Hahaha, i never thought of that.

Well, i've uploaded the next 2 videos to YouTube so it should finish processing them eventually. Also, i noticed in another game i was running that if you abandon the fortress without making enough of an impact, the game wont let you reclaim, so if i end up choosing to abandon the fortress (and i probably will) it will be impossible for me to restart at that site (unless i manage to find it again)

Well the human caravan showed up in year two with the wagons bypassing, of course.  Still no immigrants. I did trade with the dwarves in the fall, but no sign of anyone.  It might be that the value of my fortress is still very small and that might be keeping them away for the time.

the immigrants are also determined by the area of your fortress (inside the mountain)

Yeah, I've read that before.  But I wasn't aware that zero mined area would really impact the number of migrants...

I've still not had anyone show up despite plenty of crafts being produced, traded, etc.  Well, nobody except the Broker who came a while ago...

I'm amazed that he's been fairly happy even sleeping outside without any room of any kind.  He's been ecstatic for a long while but that's about to change soon since he wants an andesite item made.  That's a tall order without a pick.  ;)

Well, another noble and no new immigrants.  Now it's the broker and trade minister hanging around the outside world with my two Champion marksdwarves.

I have a feeling we'll never get inside this mountain...

I have tried to make 'roughing it' forts a few times, and ALWAYS get NO immigrants. I think it's cause what dwarf is gonna emigrate to a plain? Right next to a beautiful undug mountain? But I always figured I accidentally chose a 'no trade' map...

Perhaps if you crank out enough items of value, then merely a higher fortress wealth rating would suffice. But I have no idea!

Holy s**t!

It's a miracle!  SOME MIGRANTS HAVE ARRIVED!

Now I only hope some useful ones showed up!!!

It is not hopeless!!!

(As a side note, the elves had just showed up and I left my trade depot up.  I wonder if that has anything to do with it...)

I figured with the stocks of food and booze I had I would take a break from production of anything.

(over 400 prepared, 250 booze at the moment)

Farmer, Jeweler, Trapper, Peasant...Curse you Armok!!!

Looks like I'll have to wait for the next wave and hope for someone useful.

Mechanoid, I'd just like to throw out there that, in the last video, you should've been cheering for the wolves. If the axedwarf had died you would've had an axe.

The one thing to note is that again, my trade depot was constructed at the time the migrants arrived.  Although, I suppose it could just be that I finally had enough wealth.  I'd really love to get someone with a nice axe though.  I did get two marksdwarves in this batch...an axedwarf would have been real nice.

Yup, and then the depot could've been built and the game could've progressed  :D

Great effort, you definitely have DF skills.

Looking forward to see how this new fortress goes with proper supplies.

Yeah, but it was more dramatic to see the wolves as enemies.
