Go. Do it at work. Or better yet, church.
Go with friends, family, employers. Go to /b/.
Better yet, go to /d/. It stands for, um, /dwarf fortress/.

Two things:

1.  This story is sufficiently entertaining for me to read nearly 40 pages (had to break it up into two sittings, though).  Keep it up!   :D

2.

Kobold's Quest is okay.  This one's far better IMO.

No Armok, I haven't gone for A Kobold's Quest yet. I'm currently, finally, working my way through Boatmurdered, but I'm not sure if I can handle another 750+ post thread. Reading all of Nist Akath got me brown wounds to both eyes.
I hear it's also more removed from Dwarf Fortress?

Captain Mayday, it seems like you've got a long list of dwarves-to-be backed* up and no new migrants. But, judging mostly by the enormous amount of deaths listed each day, don't you have a good number of unnamed dwarves currently residing in your fortress? While I'm sure not everyone will want a Mason and you would rather not draft some of your Craftsdwarf into the army to accommodate people, surely some people might be satisfied with workers of other professions. Maybe even their own profession will be here, though it won't be a fresh dwarf.

* Including me, but I'll hold off on requesting my Macedwarf until a spot opens up.

I'm more than willing to allow current dwarves to be renamed with community names, if people would prefer that.
There's an extremely low number, though, and I will post a list a bit later with all the options.

He's back!
You come on at odd hours, it seems. Though for The Captain, I'm not at all surprised.

As for where I was, I was away for a night in Melbourne.
My girlfriend's father's band friend was having his 60th and it was a pretty awesome night.

Swinging even.

Alright, as promised, here is the list of available dwarves currently living in the fortress.

4 Legendary Mason/Miners, all female.
3 Mason/Miners, 2xMale 1xFemale

5 Legendary Craftsdwarves, 2 male, 3 female.

1 Legendary farmer types, 1xfemale
7 other farmer types, 5xmale, 2xfemale

4 currently incidental guards. 1 male, 3 female.

1 Legendary child, female.
17 normal children: 4 male, 13 female.

I also grabbed one of the legendary masons to be 'Miki', since 'fertile imagination' is about as close as we're going to get to 'appreciates art' at the moment.

Edit: Still grabbing dwarves for people.

Captain's Log. 12th of Limestone.
Today we had some guests. First, our friends the dwarven traders came.

Then a hydra appeared on the scene.

I was having crumpets with Xotes at the time, reviewing our food stocks and so forth, and honestly, the last few times this has happened there has been no cause for concern. I saw no reason for there to be a problem this time.

Nevertheless, I did go and see what the fuss was about. I arrived just in time to see it lumbering towards our traps, having its innards torn out in the process.
Quite grisly, all in all.

Xotes suggested we should throw it on the refuse pile, to let its flesh rot off. One day, of course, we may actually feel the need to make something from its foul bones. But given our current surplus, it should be a while before we get to it.

The Captain... eating crumpets?

That seems odd.

I'll take a child, in that case.

Name: Scorpios
Gender: Male
Profession: Child -> Macedwarf

That is, assuming you could use more military in the future. Could you?

The Captain eating crumpets makes him seem even more badass, somehow.
CAPTAIN: I was thinking of turning one of our fallow fields over to pig tail this season, Xotes. What do you think?
XOTES: Well...
CAPTAIN: Pardon me.
(The Captain brutally decapitates a skulking kobold. Blood and viscera spray across his beard)
CAPTAIN: I'm sorry, you were saying?
(The Captain sips his tea)

Damn, what a thread. Id like to be in it, if of course you get more dwarves.

Request:
What... is your name: tskiller
What... is your favoured profession: mason, but anything really.
What... is your gender? male

That aside, very entertaining story, makes the work day go quicker!
