Yeah, you can get another one.

Tinker: Sure.

BurnedToast: Yeah, I tested with the walls in another game. No dice. Still counts as above ground. Interestingly, it is so cold that water coming out of a pump will instantly freeze in mid-air. It is not so cold, however, that dwarves freeze to death in mere seconds.

We do have a significant preventative measure against Elk intrusion now. I'll post a picture of it soon.
Unfortunately, it is currently untrapped. This needs to be fixed.

Ooh.. This is very interesting. I'd like to join in, but can't think of what I'd like to be.

Perhaps... yes.

Name: Hesitris the Blue! (title and exclamation mark optional in-game)
Gender: Male
Occupation: Carpenter by trade, but considering the lack of lumber, will accept other tasks without so much as a grumble. Perhaps brewing.

Must have my booze, though. Preferrably rum, though anything will do in a pinch.

Also, I have an entirely fail-proof defense in mind, as long as nobody needs ever go outside..

Okay, you'll get someone next migration.

The fortress has reached a level of stability. Would anybody like anything built? The crazier the better, probably.

Captain's Log. 10th of Obsidian.
Well, the inevitable occurred. 'The Fonz' has finally died. I doubt we'll ever know his real name.

I feel relieved, and guilty for feeling relieved. He was running around, obscenely naked, covered in grime, babbling like a fool until his last moment.

In other news, I'm becoming impatient with the lack of a judiciary around here.
Until I find a more suitable candidate, I myself will have to fill this position. Once again, it falls to me to dispense justice where it is due.

Captain's Log. 24th of Obsidian.
The madness is spreading. Now the weaver, Zulban Cleanboats, has begun acting in much the same way as 'The Fonz' did. She wandered to the party hall, and stood in the exact same place.

Is there something strange about the party hall doing this?! We must know! Forewarned is forearmed!

As the mayor and sheriff of this fortress, its safety is my concern!

Captains Log. 13th of Granite.
It's spring. I can feel it in my bones. Not that you can tell outside.

I've set the order to commence farming once more.

The Elves are beyond our walls once more. I wonder if they're still in league with the Elk. Something to be wary of.

Captain's Log!

Those filthy elves have betrayed us once more. We were prepared for such, and met the antlered menace as they looked on.

Surely this must be their sick vengeance for our building our bailley from their precious trees.
Undoubtedly, they will scoff at the items made from the bones of these menaces.
"This was once a beautiful creature" my grandfather's beard!

There's no point in bargaining with them. If they want battle, the dwarves of Nist Akath will give them it!

Captain's Log. 20th of Granite.
The discussion with the pointy eared gits went something like this.
Elf:"Greetings shortstuff, we'll be ready soon. Bring out your ethical goods!"
Me: "Shut your filthy food hole, Elf! A fine one to speak of ethics. Not once, but twice, you have betrayed us to the antlered menace! Take your time unpacking. You're not going anywhere!

We closed the gates on them, sealing them inside. We had no intention of them leaving. We had no intention of them coming inside either.

The Elves stand outside. In the freezing cold.
For all their love of animals, they brought animals from tropical climates in cages. You don't need a mastership to figure out what happened.
They're up their with the frozen bodies of their 'merchandise.'

We're bringing it down. Should make for good eating.

Captain's Log. 10th of Slate.
The day we were waiting for has arrived. Zulban the weaver has ceased fooling around in the party hall, and has fallen into some sort of grim mood. Some call it a melancholy. I call it being damned lazy.

She's just moping around now. Hopefully she'll come to her senses and snap out of it.

Captian's Log. 22nd of Slate.
They finally cracked. One pointy eared git started gibbering to himself.
And then his mule totally flipped out. I dunno what to call it. Madness.
The other mule and it's pointy eared git just went kind of sad.

We banded together to put the mule down. Then we let the now-mad elves out into the snow. By themselves. Without their stuff.

Captain's Log. 2nd of Felsite.
Migrants. A whole slew of them.
Why people keep coming here is way way beyond me. But they do, and apparently it falls to me to keep them alive. Or at least keep most of them alive.

Today's migrant tally is:
1 Herbalist
1 Siege Operator
2 Animal Dissectors (what the heck? The guy also has some sort of obsession with cow cheese. Don't ask.)
1 Stonecrafter
1 Glassmaker
1 Soaper
1 Grower
1 Lye Maker
1 Mason
1 Gem cutter (But... we have no gems! We only just got stone!)
1 Gem setter (Yes. That's lucky. Now we'll have something to do with all those cut gems we won't have).
1 Brewer
1 Woodcutter (Why is she here? We don't have any trees!?)
1 useful member of society. Some sort of huntress. Seems to be a similar mind to myself. Perhaps we should discuss a promotion to the rank of sheriff?
3 Useless Peasants
2 useless brats.
1 Kitten
1 Mule
1 Donkey

Admittedly, I think they may just be sending everything useless our way.
"What can we do with so-and-so," they say, "we don't want to put them to death, but we'd prefer it if they weren't alive anymore." Then they think about it for a while and obviously it's Nist Akath that's coming to mind, because otherwise we wouldn't be getting these guys.

Captain's log, amendment
It appears I overlooked the usefulness of our woodcutter. He's got a nice, big, steel axe. Very useful indeed. I conscripted him immediately.

I also noticed one of the peasants staring interestedly at a sword I had on the pile of Elf junk. "Take it and do what you will!" I told him.
So apparently he's a swordsman now. In our army.

The soap maker asked me what he could do to help. I told him to go farm.
He protested, telling me he's a soapmaker. He makes soap. To bathe with.
I asked him whether anybody around here looked hurried to bathe in the ice cold water.
He said, smugly, they'd probably heat it up.
I told him if they did that they'd be burning their own beds, cos there isn't any other combustible material around.
Then he just gave me this look... like the bottom of his heart just dropped out.
I sent him on his way with a cheerful slap on the back.

Another peasant started looking at the Stills a bit funny. Like he wanted to try them. Like he wanted to use them. I told him he was welcome to. Nobody else had the time.
