Suggestion.

More ammo piles, heavier ammo production, and better military supply logistics.

Pretty sure the king isn't linked to population as much as he's linked to fortress value. All the same, it'd be hilarious for the king to decide to live in this frozen wasteland. XD  Especially with the current Mayor teetering on the edge of his rocker.

Great stuff, this.

Our logistics aren't bad. I have ammo stockpiles near the places where catapults can be set up.

I suppose I could set up caches for bolts around the map.
If I were to do that, should the caches be subterranean, or built overland? And should they be accessible from the fortress proper?
At the moment, there is only one way in or out. I am hesitant to add more.

As far as I'm aware, population is still capped at 200?
I haven't messed with it at all.

In the near future, I'll be running the first arena match. If it's any good, I'm likely to post a video of it.
Any requests on who should be fighting?
We have a total of 6 goblins to fight against.

Please note that there's always the danger of a mortal wound.

I think Nagosh II should fight, as punishment for being late to the rescue of Exoleet. If the goblins are just thieves, pit him vs 3 of them - if they are actual soldiers just do 2.

The problem there is, as they are just thieves, he'll either just shoot them all, or be stabbed to death (since he has no other fighting skills to speak of yet).

I'd like to join too. I also have a wacky idea

Name: Dwarfaholic
Job: Siege engine operator
Gender: Preferably male

This is to effectively let it merchants and keep elks out:

....|X|....
....| |....
....|X|....
___| |____

| wall
X door
. ice (and elks)
_ more wall

The doors are operated by levers. When the caravan arrives, we open the first door, let them come, close it, and then open the second door.
Sorry if the picture isn't very clear, but I don't know how to make a better one.   :(

And another one, this time a side view:
_______||____
_____| 0____
X___________

_ wall
X door
0 tile connected by only on tile to the earth

So, when the elks come, you make a miner cut the last strand of rock and drop the rock either on them or at least to block them. Also applies for elves/goblin thieves.

I'll tell more ideas when I come up with them.

Also, could you provide us with pictures of the fort? Like one for each story, maybe even circle out the dwarves with names? Would be kinda cool to see the fort we're dying in.  :p

PS: If you ever think of attempting to capture an undead elk to pit against the goblins, I'll gladly volunteer for the group.

I'll attempt to do a screenshot set.
I'll outline what occurs from where, and the citizens of the fortress.

I'll try to do more screenies as well. The main problem so far is that this would entail a group of them to accurately portray a given update.

As for the elk gate, we currently have a three drawbridge solution. There's also a set of doors to the main courtyard.

Your idea for a giant section of crushing rock is intriguing, but with the current state of the foundations... such a trap would unfortunately punch straight through the ground into the subterranean areas.

Ouch. Well, I'll just have to think of something else.
What about this:
.......___...
_______|D|___
>______,,,___
..........|D|...
.............

D: Marksdwarf.

Obviously, you'd have to put some kind of fortification in front of them lest they shoot each other.

Or how about this:

First story:

  Retractable bridge
       goes here
..........|........
________  V   _____
________|,,,,|_____
...................
2nd:
..................
........._____....
........|g g g|...
........|g O g|...
........|g_g_g|...
..................
g goblin
0 victim falls here

you could also drop food to the goblins from time to time, or just starve them to make them more vicious. Of course, undead elks provide little food, so you could also haul the dead there. And elves. Don't forget the elves.
I just fear that this idea, too, may result in the collapsement of the fortress.

There's nothing stopping me from dropping goblins from a bridge, you see.
Smashing through ceilings will only occur if another floor drops onto it.

There's nothing stopping me from creating a deadly pit of traps. We're slowly working up our number of weapons as well, which is the only limiting factor.

We have a total of 6 goblins to fight against.

Step 1: Capture some skeletal elk.
Step 2: Place the elk and goblins in close proximity.
Step 3:
Step 4: Profit.

Here's our precious fortress.
I've cut down the images as much as I can.
The surface
Beneath the surface
Production Production Production
Beneath the Aquifer
The Arena Floor

Please note that this is really only a few levels I've taken. The rest are inconsequential as nobody was in them at the time.

why don't you just host it on the DFMA? it's real easy all you do is export an image, download the little tool thingie, then run it and upload the file it spits out. You can even add points of interest which is basically the same thing as the stuff you added to those ones.

Hm. Didn't know I could do that. The points of interest part I mean.
When I do an upload of maps again, I'll do that.
Apologies Xeno, somehow I overlooked you there.
