Captain's Log. 10th of Felsite
The carpenter has finished. It's an armour stand, and boy is it a beauty!
For some reason it's named Cleanknighted the Courteous Power. Whatever.
It's got a great picture of a dwarf talking with some elves on it. I'm pretty sure that's supposed to be me!

I told her it was so nice, I'd like to put it in my room. She just glared at me until I felt unnerved enough to leave.

Captain's Log. 17th of Hematite.
Goblins.
They're at our doorstep.
As far as I can tell, there's no way for them to enter.

We shall see what the outcome of this is.
I think we can wait them out.

Captain's Log. 26th of Hematite.
The goblins still wait outside. I have decided on a course of action.
I have mandated the construction of catapult parts.
WOE BE HE WHO IGNORES MY MANDATES!

I wonder how long it takes a goblin to freeze...

Keep up the good work mate, this is good stuff.  I'd offer myself up as an incoming migrant, but I don't think even my Norse blood would make me eligible for entry.

Unfortunately, it's the middle of summer. The goblins are also well rugged up.
I can't wait them out, they'll never die that way.

Pity.  Would be nice if you could make a freeze-trap, but the water probably wouldn't be all that cooperative.  What with it being frozen and all.

Undermining probably won't be that practical, but it might be fun.  You may even get a couple of the little buggers.
Of course, it may be just as efficient as an untrained catapult operator, particularly one that might get scared away by the goblins being so close.

You might want to try trapping the area underneath the entrance, and then just opening the door. Not very entertaining, but it works.

They -can- be waited out.. Done it before several times in my lock-in fortresses. After several months of no action, they finally wander away.

..It'd be a lot more fun to watch 'em splatter under flying stones, though. You've got my support on those catapults! Or other methods of mass killing, as long as they don't get us killed as well.

Captain's Log. 13th of Galena
The catapult is complete. As a testament to my wisdom, I took the opportunity to fire it for it's first usages.

It's an amazing shot!

Several goblins have a bad case of being clipped by a frigging boulder.
No deaths, but they ain't happy.

I think I just found my new hobby.

Woohoo, I actually healed! I'm amazed!

nice shot with the catapult, shame we don't have wood for a ballista though. Maybe you can order some next year if we have enough food and drink. Though it would actually probably be better spent on beds, at least for the important dwarves.

If you want to prevent the liaison from going insane, you can build an office for yourself (or whoever meets him) at ground level and he won't get stuck. It seems to be z-levels with no exit from that map that bugs them. That's assuming, of course, that them going insane is undesirable.

I have to say this is one of the funniest fortress logs I've seen so far, keep up the great storytelling  :)

Hm. I *could* build it on the same level. But then... it would be less funny?

I guess you, as the leader, have to balance being able to pick what goods you get with the humor of having the liaison go insane every year.

a tough choice.

I'd like to join as a mechanic named Locke(if male, Demosthenes if female), to set up traps.
Traps! Traps everywhere! No where you can step without it being a trap! I'll trap those goddamn skeletal elk yet. Maybe even catch a normal elk, and we can start breeding them!

And if you have any Warhammers, I'd also like to be a hammerdwarf, when you don't need my mechanical skills. Smashysmashy!
