So let a dragon in, destroy/steal/melt/dig/crush all of the masterpieces, and get a 3-year old to manage the fortress.

If one sees such a being; run away, unless you like the idea of joining their ranks.

Captain's Log. 26th of Granite.
The Baroness' mandate for sterling silver items has finally reached the end of its course, and for its failure she has selected a dwarf to receive 2 Hammerstrikes.

This dwarf was the hero Doren Hoodpages.

Doren was quite surprised by the punishment order when he was told, and immediately set off to obtain plate armor before it could be carried out.

Before he could move, the Hammerer was all over him like an Elf on a Shrubbery.
He was dragged off to the prisons.

He came away mauled, but very much alive. I stood him down so that he could recover.

I still think the one about killing a child in Captain's other fortress is the best one .

Captain's Log. 7th of Hematite.
I visited Doren today and he had much to say about his displeasure with the Nobles, which is understandable.
Fortunately, I only had to listen to his venting for a while, because he shortly slipped into unconsciousness and I used the opportunity to leave the room.

It was only moments later that I heard a commotion above.

The farmer Rigoth Goldenmile had snapped after being unable to find all the ingredients for some project she was working on, and had burst forth in a berserk rage.

Burnedtoast saw her and ran for help, which, so it appears, was me.
I met her about halfway down the hallway to the great shaft and knocked her bloody block off.
With a single punch, she was sent flying out the other end of the hall and into the stone stockpiles.

Lightweight.

As a commoner, she only receives a normal grave in the communal graveyard.

Captain's Log. 13th of Hematite.
Today was good.

Keller gave birth, again, to a girl named Zulban, meaning "Banner".

The humans also arrived today. They were quite impressed by our projects, though when they asked to see them, I politely declined, citing extreme dangers of the workplace.

They got the hint and we settled down to trade.

**Note: I'm back at it, and now I have the nefarious tool Dwarf Companion which will assist me in a) Storytelling, and b) Preventing the untimely deaths of bedridden heroes whom nobody feeds because health care is bugged.

Edit, on review have also modified Dragons a bit to be more like the stereotype. Dragons not flying and being hideous foes to battle does not sit well with me.

while you are at moding, why not mod the goblins to make them a real threat ?

maybe you won't have to make up and end

The goblins are already a serious threat. They just can't get inside to do real damage. If I let them in, they would overwhelm the troops.

Something like that will definitely end up happening, but first I need to finish all the big projects so that Nist Akath is a seriously awe-inspiring adventuring destination.

Now that my fortress has survived first two goblin attacks (as opposed to goblins hanging around the map edge), I would say that the real problem is not goblins trying to get in but dwarves rushing out to get killed, even though I've told them not to leave their posts. This has already cost me two expert marksdwarves, an axe lord and several recruits.

That can be resolved by forbidding everything outside your walls. You can then selectively reverse this for items you actually want.

Captain's Log. 10th of Sandstone.
The Dwarven traders, whose re-appearance is only notable because of the time in which they have been here, have commenced packing to depart.

With them, they will take word of our most recent achievements to the Queen.

Usually, this is not something I would enjoy, and I would typically keep our projects secret from them. But with it all taking place on the surface, that is easier said than done.

The white walls of the fort rise above the tundra's flat landscape, and can be seen for some distance. They were impressed, not only by the size of the structure, but by the yawning pit it encompasses.

When one of them asked me how far down it went, I said "all the way".
At that moment, a particularly cold gust of wind blasted us, and he gave me an unnerved look.

No matter how old I get, I never get sick of terrorizing the youth of today.
