Yes, I believe they were churning out bronze natively, and had some of their own supplies of iron and silver. Don't remember the specifics.

Mayoral Report - Lokum Lerommeng, 11th of Sandstone 1090.
The traders came, and they left. None of the dwarven guards seemed interested in joining a fortress under my leadership, which was quite hurtful. However, we did pile high the food stocks with lots of cheese, and we picked up some more wood. We don't actually have any need for either of these, but it seemed rude not to trade with them at all, and it allows us to get rid of a lot of junk.
