If I manage to pull through this and live any reasonable amount of time, I'm gonna be the most battle scarred veteran ever.

With War Bears.

Snoopicus, so far you've been stabbed in the lung, had a cave dropped on you, been nearly shot by a ballista bolt twice (two cats that followed you around died to it), and have killed 3 kobolds and 2 goblin thieves.  You are a bad luck charm I think,

The arena is far from finished, but I'm loading the goblin thief, and any untame rhesus maques we have into a cage.  If Beastmaster survives that, we'll just have to wait until we get a real goblin siege.

Missed by a ballista bolt ? Twice ?? Damn, I'll have to aim better next time... erm... I mean at that distance I mistook Snoopicus for a goblin, yes, a disguised bearded goblin who was about to... erm... steal some cats *ahem* babies from our fortress.

Eh ? Waddya mean we don't have babies on the frontlines ? We are dwarves, we fight with everything we have. Be proud of it.

How do you guys catch things happening, like being missed by balista bolts? Lol. Did you zoom in on the cats dying?

Yes, actually.  I got a message about the cat dying and you were standing about 1 square away from it...both cats actually.

13th Limestone

The caravan has arrive….again, not using the road I so nicely laid out, but instead taking some dirt path to nowhere.  I swear dwarves these days…

15th Limestone

7 wagons and 5 pack animals…you’d think they would use the road with that kind of a load.

16th Limestone

These aren’t traders so much as military quartermasters demanding as much of our food and beer as we can spare.  Luckily, we’ve stolen so much from the elves that we can afford to give away a good deal of it.  I’m not about to send away military dwarves who are undersupplied because of the King’s greed.

27th Limestone

According to our accounting, we have given to these soldiers 20,000 coins worth of food and beer.  That is beyond the regular trading we’ve done, which has given us a fair amount of precious metals, gemstones, and caged livestock.  Sadly, no bear to mate with our tame one, but the elves come later, and they tend to bring such things.

Another recruit has been killed.  I’m throwing Beastmaster into the arena, whether it’s finished or not.

28th Limstone

Maggarg has become a swordwarf.

16th Sandstone

Zuntir, one of our miners, has died.  He sustained heavy internal injuries from a cave-in while making the arena.  I’m amazed he lived this long.  This has been a bad year for deaths.

1st Timber
One of our injured recruits has refused food and starved himself.  Will this cycle of death not cease.

7th timber

Reinforcements have arrived.  Here’s a short list of what we’ve received in the way of new recruits and soldiers

Female Swordsdwarf
Female Mason
Male Stonecrafter
Male Dyer
Female puppy
Male glassmaker/Woodcrafter/Leatherworker
Male Mule
Female Calf
Female Blacksmith
Female Child

Very minor reinforcements, 5 recruits, 1 useful soldier and, of course, another child.  I hope more recruits are sent soon, for I fear goblins will attack soon (and I want 80 pop for sieges, damnit).

I'm also waiting for either more wild horses/rhesus maques or another goblin thief before arena-ing Beastmaster.  The arena is being smoothed nicely in the time being.

Snoopicus is working on legendary Miner (hard because he gets winded a lot) and Flokstein is working on Champion Macedwarf, but is a bit away still.  I think he'll become a cowardly macelord soon, though.

9th Moonstone

Despite his injuries, Snoopicus has become a legendary miner, reknowned throughout the kingdom for his expertise.  He is called the “One Lung Miner” and his song is sung throughout the world.

11th Moonstone

Goblin Ambush!  And they brought crossbow goblins with them.  We will make a stand within our fortress.

One of our recruits has gone down in a hail of bolts while returning to the fortress.  We will avenge him.

12th Moonstone

Knowing that we would execute him, Beastmaster ran out to meet the goblins, and was quickly punctured though both lungs and his heart.  A waste of a soldier, but I’m glad the traitor is gone.

The goblins have fled after loosing some of their number to Beastmaster’s bolts and a pair of wardogs that blindly followed their trainer.  I’m sorry that we lost one of the dogs and the other is horribly injured.

I fear for Snoopicus, after several injuries and now loosing his lover, Beastmaster.  He seems okay, though.  I will keep an eye on him.

21st Moonstone

A guard has suffocated from injuries sustained in battle.  Yet another death for our small fortress.

26th Moonstone

A goblin snatcher!  Why don’t they just come in true force to meet us in battle?

27th Moonstone

After days of goblin snatcher appearances, Snoopicus has snapped.  He went down into the arena and strangled the one we had captured.  I’m not sure why, perhaps the loss of Beastmaster is finally getting to him.

10th Opal

We’ve captured a goblin in a cage.  The next ambush that strikes should get us a few more.  Snoopicus has volunteered to fight the first batch, as he feels the need to get revenge for Beastmaster.

In other news, the Obsidian tower is completed.

23rd Opal

One of our swordsdwarves has starved himself.  What is wrong with these recruits?

6th Obsidian

One of our siege operators is now possessed.  I wonder what he will make.

He has claimed a mechanics workshop.  Strange.

10th Obsidian

We almost lost our horse leather veil artifact to a rhesus maque.  Luckily, our traps caught the thief.

16th Granite

The elves have arrived.  I guess we can give them some goods to keep them happy, although I’d rather just sieze their goods.

21st Granite

Our siege operator has gone insane, and I worry for him.

27th Granite

Snoopicus has demanded the levers be pulled, and with the level pull, several wild animals and the goblin will be released.  I wish him luck.

3rd Slate

Though injured slightly, Snoopicus has done a fine job dispatching another goblin and a rhesus maque.  The horses managed to find their way into the hidden cage traps before confronting our great warrior.

3rd Slate

Flokstein has become renowned within our community as a hero.  Today I bestowed on her the title of Macelord.

5th Slate

I’ve decided that we should build fortifications above-ground to prepare for an eventual goblin siege.  The siege engine platform is being reworked with fortifications, as are the lower levels of the obsidian tower.

15th Slate

After sustaining neck injuries, another of our wrestlers has died of suffocation.  With Beastmaster dead, I must say this is most likely natural causes.

16th Slate

With amazing speed, Maggarg has become a swordmaster!  Truly he will be a great hero when the goblins come again.

22nd Slate

Maggarg is dead…strangled to death by his lover.  I’d consider this a sparring accident, except that I know Maggarg had lunch earlier today with Ignaz.  His lover may have felt jealous about Maggarg spending so much time with his female commander.  This murderer will be dealt with.

She has been dealt with, thrown from the top of the obsidian tower.  Her body landed on several floors, with her head outside the half-finished west wall.  A fitting end for a murderer.

3rd Felsite

Our military shrinks every day.  With recruits dying from treachery and training accidents, I wonder how long this outpost will actually last when we are sieged or attacked.  Our greatest warriors aren’t immune to injury, as Snoopicus reminds me of daily.

10th Felsite

Our western drawbridge is completed and linked up to a temporary level.   The north west and north east towers have had their foundations sketched out, and will be built soon.  At the moment, the west wall is a priority, as the goblins have tended to attack from that direction.

In other news, more migrants have arrived.

Male Fisherdwarf
Male Miner
Female Milker
Male Herbalist
Male Peasant
Female Butcher
Male Fish Dissector
Female Peasant
Female Leatherworker
Male Gem Cutter
Male Cheese Maker
Female Wood Burner
Female Metalsmith
Male Peasant
Male Woodworker
Female Bonecarver
Female Bonecarver (again)
Male Fish Cleaner

18 new recruits, which brings our population up to 62.  If these recruits live for a little while, we might even be able to get our fort up to 100 dwarves in strength.

I've never had so many dwarfs die in training at once...we have 20 filled coffins.   Now some are merchants I killed last year, but the vast majority are our dead recruits.

I just want 80 men, that's all...that way we get sieged.  We're getting close.

Oh, and sorry, Maggarg, you died, but I got revenge for you.

The way in which I died was hilarious enough to justify it.
Well, I think that qualifies me for valhalla anyway.

You got swordlord faster than I thought you would, and died violently shortly after.  I remember seeing that message and thinking WTF?

I've never had so many recruits die, and all have shields...except you, Maggarg, I thought it appropriate to have you use two swords...maybe you are the cause of all the death.

We should not have the raw recruits sparring with the experienced guys. Its gonna kill em all off. Course - the fittest/luckiest survive.
