woohoo, I managed to hit legendary mechanic (something I've never got a dwarf to do without a mood in one of my forts).

I also find it more then a little amusing (and appropriate) that the captain is a talented intimidator.

Right, so, it appears that version G has some changes to the freezing code. With that in mind I've gone ahead and prevented my entire fortress flooding.
Edit: I discovered this on loading in version g, so I did the prevention in version f.
