Gasp! Dead?
Oh, yeah. I remember now.

Well, that's just more work for the current one.

Hey, didn't I ask to be a noble? Or do you have specific plans for the new baron?

You did, but you're second on the list to Sandono, and also of the available nobles, only one is a male, the Baron.

Captain's Log. 5th of Galena.
As is their wont, two of our lesser nobles have decided to change their names.
Toralnil, roughly translated as LawHammer, and Duncan... I think it's just a made up name he liked.

Captain's Log. 10th of Limestone.
Winter nears, but life still springs anew.
Nok, one of our speardwarves, has given birth to a little girl she has called Etur. Very charming.
As is the custom in the military, I'm sure she'll be taking the baby into even the most dangerous combat situation.

I've also been involved in digging out a large internal lake. Fish do seem to slip in, through the aquifer, and I believe that such a resource cannot go untapped forever.

Captain's Log. 17th of Sandstone.
It feels like I've been spending all my time in the office at the moment, with barely a moment to spare for myself.
Today I met with many unhappy citizens, all agitated about the lack of work. Or, more to the point, lack of work that isn't hauling.
Most saw the rational side when I pointed out that our fortress had produced an enormous surplus and it required storage, instead of just sitting in the workshops.

Part of my work is, of course, paperwork. Today, a demand crossed my desk. A Rose Gold table in the Hammerer's bedroom.
While we should be capable of doing this, it doesn't explain why she needs it.
Nobles are quite strange.

Our other resident nobles are also causing problems. Baron Lorn has mandated the construction of bucklers, which is no problem, while his wife has mandated the construction of sterling silver items, which is a problem.
In the entire fortress, not an ounce of sterling silver, nor the ingredients to make it.

We've also had a crafts workshop taken by yet another of these oddball dwarves. Usually this is a cause for pity, rather than concern, but he has made off with some platinum bars and nuggets. Expensive work, I hope its worth it.

Captain's Log. 18th of Sandstone.
Well, he completed it. An impressive work, worth an estimated 150000 coin.
He's named it Nightfears the Brave Braided Curls (for some reason), and I've never seen a ring quite like it.

Made of native platinum, he's decorated it with banded knifefish bone and encircled it with lungfish bone and cat leather. It menaces with spikes of turtle shell.
An image is inscribed on it in native platinum, of a dwarf falling.
Another image is rendered in towercap, an image of dwarves talking to other dwarves.
Finally, an image of a cow. In platinum.

It's true. I've never seen a ring quite like it.

**Note: After experimenting a bit with aquifers which change z-level, I've discovered that the lower aquifer will absorb infinite water from the upper aquifer. This makes having a lake with the bottom being aquifer impossible.

However, it also paves the way to more interesting possibilities.

Captain's Log. 27th of Moonstone.
Unsurprisingly, the Baroness' mandate has not been filled, and her response to this was that justice be done.

She has ordered a guard be imprisoned for this failure. I'm not sure why.
The guard in question was a nobody before being a guard, and isn't even a very impressive guard.
