Duke did I kill it for you? Cause I thought the fort was pretty fine, food and booze was only at like 250, but that would give you plenty of time to grow and stuff. Plus you had plenty of plants. It wasn't that bad right?

I don't think we should turn migrants off. Getting overpopulated and having dwarves starve and go mad is all part of the challenge!

Due to some... uh problems, it will be done over the weekend.

Due to scheduling, I only had a day to do it straight through. And guess when DF decided to crash? A Day before fall. I knew it. A event happened that day.

But I guess as a treat, I'll outline Spring by tomorrow EST.

You may want to turn on seasonal or monthly auto-saves, and optionally autobackup. Saves you from a lot of crashes.

Indeed. I downloaded vanilla DF so that I could play this without anything screwing up. Don't want somebody to wonder about random sand zones and bags of sandy loam. I guess I forgot to set the init beforehand.

 1st Granite, 1055 Early Spring,

It is on this day that I take up leadership of Bloodrock, the Fortress of Guardangel the Blue Labor. I guess Izeg DOES reward her followers. I'm not quite sure how I got this position, a lowly Le Maker. I thought for sure I was a goner when I first saw this fort. Many rumors of fortresses dumping our kind in volcanoes.

I immigrated here, and I really have yet to have much time to look around the place. I guess now I'll have to.

 2nd of Granite,

Wow, things are a little... hectic around here. I guess I'll have to right some thing. Mainly the housing situation. Where are we al going to sleep, the barracks? We don't look like a fortress, why should we live like one? I had a friend of mine design the new residences near a place designated for a spiral staircase. I don't know who would use such a place, you can't sleep there nor eat there.

The current housing standards are indeed rather low. I hope to get every Dwarf a bed by the end of my rule. I'll even take a pick at this myself, to show the population that I'll be glad to help with heavy work.

Also, I'm expanding some halls and stockpiles.

 6th of Granite,

Seems like there has yet to be a real fight for this fortress. I'm creating walls on our northern border to make sure invaders won't try anything funny on the overhanging cliffs.

 12th of Granite,

Looking back, these journal entries seem a little... common. I do this for the people! They should know what their leaders are thinking!

Oh, and some kobolds came yesterday to deliver their good of Petty Annoyance. This was a perfect time to export our good, Death. One even died in the refuse stockpile, which saved some hauling.

And some baby snatchers came today. A legendary woodcrafter skilled in quite a few professions in his own wrestling squad hit one so hard that he severely damaged it's heart and lungs. Damn, I'm staying away from him.
The others were found by the woodcutting team. A pair after Datan Morulimush's babies. One escaped with nothing to show, the others had his hands loped off before the killing blow was made.

A few more attacked several different parts of the fortress at once. A mixture of soapers and pump-operators took care of them.

That’s right, go back and tell the rest of your kind what we do to baby snatchers!

 17 granite,

Elves! We will be getting rid of as much goblin crap as we can to them. I have heard that goblins often invade behind an Elven caravan, so I set all military squads near our borders.

  20'th Granite,

A wrestler has suffocated. I don't know what previous condition warranted this, but he was the leader of the newbie squad. I'm sure it was just a sparring accident. Then again, why do our newbie fighters have spears?

Also, I traded with the elves myself today. I'm just wondering, who the HELL told them it was okay to bring so much cloth?! We have enough leather to outfit the entire fort with armor, why would we need cloth?

I'm tempted to use the deathtrap on 'em, but I remember: I have several under construction that I would like to put into action all at once.

 1st Slate,

While digging out the housing district, we found Copper, Tin and Aluminum. I shall name this the Bronze District.

Also, I think I have a protest on my hands. Dwarves are canceling tasks left and right, for no real reason. There is no way I overworked them, and they are all quite happy. I only hope this is temporary.

 9th Slate,

The protests continue. It seems only after several suspensions the Dwarves get to work. This is for you guys! an, I need a drink...
Also, during the protests, a child was snatched. This is why we all need to work together!

 24th Slate,

Seems there are more minerals in the new hall than thought. We just hit the tip of veins of Galena and Copper. Hurah! Like my father always taught me, "The minerals are always better after the magma." Of course that was with the older fortresses and they usually meant a river of magma and not a volcanic pipe, but I guess it holds true everywhere.

 2nd Felsite,

Medtob Litastgembish, the Woodworker, has been possessed! I hope we can drive out these spirits taking over his body.

 I wonder...

*There appears to be several scratch marks on the page, several of them seemingly in rage*

So, the possession was made to warn us. Several unwanted persons appeared just now. A Tax Collector has appeared, as well as a Hemmerer, Countess and a Wise Dwarf. Now I'll need to cater to their demands.

I guess this is why I made those noble rooms in the Bronze District. I just hope I can furnish them soon enough to avoid problems. I REALLY hope no stink'n economy happens.

The Woodworker claimed a bowyers workshop. Perhaps this is a sign that I'll need to use a crossbow soon?

 11th Felsite,

The woodworker is finished. He created a Chestnut Crossbow, which I hope I never need to use on the nobles.

Whenever,

Those bastards evicted me. I’ll show ‘em. They can take my room, but nobody will know of my burial site. Nobody. As a note to whoever cares/whoever goes through our wills, here is a copper statue in my room. Remove it, and you’ll see a constructed wall. Take it apart and you will find where to bury me.

Ah, the warmth of summer. Hopefully it won't make the vomit in the entrance any worse. And hopefully, it won't bring the heat of battle.

Oh man, that took a while. Hopefully I can get the rest of the year down relatively fast. The FPS is around 10-20, I dunno how fast I can do this.

Didn't he die before my rule? I think Rice made you a nice burial place along with some other important people...

 But anyway, onto Summer!

 13th Hematite,

A Human caravan arrived. Now our defenses are better prepared to take on any invaders that might wish to take advantage of this. I'm closing the other gates and sending out the troops.

There was a bit of a gap, but I had to have somebody mine me new lodgings. I've been sparring, dry-pumping and smoothing walls for a while to make me more useful. Not to mention designing a new prison. I'm sure with what I've heard about nobles, this will be needed. The walls won't be smoothed because prisoners don't deserve such comforts.

 17 Hematite,

Now I'm officially a macedwarf! The Mayor Fikod Avuzatek was re-elected today with no apparent election. I really don't mind 'em, but I never casted a vote.

I did do something in the past few days. Looking at the finishing Bronze District, I decided to expand it. Another floor below it. Below that, the official vault/tombs. The vault/burial grounds have a vault door made of iron, only operable through the hammerers villa.

Yeah, good luck trying to steal from the vault now.

 3rd Malachite,

Two events! Both with mixed amounts of joy. First, the Baroness Consort mandated the construction of two buckets. Hurah for easy mandates! I myself will take any beatings that failing this would give.

Second, a mason has give birth to a girl! This makes three children, and the whole marksdwarf squad is taking them for drinks in the great hall. Man, I love that hall.

 4th Malachite,

Looks like I jinxed it. The Baroness mandated two lead goods. All we have is a single known vein of Galena, and only one currently mined.

I REALLY hope I can get to make buckets out of it, and let HER use 'em.

 14 Malachite,

I spent the last five days in the medical wing. Some sparring accident. The Surgeon says my upper spine is hurt, but thankfully it doesn't seem to have much effect on me. I knew one human lady who had her spine hurt by an imp. She was knocked out every couple minutes, causing many problems. I guess I should consider myself lucky.

Today I had the dwarves start furnishing the crypt/vault. The first level is for anybody who died making this place possible. The halls below are going to be dug out for warriors, nobles and other folks of fame. Seems the previous rulers don't need any special place, though. Seems they all made their own. I even visited Rice's lava tomb. I mean jeez, at least mine is discreet.

Look at that! Thats overkill! Although I did see flies in there once.

 21 Malachite,

We begin the digging of the second level of the Bronze Plaza. This will only encompass the nobles new rooms, as the previous ones were merely stand-ins. Now She'll have her own throne room. Also, I redesigned the barracks.

 2nd Galena,

The Bone Carver Reg Sigunaran withdrew from society today. Lets hope this doesn't foretell the coming of the coming of royalty. And with all the bones we have, I don't think there will be a problem of getting stuff.

 It's nice to have shells.

 7th Galena,

The bonecrafter is now legendary. I could see him adorned with the familiar dress colors of one. I decided to check out the crafting workshop, where there was a crowd of dwarves admiring the artifact. It was an artifact turtle shell chain. How he did that will forever remain a mystery. I guess it's a legendary thing.
Now I wonder who will get this in their room...

 Sometime in Galena,

Can't talk. Sparring again. Consort demands aluminum items. We got the stuff. Hurah.

Their official residences are finished. We just need to engrave the walls.

Autumn has come. I can feel the crispness in the air. Of course going down to the Bronze Plaza, I could feel nothing except the warmth of the magma pipe. I must say, halfway through my rule I've made some differences in these dwarves lives. Hallways widened, more sunlight, expanded our borders, made us more safe...
And the Plaza floor 1 has been completed! Now I just need to have the vault cleared out and send some miners to dig out the catacombs.

Heh heh yea it is kinda overkill. It was originally gonna be for PTTG, but when he said he had a tomb constructed already I decided to use it.

I've never had the economy before.

 ...

Now I see why people hate nobles so much. The Mayor is now demanding scepters. And considering that the only three champions we have are wrestlers and are on the fortress guard, any beatings will cause the victim's head to be kung-fu'd into next week.

You can see the room for my character in the upper-left of the prison image. You can kinda see some unmined rock next to it, the secret tunnel to my tomb.

I was planning another update today, but some problems are in my way. Expect the update the day after tomorrow.
