Treasur Chest
« on: January 24, 2008, 01:51:00 pm »

I thought up the ide to make a creature called chest that when killed drops the kind of item you want from the chest. But is there a way to make so it won't attack you? :)

Maybe give it a ridiculously high speed number?  Theres still a chance it would attack but it would be unlikely.

Well you could change the attack message to: the chest falled on you.

Or say the chest set off a trap. Another idea would be to call it a mimic, and have it attack you on purpose  :)

Make it a semi-megabeast so that its sometimes in the bottom of caves and whatnot, so you get fat loot for questing.

Couldn't you just give it a custom body type with no movement capabilities and then not give it any attacks?

Is it possible to give a creature multiple corpse items?

You'd need an unusual body type, though.  Maybe give it a "lock" bodypart that could be a weakspot?

This might work, provided you don't give it any windpipes.  That would be interesting.

*Derom Darbulkorm, chest, has bled to death.

Oh yeah, hadn't thought of that...  The semi-megabeast tag might mean they'd get names.  Can you imagine a chest introducing itself to you?  Or a chest that's been terrorizing the local village, causing the mayor to ask you to defeat it in combat?

This is just getting better and better.

I've made a shard golem that can only be defeated by shattering its chest shard. Not even severing the head, legs, lower body, and any one arm can render this golem absolutely incapable of fighting. A shard elemental I've made is dangerous regardless of its state, because it can fly, and its chest shard is "home" to many sharp spikes.

The chest can be made to have its upper body be the base of the chest, the lower body will be the lid. The head can be the lock. The reason is that the upper body gives the "it is shattered" message, while the lower body still "flies off in an arc".

And DF hardly has a way to make something as dangerous as a mimic.  :)

That sounds like it would work.  Though if you give a creature no attacks whatsoever they are still capable of doing a 'push' attack(watch a kobold get swarmed by antmen it will probably end up doing it eventually) and even without legs any creature can crawl along the ground at half speed. (EDIT: Maybe give it sessile_land? Or whatever that tag is called, fish should have it. It is supposed to prevent land movement.)

I vote a speed of somewhere around 50000 with a poison needle trap that has a giant cave spider venom tip.  That way, it rarely moves(earthquake!) and if it gets a move while the player is near it makes logical sense.  You could also give it fire breath or webbing to simulate magical traps.
