That was okay. I would've liked some more screenshots of the beginning and maybe some text about what kind of dwarves and equipment you were setting out with.

Nickzilla  I never got a chance to get a screen shot at the beginning because I didn't know how to but I learned it was just Ctrl+PrtSc

Also the only utility allowed is DFwall because it doesn't cheat or anything and it saves time and it could save your wrists as well  :)

How about the one that gives combat reports? That's a lot of fun.

1st Granite
By the King's decree, on this day I am to be appointed temporary ruler of this settlement. I confess I am anxious. Food supplies are running low, and worse yet... we only have one remaining barrel of strong drink. My new minions... erm... subjects, no... loyal followers have been ordered... asked to till the earth that we may resume production of our beloved dwarven wine.

5th Granite
Praise the miners! We have struck a rich vein of native aluminum. The seasonal traders will be most pleased if they somehow manage to reach our near inaccessible fortress.

7th Granite
I have ordered a survey of the fortress. Udil Vesselguilt had nothing better to do anyways, drunkard that he is. In the absence of wine however, he may prove useful.

8th Granite
Udil has brought in the report. This fortress is a sprawling mess! Truly it hearkens back to the days when it was forbidden to mine earthwards or skywards. Alas, I cannot even find the Mason's Workshop. I have ordered the construction of a new one.

11th Granite
I have begun to streamline the fortress. Many areas are no longer needed. Also, I have in mind a contingency plan should our defenses fail. I shudder to think of the death that would be caused by a penetration of our defenses.

17th Granite

Elves have arrived. They bear no arms. I shall allow them to trade. I have exchanged a filthy goblin sock for their entire stock of food. Truly these Elves are as stupid as the stories claim.

26th Granite
I had a terrifying dream last night. Nay, not a dream but a premonition. I screamed in fear as a terrible horde of filthy monsters assaulted our settlement from the skies. I no longer hold faith in our defenses. Work on the contingency plan has been sped up.

28th Granite

The nightmares are worse now. Truly it feels as if I am being warned by something... other. I am experiences short periods wherein I remember nothing. I've been told that at these times I scurry off to my carpenters workshop. In addition I'm experiencing a strange craving for... shells. Yes. I feel I might do something unpredictable if my hunger for shells is not satiated. I have ordered half the fortress to fish for turtles.
7th Slate
Ahhh. Through great effort I persuaded Newb to gut and eat a turtle.

12th Slate
At last! He is finished eating. Now that I have the shell I need I can... What can I do? It is a mystery. Nonetheless I am strangely relieved.

13th... 18th Slate
Today I woke up on the floor of my workshop. They tell me I've been out of it for days. In my hands I gripped a beautiful Willow Bin. Chiseled into it is the name... Ditchspite the Fists of Bewildering.

I never have been good with spelling. I'm sure it's meant to be Despite the Fists of Bewildering. On it, I , or the unknown entity of my dreams has chiseled a picture of me, surrounded by the dwarves of the colony. The seem to be protesting me contingency plan. But this other being in my mind has left encouragement in the name of my beautiful bin. I must proceed with my project!

1st Felsite

Eight skeletal monkeys have been spotted outside the fortress walls. Truly, Newb Obakadil's walls were a necessary protection. In the event that the walls fail, however my newly named contingency plan, the D.E.P. is nearly ready.  Some say I am mad as they shake their     at me. I say that I am the only one who is truly sane. For in this land of skeletal horrors, we must be able to survive should our defenses be breached.

1st Hematite
The days grow warmer as summer is upon us. Our magma forges, once a comfort during the long cold months of winter are now sweltering. The fortress is overheating. I have ordered the magma rooms sealed off but work still continues on the D.E.P.  Regardless of the heat of the magma.

28th Hematite
Many of my dwarves have acquired the mysterious ability to sense an enemy's presence through 5 walls and a door. They cower in fear before the might of the skeletal groundhogs they insist are there.

29th Hematite
I too, have acquired this ability. Perhaps this would explain the sense of foreboding I've had.

9th Malachite
Our weaponsmith, Onul Semorthiket was possessed by an unknown entity much as I was. Many of our brethren are beginning to show fear. They believe we have roused ancient and evil spirits from below the earth. I believe otherwise. I'm sure these spirits are gifting us with awesome artifacts and guiding us on the correct path. In any case, Onul went and forged a strong iron spear in the magma itself. Tempered by magma, it is sharper than any blade I have ever known.

21st Malachite
I have begun the construction of fitting tombs for myself and Newb.  His tomb is fortuitously engraved with images of a dwarf striking down wolves, his beautiful artifact bedroom window and an image of his journey to the settlement.  The engravers clearly respect him. My tomb has an image of a pair of trousers. It's very nice. Really. But not what I expected. Accenting it on either side are a burning dwarf and a toad. What a wonderful tomb.

1st Galena
A birth! Today a beautiful baby boy was delivered to a happy married couple.

2nd Galena
The D.E.P. (Dwarven Escape Pod) is finally complete!
It is equipped with food, drinks, sleeping arrangements and dining tables. Everything a dwarf could possibly need! All one must do is detach the mooring and the D.E.P. will begin its daring escape into the center of the earth. But, you are thinking, how is it an escape if the dwarves are stuck at the center of the earth? Never fear! I have ordered the construction of modified windmills to propel the D.E.P.  along its merry way.
No longer do I fear the advances of the skeletal hordes! Now, should danger threaten the survival of the fortress, we may send out 7 dwarves to establish a new settlement. Truthfully I am a genius.
Note to Future Leaders: To use the DEP order your lemmings...erm...dwarves to pull the levers inside the DEP. Set this task on repeat. Then, remove the floor outside the DEP. It should immediately plunge into the fiery depths of the earth. Good luck!

7th Limestone
I still feel uneasy. What if the traders are, in fact, traitors? The similarity between those two words is astounding! I must prepare.

14th Limestone
Here they come, not knowing what awaits.

Poised above their unsuspecting heads is a large mass of solid stone. Should they show any hostilities while trading all I must do is pull the lever, collapsing the structure on top of them.

5th Sandstone
Not content with the giant trap built in the month of Limestone I ordered the construction of a demonic face to deter invaders.
15th Sandstone
Another birth! And to the same couple. Prolific, are they not?

16th Sandstone
The merchants have left and my trap was not necessary... this year.

13th Timber
Young Mosus Febcilob was possessed today. He rushed about with the speed of a madman. Never have I seen a dwarf move so quickly. The others wanted to wake him from his trance and expulse the spirit but I prevented them. I wish to see what message shall be delivered this time.

16th Timber

Mosus emerged today holding a wooden idol, a bewildered look upon his face. Is this the image of our benefactor? No! It cannot be this hideous idol. This must be a warning. Yes! A warning from the  spirits to be wary of strange and unnatural beasts. Adorned in carp leather no less... how frightening.

1st Moonstone
Winter is upon us. I have reopened the forges and the magma room. I think I shall order the production of mittens.

3rd Moonstone
Once again I am beset by terrifying nightmares. Armok save us all. Or, at the very least, may Armok slaughter our enemies.  The constant *thock* *thock* of Newb's arrows late at night does little to help.

28th Opal
It would seem that Newb has mysteriously lost his leg. Perhaps it has been missing for a while and I simply haven't noticed. In any case, it has made him miserable. Melancholy, in fact. He wants to kill himself but he can't. Because he's missing a leg. I pity him. His name shall never be forgotten! Well. Maybe it shall be someday forgotten. But not today.

9th Obsidian
No improvement in Newb. It may be due to the goddess he worships. Misery in the form of a female dwarf? Sounds like marriage to me. He still refuses to eat or drink. We may require his tomb sooner than expected.

1st Granite
It is with a light heart that I hand this fortress over to my successor. Finally, I am free of the cryptic visits from the supernatural, the plague of undead, the famine and all the tribulations of the past year. No longer must I fear for the safety of my fortress for it is no longer mine. I hereby relinquish the command to the one known as PTTG??, may he take measures to ensure the prolonged safety of our home, as I have done. May he guide the survival of our community.

-Elitay Kikrostikal, former mayor of Bloodrock.

I hate it when I wake up in the morning to discover that my leg's gone.  Would make me melancholy, too!

Aye, well that's for the next ruler to deal with. Hear that DFNewb? It wasn't me that killed you. It'll be the next guy!

My favorite bit was when the dwarf I picked and named, randomly got possessed. That was fun.
