Of course I'll make up the story.
But I'll have to use the abandonment option, because it's the only option that scatters its dwarves through the world, thereby making all the legendary characters possible NPCs

but wouldn't it be bad if the grave of the captain is empty when we find it ?

I guess you will have to kill him, so we can say prayers at his grave

That'll probably happen about the same time that the fortress falls to pieces.

Just finished reading. I never thought I'd read a DF story more epic than Boatmurdered.

I was wrong. Captain Mayday. This is Epic on an unprecedented scale. My brain has just exploded from the awesomeness that is Nist Akath.

Thanks very much. Boatmurdered was a lot to live up to.

As a side note, due to the ridiculous amount of work I've been doing recently in order to pay for things, I've been unable to play df at all for a couple of days.

However, I do have a 3 day weekend commencing tomorrow. I will probably apply some of my free time then to Histories of Felony and Murder, and then Nist Akath.

I can't foresee Nist Akath ending before armies are enabled, so that's a good possibility.

So long as it doesn't require a world regen.

and thus, Nist akath will become the ruler of the world, forcing goblins elves, humans and even other dwarves into submission

I first learned about this game by stumbling across the epic of Boatmurdered. Truly the epic of Nist Akath (Fear the Winter!) is to 3D Dwarf Fortress what Boatmurdered was to 2D Dwarf Fortress.

I came across Boatmurdered at Lets Play Dwarf Fortress - Boatmurdered -- are you going to have this epic posted there as well when it is finished? If not, are there any Goons around who can do this?

I come back from my hospital stay to see my dwarf (Dalrobin) finally gets to join, then immediately goes insane and starts a base jumping trend.

Very short and ungratifying life but in death more than makes up for it.

The problem with the tomb idea is that there will be no rewards. Items (annoyingly) get scattered about randomly.

That isn't to say that it won't be worth it just to go in and say you made it through Nist Akath's dungeon.

I'm a goon, but despite all appearances, am in fact very modest and not given to boasting or seeking the spotlight. I can put on a very convincing act to the contrary at times, however.   :)

The tomb should include a fairly large chamber filled with accounts of the fort's doom, engravings made by the most seasoned survivors right after the events that cause the abandonment but before you actually abandon.
Breaking into that chamber and reading the engravings could be pretty rewarding.

Do items still stay in Trade Depots after abandonment? Because some rewarding items could be hidden inside one inside the Captains tomb, and while it may be less than awesome to have a Trade Depot in a tomb, I'm sure it's possible to rig up a system whereby the Trade Depot gets destroyed just before the adventurer enters the room, scattering the items across the floor and to all intents and purposes hiding the fact that it ever existed. Of course, this all relies on items still staying in them...
