I love the skelk just deciding to join in the fun and I second the awesomeness of the launched skelk smashing into the fleeing goblin.

I wonder if the goblins did an "ohshi-"

EDIT: I also like how he is conducting a meeting too. Epic.

Events of the 13th of Sandstone.
"BurnedToast, you've utterly failed to fulfill my vague demand for an item in my bedroom. You've had ample time to do it, too!" said Ironblood, irritably.
"Er... yes sir." replied BurnedToast, worriedly.
"You'll be glad to know, then, that I've given up on it altogether. Consider your hide spared any punishment!"
"Yes sir!"
"Now, what's this I hear about a colossus?" asked Ironblood.
"Well, its name is Ivi. And it demands we leave."
"Of course it does. BurnedToast, does it know about the others who challenged us?"
"I advised it sir, it didn't seem to care."
"But where am I going to put this one? You can't have symmetry with three statues!" cried Ironblood.
"Perhaps a triangular room?" suggested BurnedToast.
"Triangular room?! Quite frankly that's just mad."
"You could... uh... have another room? Give it to somebody else, maybe?" suggested BurnedToast.
"Hmm... yes, somebody invaluable. Somebody who has served the fortress faithfully for years..." mused Ironblood.
BurnedToast beamed, "Why, yes sir..."
"I hope Bomrek likes Bronze. Do you think she does?" asked Ironblood.
"Uh... oh. I'm really not sure sir."
"I guess we'll see, then. I better go get her to give me a hand. These things can be tricky sometimes." said Ironblood, getting up.
"You're not sending the military?"
"It's just a colossus, BurnedToast." said Ironblood, grinning as he left.

**I should note that I have now increased the danger posed by megabeasts. They now have double their original size class, which should make them significantly harder. I've added some DAMBLOCK as well, across the board.
Edit: TRAPAVOID too. Trapping megabeasts decreases their awesome.

For the record, it's entirely possible to have a wonderfully symmetrical (rectangular, even) room with three statues.  You simply need to have an odd number of tiles, and the for the entrance have a spaced double door design.  For example:

code:

 ╔═══════╗
 ║ Ω 8 Ω ║
 ║♫     √║
 ║π ☺   Æ║
 ║π     Æ║
 ║π  Ω  Æ║
══╩══X═X══╩═══O
...............
...............
...............

No, I don't have anything better to do.

Events of the 14th of Sandstone
"I GROW TIRED OF WAITING!" thundered the Colossus, and commenced marching on the fortress.

"MERCIFUL HEAVENS!" shouted Adalore, "LOOK AT THE SIZE OF IT!"
"I thought it was the size of the others!" said Vanon. "I guess it was just standing further away!"
"It's headed for us. The Captain and the Captain of the Guard will be here soon. We're all that stands between it and the fortress!" said Adalore.

They joined in battle. Vanon shot at the monstrosity with his crossbow, which had about as much effect as a gnat.
The others charged in, striking where they could, and dodging all the blows they were able.
"It's no good!" puffed Adalore, "We're not damaging it enough to matter!"
"I think we put some scratches on it!" muttered Scorpios angrily.
"RARGH!" roared Vanon, charging in and bashing it with his crossbow.
"What did you think that was going to do?!" asked Adalore in surprise, as he dodged yet another lethal blow.
"I'm out of bolts." he said.
"That's great." mutttered Scorpios, throwing himself to the side to avoid being squashed by a foot.

"We're right with you!" came Ironblood's voice from behind them, and he joined them in battle.
"I've never seen one this big!" he shouted to the others.
"Why do they all come here?" asked Adalore.
"It must be our charming personalities." joked Bomrek, stepping to the side to avoid the Colossus' angry swipe.

The battle was fierce and interminable, with the small group of warriors attacking from all sides, confusing the monster as it struck at them. It was clearly a great fighter, but they were better.
The only problem was, it didn't wear out, and if they did not defeat it soon, they wouldn't have the strength to keep striking.

Luck was on their side, however, as the Colossus fought, its foot failed to find purchase in the slippery ice. It fell to its back, and the dwarves swarmed it.
Out of habit, they removed its eyes.
It didn't seem to care much, and kept striking at them.
Instead it roared, and forced them off it as it stood to its feet.

Angrily, it swiped at Bomrek, and she quickly dodged its blow.
Instead of striking at its body, she turned her axe against the hand that had struck at her, finding a flaw and severing it from the colossus' body.
"Looks like he could use a hand!" she said cheerily.
"Pity that." chuckled Ironblood.

It was Bomrek's blow that finished the battle, severing the monster in half. The many cracks split open and it fell in twain as a triumphant shout went up from the heroes.

They all sighed.
"I'm so damned tired!" said Vanon, collapsing to the ground.
"Take a break, you earned it." said Ironblood, nodding. He turned to Bomrek.
"Got a place in your office for a statue?" he asked.

Okay, to summarise, that Colossus, which was dealt with without any of the soldiers taking any damage at all, had the following:
Size: 40
Damblock: 100
Strength, Agility and Toughness at level 20
Wrestling at level 30!

And all this served to do was prolong the inevitable.

If it had had a weapon, things would have probably gone a bit differently.  Wrestling includes the unfortunate practice of grabbing someone's left third knuckle with your armpit.

No, because it never hit them once.

Eh, you're right.  That does make a slight difference.

Ehhmmm....  Send them out without shields?   Or have they already dropped them and are just parrying with their weapons?  Damn, no wonder megabeasts have become slightly boring, they don't stand a chance!

Is it possible to give creatures shields?  It might be interesting to equip a colossus with a sword and shield.  I do so love the colossi...

Hmm.  All the megabeast fights I've seen so far have been with a group of people.  Perhaps it's time for a titan or colossus or somesuch to challenge a dwarf to single combat?...

Didn't the captain take down a titan by himself?

Oh yeah, that's right.  I'd forgotten about that.

Well, what about one of the new guys?  Surely they can't all be that tough...

Taking a titan (normal one, not Nist Akath -boosted one) in a one-on-one combat isn't very much. Doesn't even take an elite wrestler to kill a titan in single combat in my, admittedly somewhat limited, megabeast experience.

Maybe the next dragon or hydra should breathe webbing instead of fire?
