Will water draining into demon pits drain off the map?
« on: May 18, 2008, 11:14:00 pm »

Looking for an option for drainage for a waterworks project on a map with no chasm.  I do not want to drain off the edge of the map though.

Short answer - yes. Other options you might look into - sometimes cave-ins bug out and crash through the bottom of the map creating a chasm, evaporation.

Also, if you can somehow get a Spirit of Fire to stand still and not slaughter your entire civilization, you can pour all your water onto him and he'll turn it into steam.

Sweet but it will also drain off if I dump into a demon pit though too right?

Speaking of Spirits of Fire, it is important to remember that they can fly, which can make containment tricky. I think the best method is to use fortifications.

Hmm... how about a pit with a bauxite grate on top?

Then nothing can contain them.
Well, nothing that water can get through, at any rate.
You could wall them in, but then you'd have no way of piping in water.
No way that they couldn't destroy, at any rate.

Maybe a wall of 3 tile wide 7/7 water being fed from an river/brook/aquifer... Flush the pits!

See my earlier point about fortifications, what with them being indestructible while at the same time allowing liquids to pass through.

But will the flow through vertically? I know they do horizontally...

Fortifications don't make a floor, so one would assume they would allow fluids through.
