I registered mostly to say that this story is awesome.  Nice work, Captain.

Unfortunately, if any of my dwarves happen to like cats, they'll claim him/her before my butcher can even drag it to the shop. Even when he was already awake and ready to go as soon as the buggers pop out.. At that point, he drops it, 'cause then it's a pet and can no longer be flagged for slaughter.

If I can play as a new (not dead lol) character I'd enjoy being
Name: Magni
Job: Metalsmith/Blacksmith/Mason

He is quiet, tough and secretly idolizes The Captain. He is slow to anger, but when angry, can be very dangerous. Despises the Baron, Tax Collector and all the stupid 'authority' sent with the immigrants.

Thanks! Great, GRREAAT story! Poor Bubbles...what a fool of a baron! Hmm...you know, some +dwarf bone crowns+ would look great on the Captain!   :D

Thanks for the praise everybody.

I don't know if any of you has DF-haxor skillz, but I could really use the following tools to make for a proper ending.
- teleporting tool (check)
- healing/harming tool (check)
- setfire/extinguish tool (no check)
- 'make dwarf enemy of fortress' tool (no check)

The only thing I can think of is locking a dwarf into a room till he goes berzerk, and save scumming if he goes melancholy or stark raving mad. Obviously this won't work for a civil war (which it sounds like your planning) and leaves the dwarf so weak from hunger and thirst he won't put up much of an opposition.

If you do get it to work, BurnedToast wants to be on the captain's side, and hopefully I can get an axe or a sword or a big rock or something so I don't just get killed trying to pinch the enemy's eyeballs.

Name: Zangief
Profession: Pump Operator

I want my dwarf to have no skills but pumping uselessly all day. Disable all hauling, etc, if you can spare it, and just leave him to pump for 10 years.
I would greatly appreciate it!

BurnedToast: A civil war isn't quite what I'm planning.
It's pretty close though.

I can get most of the effect with the heal and teleporting tools, I just figured the other tools would be magnificent.

I know there's a way for dwarves to be registered as 'enemy', since it's happened before, as a bug, a long time ago.

I likely cannot imagine what the Captain has planned, but I have this disturbingly gore-filled cartoon movie playing in my head of the Captain yelling a battle cry and charging at the baron while the fortress begins to collapse from the earth-liquifying battle cry. Several surviving dwarves are then assaulted by skelks riding elves into battle.

This thread is even better when you lack sleep.   :D

Captain's Log. 21st of Sandstone.
The labyrinth is complete. It is now undergoing smoothing by most of our engravers.
Our masons have been put to work overtime making blocks and coffins from all the waste stone.
It is slow going, but we'll get there in the end.

We've received some migrants. I've brought most down into the labyrinth to help with the work, but a few did stand out:

** Note to Nos3y: I haven't forgotten you, I've just not had the right dwarf come along to fulfill your request.

Well, if civil war does break out, I'm with the captain too. At least give me a weapon when everything goes to hell, eh?

Captain's Log. 24th of Timber.
Work in the deep below proceeds swiftly. But there is still regrettable news.
Two of my miners died whilst destroying the redundant floors in the Great Hall.
Fortunately, their bodies came to rest quite near their graves, so it at least saved work for the rest of us.

For some reason I can't fathom, or recall, for that matter, I have sentenced Akroma, one of our talented Stonemasons to a hammering, for failing to produce any black bronze items.

Upon discovering this, I quickly located him and told him to suit up with plate mail. I hope he makes it.

About that mighty tomb of yours: maybe you could make it so that, once they've cleared all the traps and the skelks, upon approaching the treasure chamber, they step upon a pressure plate which does two things:

- Releases a lot of water onto them

- Breaks the supports upholding the roof, thus making it collapse onto them while they're being drowned.

Then, as is would now be an outdoor place, the water would freeze and entomb the robbers.

Btw, in case of civil war, I'll officially be with the Captain, but mostly I'll just hide somewhere.
