece of an aquifer (can't stand the thought of a whole map with that though, never dealt with the things before).

And what exactly do we need steel for anyways?  Goblin attacks can be held off relatively easily with a few traps, and steel production can be kicked into gear later on.  We don't really need a standing army right from the get-go.

Better be safe than sorry, I think, so when it's my turn, I'll devote some of the dwarfs to military and mountain reformation for better protection.
Still, it's more fun when a succesion fortress is ruled by different ruler types, so first year, as well as embarking, is entirely up to you. More things for me to be grumbling about when I'll arrive to shape your bookworm museum workers up =)

I don't suppose I could join too?

I'm just about as inexperienced as the rest of you apparently. Never breached adamantine, never been attacked by elephants, never had elephants, never had a siege yet, never caught a purring maggot, never even had a baron yet, though he'll probably come in the next year of Swordgrave, and so on.

I'm a bit more experienced than you. I have found adamantine, but only through cheating, and I've had elephants in my goblin fortress.

Try to find one with an aboveground river. If you can't, I'll go with #1 or #3.

Okay, I'll see what I can find.

Embark Area No.4

Pros: Magma, Sand, Obsidian (hey, I like obsidian), Choice of rift or pit chasms, cave river, one biome heavily forested with thick veg., aboveground river, adamantine.

Cons: No flux, long embark area, adamantine.

The embark area can be moved to encompass only the pit chasm, if you like.  Might be less of a drain on FPS.

Embark Area No.5

Pros: Magma, patch of sand next to magma, moderate woodlands, smallish embark zone, chasm, aboveground river, flux, calm surroundings.

Cons: Scorching climate, tree supply cannot be supplemented with tower caps.  Also, we're sandwiched between two goblin forts.  Thought I might throw that minor detail in.

I'm gonna go work on some modding now, let me know if these are okay or if I should find some more candidates.

"Striking the earth, boss?"

"Striking the earth."

And so begins the grand legacy of "Zustashom" under the guiding hand of the founder and first curator, Humphrey Rithoth.
Translations:  "Zustashom": Ancientclutter.  "Rithoth": bellsknots.

Even his squad name is called "The Swift Bells".

EDIT:  Eh, whoops, just checked the roster and noticed I'm not top of the list.  I haven't saved yet, so the unsettled position is still recoverable.  What's the verdict?

EDIT:  Scratch that, seasonal autosave just kicked in.  I've got the seed to generate a new one, though, in case it's needed.

Kagus, we'll change positions. Strike the earth, and I'll come next year.

Okay, I'm finished.  Gimme a site to stick it on and I'll upload it.

You just need the "save" folder, right?  I haven't done this before.

Errr, that's that? "Finished", w/o any logs for people to enjoy?
Anyway, http://zalil.ru/  is quite fast and handy, with hosting for files below 50 mb for a month. Only downside is that if you don't know russian, wirten info is total jibberish, but browse panel still is multinational as ever =)
And yes, you need "region1" save for next player to go on with.
