Wikipedia says the meme started in 2005.  Y'know, I was annoyed with Chuck before I found out how much of a holy roller he is.  I had no idea, but here's a quote pulled from from the Wikipedia page regarding a statement he made in response to a particular "Chuck Norris fact".  You know, the "There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of creatures Chuck Norris has allowed to live" one?

Yes, it is leet.  Otherwise known as 1337, L337, and \_ -) -) -|-.

It's often a good idea to learn the language of one's enemy...  Plus, it trains pattern recognition skills.
