Here's the update for today:

Journal of Dishtab 'Pttg' Workedgulf

1st Granite, 1053:
Elitay came down to my room today while I was trying to re-arrange the furniture to hide where the miners dug the aluminum out of the walls. I've always thought she was a little paranoid, but it seemed she had some good news for me. She says that I am being put in charge of management of the fortress, and the keeping of records! I was unsure at first, as I really have no great knowledge on management, but after thinking it over, I really do have a few ideas on how to get everybody to work. I'm just a bit nervous about what she said as I left to plan out my office. Something about "-keeps 'em from lookin for ME..." whatever that means. Anyway, Elitay's still the official leader of the outpost, but, well, I think she's been busy booby-trapping her office doorway for days now. Looks like I'm on my own.
Hmm. you know, I bet the Fortress Manager can get a room without holes in the walls, too.Anyway, I went over the logs and walked around the meeting halls- hardly anybody's working, and those that are are swamped! The problem is nobody knows what to do. My plan is this: to first interview some of the newer immigrants and see what they can do, you know, give them a push in the right direction. Then, look over the more experienced guys and tell them what to focus on. Did you know we had dwarves sitting around waiting to run PUMPS? No wonder things are running so slow around here!

To work!

Wait! new news! The wife gave birth to a son! What a day! I'm going to get the
miners started on new quarters immediately!

3rd: One of the new recruits- I assigned much of the spare work force into the military- has withdrawn from society, muttering in a way that much reminds me of Elitay. He's now working in one of the surface shops.

11th:
The Elves arrived. I went to see what goods we had to trade, but found all we had good for trading to the picky pointy ears where two bins of silk! Well, it will have to do. The spouse is taking care of our son, Deduk, so I'll have to get someone else on the job.

15th:
Oddly enough, Elitay volounteered to do the trading. Hum. Should I be worried? In other news, that new recruit finished what he was working on; a lovely puzzelbox featuring, among a forest of spikes of Alunite and Andesrite, a group of Dwarves surrounding someone in particular. He calls it "the persuasions of slipping"
I've decided to let him continue to explore his creative side, so long as he lets us sell his works for the good of the fortress. Hmm... This mysterious project, Elitay's working with the elves... I wonder if this might mean something.

My Turn is Done. This was a fun fortress- I'll take annother turn later, if needed.

1st Slate:
Some Migrants have arrived! We hardly have work for are current residents! I'll have to almost make work for them. Hmm... I could plan some kind of construction...

14th:
Well, I've gotten all the new imirgrants settled in place. I'ven appointed a rather bewildered peasant to be our captain of the guard- a wonderfull place to put unneeded dwarves. Our millitia is getting quite strong, now. I've re-opened the magmaworks to forge weapons. I just hope that we can get the breweries going before the ale runs out-

Monsters! Skeletal groundhogs are disturbing the workers. Finialy the military will get some real practice! I've sent them out to destroy the gruesome things. It was a great success!

It seems Elitay is not done ruling us- for her own mysterious ends, she has banned the export of crowns.

26th:
Despite the fact that I have ordered more brewing, itseems that thirst is a common problem. I have yet to determined the cause; perhaps these dwarves are simply too lazy to go drink- Ah, there, now that some fresh ale is being brewed, they are crowding around the still. It seems that we have no seeds for any traditional dwarven plants!

26th Felsite:
At last, a busy month. Almost everyone is working! It is really wonderfull to see. Soon we will have proper offices for the administrators (such as me!) and have a lot of work done on the lovely new project.

6th Hematite:
Annother craftsdwarf has been struck by Fey inspiriation. I begin to tire fo the many fancy crafts of these moody dwarves. He ran all over the fortress gathering up bundles of wood.

18th Malachite:
Work has been progressing so well I can hardly miss a moment to take note! The Grand Dining Hall, the project I was talking about, has been completely carved out, ready for smoothing and further detailing. I have assigned much to be crafted to create what will be trully a gloryous hall. Oh, and one other thing... I have decided it is essential to have the best for my tomb. I have for that reason requested that an aluminum sarcophagas be forged, and I will have it inlaid with gems. This will be my resting place, nestled next to the volcanic heart of the mountain.

In more earthly news, Kubuk Minedchewed has been elected mayor. He has requested that turtle shell items not be exported.

27th Malachite:
A girl has been born to one of the marksdwarves. Oh. Joy. be. to. Armok.

15th Limestone:
Annother birth. I fear that we may soon be overrun with infants. The Caravan arrived today. We where able to make some very gainfull trades and send some valuble masterworks to the mountain homes, where even if they are destroyed, the artists won't know about it. He he.

24th Sandstone:
The Grand Dining Hall is being furnished and some wonderfull engravings have been commissioned. I will enjoy dining here for long after I step down. I have requested that some sections of the wall be left unfinished so that future events can be recorded in the gloryous room. Oh, and for future notice, I had the grand gem window moved to the Escape Pod- it hardly makes sense to not see where one is going!

19th Timber:
Kubuk has lost his mind! He has banned the export of boxes and bags! How are we supposed to ship things away? Perhaps this has something to do with his meager office. Perhaps once things are organized there to his liking, he will regain his senses.

1st Moonstone:
Annother recruit has died sparing. Why do I only find out about these deaths whey they are already stinking up the palce? We have a full-time Nurse to busy laying around to bring them to a bed! Bah!

24th Moonstone:
A stonecrafter has given birth. At this rate, with recruits dieing left and right, we'll be outnumbered in only a few months.

23rd Opal:
I have annother son! It seems that all I write about are births and deaths. Well, soon it will be spring and someone else can take care of the main business of the fort.

[Undated]:
Ah! It is spring! This has been a very busy year, but so very good for our fortress as well. I am glad to step down from official leadership of our fortress- though I'll still do accounting and mangegeral work- and spend more time with my family.

I think I forgot to assign the Tomb to 'PTTG'. Could the next player do that for me?

((My tomb is practically built, I just need the lava moat and mechanisms.))

11th Granite

This is the first major event since my move into power! The elves have come to trade bringing mainly worthless rope reed cloth. I decided to trade with them and allow our own craftsdwarves to make wonderful clothing and delicate jewelry. Possibly  even some menacing spikes, though I can only imagine how they make cloth menace. I have yet to introduce myself. I am Rice, The Wise and All-Knowing, and I shall be leading this fort for the next year. I was once a meager mason and engraver, but now I lead my people. Ahhh, how good it is to be a dwarf., It is my hope to greatly improve living conditions here.
I see that there is yet to be an official dining hall, and it shall be my second act as leader to officially open it. Its completion should be soon

17th of Granite

The Dining Hall has been completed! A thief showed up, but it left before our guards could go and deal with it. I don't think anything was stolen, but its become apparent that our defenses are not yet strong enough.

27th of Granite

The Dungeon Master has arrived!! And at his heels a host of new migrants. Our numbers have risen to 83. In other news I have decided to construct my tomb, as well as design new living quarters for myself. A grand ruler cannot be living in simply 'Meager Quaters'!

6th of Slate

Datan, a wordworker has give birth to a girl! err boy. We are at 83 people. I fear an attack by goblins shall come soon, and I will prepare our military.

13th of Slate

In a berserk rage Obok Kiroltar flew against the skeletal groundhogs that had been tormenting him for months. He slaughtered two of them singlehandedly and became a novice wrestler. His rage subsided and he went to go get a drink.

19th of Slate

Yet another birth, this time it was certainly a girl (I checked with the parents). The dwarves here are most... fertile. The mayor has also decided to mandate the construction of silver items. Upon checking our stocks I noticed a distinct lack of silver bars. I pity the metalsmith sentenced for not completing this mandate. Oh wait I crafted metal items in my time! I hac better find some silver!

8th of Felsite

These rough stone floors are ugly, and I am having them smoothed, perhaps someday engraved with our fort's great history. But for now anyway I want them smooth. Our Dungeon Master still has not had his quarters prepared and I believe he is somewhat miffed at that. Also to date no silver has been found.

16th of Felsite

A miner has been saved. Due in part to her own great stupidity, she trapped herself in my tomb during its construction. Luckily the bridge was built before she starved to death. The lesson today, Constructions are dangerous!

5th of Hematite

My tomb's moat is completed! Also, I have determined that PTTG's residence is no longer good enough for him and have decided to smooth his floors. A former ruler desrves better then rough floors to greet him after a hard day's work. That and he is a family man with two children now. I think I will add a wing to the house for him.

18th Hematite

The humans have arrived and brought several excellent raw materials. I had our trader give them a large profit, mainly in our useless stone crafts. I will never know how the humans find so much use for those stone mugs. The mandate from the mayor has gone unheeded. There is yet to be anyone punished.

6th of Galena

More migrants, it would seem that my period of ruler ship shall be remembered by boredom and lack of interesting events. The last migrant brings us to 94.

12th of Galena

Hail Tholtig Olonadek! She has become a legendary champion! All that time encouraging our military has paid off! We now have two champions, although the warriors are still under armored. The next
dwarf to take over must correct that situation.

21st of Galena

A planter has withdrawn from society. I have heard of these thins from the mountain halls i hail from, and I can only hope that the fool finds whatever he needs.

26th Galena

Zon Beregom has finished his construction, a red beryl floodgate valued at  48000 dwarf monies! It is truly beautiful banded with red beryl and seemingly cut out of a single gem. Also Zas Ingulcatten has become a champion as well! I think i shall find a good place for the flood gate. Perhaps a fortress destruction method?

27th of Limestone

The dwarven traders have arrived. We have all decided to celebrate by drinking in the dining hall, but I am somewhat sad that I shall be leaving my position soon. I hope to remain at engraving, and perhaps the future rulers will allow to me the practice crafting metals. Well it is getting late, I should go to bed now.

2nd of Sandstone

I am beginning a fortress beautification project (including the smoothing of the fortress). It shall be a spiral staricase around the dungeon master's new tomb. Questionably morbid, but I think that it shall be an excellent addition to the fort. It does not look like it shall be completed during my term, so I hope that the future ruler considers finishing it.

6th of Sandstone

More migrants! Dear lord during my term our population has exploded! We are now at over a hundred dwarves! The final count is 106! I hope that the next ruler can produce more food. Although it was a minor thing for myself, I had not expected such an increase in population.

17th of Sandstone

The Beautification Project continues, but these extremely narrow hallways are slowing the work down considerably. I am also issuing an order for more doors. We are running out. Managing this fortress it quite difficult, although I can look forward to my retirement soon.

6th of Opal

Yet another birth, we've had several, but I haven't bothered recording them because by the time I do there is yet another one. Our numbers have risen to 110, and of those 18 are children or babies. Way to many kids here.

11th of Opal

Yet another dwarf has gotten into a strange mood. This time it is a jeweler! Perhaps he shall make some particularly worthy artifact.

17th of Opal

After claiming a single red beryl the jeweler, Ingish Kosothushrir has created a chain! From a single gem! Unbelievable! My rule is coming to an end soon, but I shall commission the building of the Giginusil Manor. She is a family mother and a hard worker, and only his meager quarters. This situation must be rectified as well.

The New Year

My term has ended and none to soon as well! The Manor has been completed and I left room to expand it if and when necessary. I hope that future rulers will look at my rule and consider granting our people such luxuries as these families can afford. I now turn over my leadership to the next in line.

Edit: Elitay, did you know you have two rooms?

A couple questions I should have asked sooner:

-May I turn off migrants for this year? A hundred dwarves... I never had that many. Seeing as this is a newbie game, this is a perfect place to stay.

-I forgot how to take screenshots from the currently active window. I know it's something Print Screen...

-I have winRAR, but no clue as how to use it. I'm dabbling in this particular area of zipping files.

Other than that, I'm off to the game!

Agreed on the migrants, I don't want to deal with more unless I have to.
