Captain's Log. 19th of Granite.
Our defense strategy is harsh and fast.
Nagash II fires from the safety of a catapult emplacement, into the 'royal' bodyguard. Meanwhile, BurnedToast and myself fire the catapults in their general direction.

While this did ultimately succeed in scattering Song and his personal goblins, it has not ended the siege. Nor did we manage to hit Song himself this time.

The Elves merely cower behind our walls. I did manage to get their entire selection of goods for mere trash scavenged from the goblins however. Perhaps they will have a use for it.

Captain's Log. 16th of Slate.
After losing enough of their number to our Catapults, the goblins have finally retreated.
The Elves are cranky at having been kept here for so long, yearning for their forests.

I have been yearning for a time when Elves weren't in my fortress, so it was with mutual relief we bid each other farewell.

Captain's Log. 18th of Slate.
No sooner have the Elves and Goblins gone, than we are faced with more news.
Magni, our resident "Jack of All Trades", has quietly taken control of a Crafts workshop.
He grabbed a few logs and got to work.

Journal of BurnedToast. 25th of Slate.
Today more poor souls reached our home.
I informed the Captain, but he said he was busy with that bloody labyrinth, and to take care of it.

Magni interrupted me as I was greeting them, showing off his wooden idol figurine.
He told me he'd named it Crimsonship. I don't know why, it wasn't red, nor was it a ship.
It's a mystery I guess.

He tells me he feels like he can craft just about anything, so long as it was made from wood.
I told him this was just lovely considering we were drowning in the stuff.
He proceeded to tell me that there wasn't much wood when he was grabbing some.
I told him I was being sarcastic and to stay away from the bloody wood, or so help me...

I think he got the point after shoved him back inside. With my foot.

We have received:
1 Animal Caretaker (Welcome to the Military)
1 Woodworker (hooray. Welcome to the wonderful world of engraving!)
1 Miner. According to the Captain, we have a near infinite amount of mining left to do, so she should come in handy.
1 Clothier (Welcome to the Fortress Guard!)
1 Engraver. (Apparently also a near infinite amount of work for him).
1 useless peasant (who also happens to be a social outcast. Since the fortress guard is now at quota, she'll be the first member of the Royal Guard.)
1 Tanner. (Welcome to the Royal Guard)

Can I snag an engraver?  Name: Joro.  This story really makes me want to settle a haunted glacier.  How bad could it be?

Just wanted to add my own 2¢ worth of praise to this topic, owing to the fact that reading it is what prompted me to finally get my butt around to making a forum account.

Excellent story.

Captain's Log. 12th of Limestone.
It seems like whenever I put pen to paper now, it's an invasion or something of the like.
Song has returned, with greater numbers than previously. Perhaps his standing has once more improved. No matter. We'll face him no matter how many he brings.

I have already given the order for all citizens to return inside. We will begin to coordinate our defense.

Captain's Log. 13th of Limestone.
Sandono is dead. We watched the goblins slaughter him from the catapult emplacements.

He was outside, right near Song.

I don't know what he was doing there. It may require investigating at a later time.

Captain's Log. 21st of Sandstone.
So far the damage inflicted upon the accursed goblins has not proven great enough for them to retreat.
We have caused a single squad to vacate the area, that is all.
Hardly an achievement, after all this time.

As if to add insult to injury, the Baroness gave birth yet again. Another baby girl.
Joy of joys.

The only good news is that the labyrinth is very nearly completely cleared, and is about three quarters smoothed.
Once this phase has ended, we will start properly on the tomb itself, while slowly constructing the elaborate traps that will guard my, eventually dead, body.

I am hoping that day is later rather than sooner, of course.

Captain's Log. 5th of Timber.
The Goblins are finally gone.
Unfortunately we didn't even put another scratch on old king Song.

But mark my words, Song. One day we'll get you for all this. One day!

maybe to get rid of Song, build a huge retractable bridge over some spikes, right between the walls, so he has to pass them
that way he won't be able to flee

Unfortunately, the sieges still have them hang around at a distance. It's because of my fortifications, which are already impressive, that he has nearly been killed twice now.

Heh, I had a go at a place just like this a little while ago. Huge pack of ice wolves vs 4 miners = Ouch. And that Blizzard Giant or whatever it's called showed up and punted the last guy 20 tiles away. He was the guy I named after me, too.

yep, my last map was on a sinister glacier. Lost 3 to a blizzard man, 2 to ice wolves and one to circumstances I never managed to decipher and the last one somehow fell into my water pit, with no pick to tunnel out, she would eventually die of starvation.
