Hey mayday, you have a dwarf fortress 40d# version? They are a massive improvement and might crank your FPS up quite a bit.

What does it add?
Largely, system optimization that will go into 41a.  It makes worldgen go much faster.

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

I went from an average of 9FPS in a mature 100~ dwarf fort to 27. It is a very nice optimization.

I haven't tried it since I left WinXP, however there was no performance increase for me when I did.

I think that once you hit a certain point in a fort, the improvement is in the decimals (from 40d to 40d10).  But there's 40d11 out now; I haven't tried that out yet in any of my low-FPS forts.  It might be better.

Word play.  There are forty Dee-elevens out now.  He's asking how I found so many.

You know, whenever ToadyOne talked about 40d10 I thought he was talking about dice, too.  DnD has ruined me. :(

On a more relevant (but not really) topic, I don't think we're going to see any substantial improvements in performance until Dwarf Fortress gets multithreaded.

I heard that Toady said he wasn't going to deal with multithreading.

It didn't change the preformance for me (although I had to turn partial print off for it to work, which I don't for the normal versions, so it might have speeded it up equal to what pp does normally). However, DF  used to only pop up on part of the screen (and not let me see the date on the Z screen), now it can always get to full screen.
