Why can whips not be used by dwarves? Is it only because they don't have the whip skill? And if so if I moded it for say unarmed skill would they be able to equipt them? And if so how could I go about adding whips to my leatherworker shop?

I'm just looking to expand my uses for leather past a ton of bags.

Well, you can just try adding the [WEAPON:ITEM_WEAPON_WHIP] tag for the dwarves at entity_default.txt, and you will be able to craft they and bring they as starting goods. BUT, there is the problem, you can't assign a dwarf as a "Lasher" on the military screen.... A sad hardcoded limitation.

maybe being short has difficulties with regards to long weapons?  Personally, I see this as a reasonable restriction.  If everybody can wield every type of weapon, it may just result in a bland sameness.

Could you imagine taking 10 lashs from a hammer instead of a whip? I guess that is why most punishments handed out end up killing the dwarf instead of teaching him a lesson. Has anyone ever seen a baby or child punished by a noble with a hammer?
