What conclusion do you draw from these?
a) Kobolds are widely known as not understanding the concept of property
b) Nevertheless, they appear to be exclusively trying to steal artifacts
c) These artifacts are being used as part of an ancient evil ritual.
d) The ritual is being performed by allies of goblins, who tend to be enemies of kobolds.

That's right.  The kobold thieves are actually adventurers trying to save the world.</STRONG>

Clearly for every epic tale you hear of world-saving heroism, there are several hundred dead, nameless, would-be heroes.

In the kobold warrens, whispers of a great and terrible adversary are rife.  A dread lord who spits in the face of nature, destroys all who dare raise a finger against him.  An avatar of death, who works, eats, and sleeps among the corpses of friend and foe alike.  Who cannot be harmed by fire, poison or steel.  An abomination against nature who cannot die.  Possessed by spirits beyond control, a dwarf who reshapes reality as he sees fit.  Not content with mere gold or silver (for what are these trifles to a creature of his power?), he commands his immense horde to build his quarters from the blackest of bronze.  Long beyond sanity, he exists only to bring devastation upon the land.  Ironichor must be prevented from achieving his unholy goals, or surely he will doom the world.  But none can best him in combat, and even the most cunning of thieves have been discovered and fallen to his horrific cohorts.

To attempt is all but suicidal, but any kobold who succeeds will be honored forever.  Glory to the tribe!

You know, it's pretty incredible when you think about it, that this story began with a handful of dwarves barely surviving the harsh winter and omnipresent skelks.  As the story progressed, those early hardships were all but forgotten.  Noble woes, intrigue, massive constructions, and various and sundry other things took over.

Also, this thing's long enough it deserves its own Cliff's Notes or equivalent.

I must admit, this is also what caused me to sign up, thus breaking my sworn oath to never sign up for any forums ever again.

So, thank you Captain Mayday, for causing me to fall from grace and thus ensure that my name will forever be cursed by my family.

I actually joined because of AlanL's Kobold Quest II, but when I saw this, I started following. However, I lost track around page 20 something and I do not dare try to catch up.

This story is actually why I started playing DF again.

For like the 4th time.

I'm fickle, okay?

I will make dwarves purchase things with bushels of credit cards.  It will be a mockery of both systems.
It will be stupid.  But it will be gloriously stupid.

Nist Akath, "Fear the Winter", an epic tale
This is an epic tale. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is decorated with Hydra chunks and encircled with bands of Skeletal elk bone, <<item>>, Black bronze and Madness. This object menaces with spikes of Plot.

This post had roughly 20-25 pages when I first noticed it. I thought, "No way," and ignored it. The number of pages grew, and grew, and grew, and my resolve to not read this monstrosity of a thread solidified.

Then there were the references. Nist Akath this, Nist Akath that, Ironblood this, Ironblood that, pulling up a chair and eating, gabbro cabinets... Each one ate away at my resolve, until I finally looked at the post again, now a full 71 pages.

I took the plunge.

Three days later, the only thing I can say, for I am so stunned, is:

[Insert generic praise here.]

Also: The, erm, "Clash of the Titans" was entertaining (I can't believe no one else thought of that terrible pun)  :D
